Chapter 14
Lioren thought. Take care ofine? Like a pet? Does this female even hear herself?

He forced himself to draw on a thread of psychic power, but his severe injuries and drained energy made the attempt fall apart before it could take shape.
All he managed was lower, broken sounds from his throat, which came out more like a weak whimper than a warning.
However, Dora took it as permission and instantly lit up.
Growing bolder, she reached out and tried to pick him up. “Good kitty. From now on, you’re my cat.
“Don’t worry. I’m broke right now, but I’ll work hard, earn starcoins, and buy you more nutritious food.”
Dora was thrilled and kept talking to herself, “Oh, gotta give you a name. You look so fierce. How about Fuzzball? Or Titan?”
Lioren was left stunned by those names.
His whole body went stiff. The moment she picked him up, whatever strength he had left to struggle seemed to vanish under the weight of pure disbelief and exhaustion.
Then he felt the warmth of Dora’s arms around him. Her scent drifted close, carrying a faint trace of dust and something else, something soft, sweet, and strangely comforting. Lioren closed his eyes in exhaustion.
He sighed inwardly, ‘Fine. Let me rest for a bit. This female doesn’t seem dangerous. She might provide a temporary hiding place, at least long enough for me to recover.
‘As for those stupid names, I’ll settle that with her once I have some strength back.
Dora was happily holding her new pet and was about to continue her gathering task when the kitten in her arms suddenly struggled to lift its head.
Using the last bit of crystal energy he had, he forced out the words. “I’m beastfolk, not a pet.”
Dora stopped dead. The smile on her face froze.
She lowered her head and looked into the amber eyes that had opened again, which were cold and serious.
Even the air around them went silent.

Then Dora blinked. She didn’t panic and let go of the kitten, but she actually held the kitten a little tighter. Her expression showed that she was kinda happy to learn that.
With a small but very clear voice, and a hint of shameless excitement, she replied, “Oh? You’re beastfolk? That’s good.”
She weighed the light kitten in her arms. He barely weighed anything, yet his glare was fierce enough to kill. With an evil smile, Dora said, “I happen to need a beast mate.”
Lioren’s amber eyes went round in an instant, filled with disbelief.
He thought. ‘What the hell? Is there something wrong with her?
At the edge of the training zone, the wind swept up dust and brushed past the strange pair: one looked like she had found
while the other looked like he had seen a ghost.

Holding her beastmate, Dora turned around and continued toward her energy rock fragments with clear purpose. Even her steps felt lighter.
Now that she had this little cat as her beast mate, she wouldn’t have to worry about Clive refusing her marriage match request. Her homestead would be safe.
Lioren, who was forced to stay curled in her arms, thought firmly. ‘Once I regain my human form, the first thing I will do is make this bold, bizarre female fully understand the consequences of forcing a deal on me!
Being picked up and forced to be a beast mate? This was the greatest humiliation of his proud life.
Lioren struggled hard, making it clear that he wanted to walk on his own.
“Nope. Your leg is hurt,” Dora answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
She even adjusted the way she held him, letting him settle more comfortably in the crook of her arm while keeping pressure off his injured hind leg.
Her fingers accidentally brushed over the matted fur at the back of his neck. The touch wasn’t exactly gentle, but it felt unbelievably good.
After all, no fluffy creature could resist being petted.
Dora kept muttering, “Besides, the ground here is uneven. You’re too tiny. You might fall.”
Lioren thought, “Too tiny?!”
He was ready to bristle, but Dora’s hand moved over his fur again, and instead of flaring up, he almost wanted to narrow his eyes and enjoy it.
He swore to himself, ‘Once I return to my true form, I’ll show her exactly how big I am!
He struggled a little, only to receive a lightly scolding par from Dora. She warned, “Stop moving. You’ll hurt your wound.”
Her tone sounded like she was lecturing a disobedient cub,
Lioren froze. He really was at the end of his strength. Maintaining this lowest–energy kitten form was already difficult, and the injury to his hind leg was truly affecting his movement.
Struggling would only make him look more ridiculous.
Defeated, he closed his eyes and buried his head in his front paws, choosing not to look at any of this.
And yet, the faint rose scent coming from Dora kept slipping past all his defenses.
Somehow, that scent had a strange calming effect on his exhausted mind and badly injured body.
Lioren’s ears pricked up warily. His nose twitched as he tried to figure out where the scent was coming from, but all that did was make him even more aware of how completely it surrounded him.
He had to admit that being in her arms felt much better than curling up alone on a cold metal plate.
He thought, I just need temporary cover. This female doesn’t seem scheming. As long as I don’t agree, she can’t force a match. Once I recover…
