Chapter 148
Chapter 148
Elmer almost pounced on Dora, but was stopped by a single look from Clive. Elmer sat down across from her looking a bit embarrassed.
But his ears were twitching even more than before.
Dora smiled and ruffled his hair, then took the opportunity to give Elmer’s round, chubby beast ears a good fub, something she’d been wanting to do for a long time. “You’re already amazing.”
Finally, it was Rafe’s turn.
As he walked downstairs, the living room chilled noticeably.
The pressure he radiated was even stronger and purer than before, and in a flash, six fox tails appeared behind him, making him look downright intimidating.
Everyone in the living room stared in disbelief at the scene.
Rafe adjusted his gold–rimmed glasses, a cold blue gleam flickering in his eyes before he slipped back into his usual gentle demeanor.
He retracted his six tails, approached Dora, and removed his glasses, his blue eyes softening with affection.
“Dory,” he said softly, “I’ve not only reached the Pinnacle Level 7, but I’ve also broken through my bloodline limit. My beast form has evolved into a six–tailed spirit fox.”
Dora blinked in surprise. “You leveled up twice? And broke through your bloodline, sprouting three more tails?”
She gazed at him, an overwhelming sense of pride rising in her heart.
“A six–tailed spirit fox,” she said with a smile, nodding.
“Alright, alright, everyone’s leveled up. Let’s celebrate tonight!”
Seven immediately chimed in, “I’ll get dinner ready!
“How about a fondue?”
“Yes!” Elmer was the first to raise his hand.
Lioren gave his tail a gentle swish to show his agreement.
Clive nodded.
Rafe smiled.
Dora glanced around at the four beast mates in the living room, each with their own distinct vibe, but all equally strong, and felt an odd but genuine sense of contentment rise up inside her.
Before long, steam from the fondue filled the living room, and the savory aroma made the whole place feel warm and cozy.
Elmer, his white beast ears perked up, was eagerly cooking meat for Dora. He even blew on it to cool it down before gently placing it in her bowl.
“Dora,” Elmer said, “I cooked this meat just right, so it’s extra tender!”
Almost at the same time, Lioren used his fork to place a carefully chosen slice of fish into Dora’s plate.
Chapter 148
His cat ears twitched, and his amber eyes practically said, “Back off if you know what’s good for you”
Elmer glared at him.
Liøren glared right back.
Clive, with a straight face, fished a meatball and set it on the small plate next to Dora.
His movements were easy and unhurried, like it was just something he did without thinking.
But that meatball was Dora’s favorite, and he’d been carefully watching it for ages to make sure it was cooked just right.
Rafe pushed up his gold–rimmed glasses, then with a touch of elegance, ladled out a bowl of mushroom soup and placed in gently by Dora’s right hand. “The broth’s perfect, nice and warm for your stomach.”
Dora looked at her bowl, now overflowing with food, then glanced at her four beast mates, each with their own expression. and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Seriously, you guys…” Dora started.
But before she could finish, the door swung open.
A blast of cold wind carrying the scent of rain rushed in, only to be stopped by the room’s temperature control system.
Lucian stood at the doorway, his military uniform crisp and immaculate. His golden hair shimmered softly under the light. and his pale gold eyes swept over the living room, his gaze sharpening just a bit as he took in the scene.
“I’m back,” he said.
His voice was as steady as ever, but his gaze lingered on Clive for just a second longer than usual.
Then he glanced at Lioren, Elmer, and Rafe.
“You all leveled up!” he remarked.
It wasn’t a question, and it was just stating the obvious.
“Lucian, you’re back?” Dora set down her fork, looking a little surprised. “Did you finish your business with the military?”
Lucian walked in, and with Seven’s help, put away his umbrella and coat before sitting down at the table.
He took the seat to Dora’s right, directly opposite Clive on her left.
Dora immediately set down her fork, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him. “Come join us for fondue!”
Seven had already quickly set out a plate and fork for him.
Lucian looked relaxed and composed as always, as if that quick scan of the room was just routine.
Suddenly, Dora seemed to remember something and looked at him with curiosity. “Hey, Commander, what level is your supernatural ability, anyway?
“I’ve never heard you mention it before.”
Lucian glanced at her, a hint of a smile in his pale gold eyes.
“Level 8, with both fire–type and light–type supernatural abilities,” he replied.
The living room went quiet for a moment.

Chapter 148
Elmer’s jaw dropped, then snapped shut, leaving him mouthing a silent “Wow”
Lioren’s cat ears instinctively flattened back, a clear sign he felt threatened.
Clive’s grip on his fork tightened.
Rafe paused, halfway through adjusting his glasses, something unreadable flickering in his blue eyes.
Level 8.
On the Core Planet, there were barely twenty Level 8 supernatural ability users out in the open.
Every one of them was a big shot in the military or government.
And Lucian was more than just Level 8, he had both fire–type and light–type supernatural abilities.
That meant his combat strength was a whole league above any single–type user at the same level.
Clive’s eyes grew even more somber.
He’d just reached the Pinnacle Level 6, and for a moment, he’d thought he was finally catching up to Lucian.
10 voucher?
But now he realized that between the Pinnacle Level 6 and Level 8, there were two whole major ranks and countless chasms that seemed impossible to cross.
What really made Clive feel the pressure was…
Lucian was Dora’s childhood fiancé, and ever since their engagement was arranged when they were kids. he’d been sending Dora starcoins every year without fail.
Lucian was a military commander, outranking Clive by a mile in both status and position.
And with his Level 8 fire–type and light–type supernatural abilities, Lucian was miles ahead of him in raw power…
Even though Rafe’s supernatural ability level was high, it didn’t really stress Clive out.
Because Rafe was still on probation.
Clive dropped his gaze, concealing the turmoil swirling deep in his eyes.
Dora didn’t catch his reaction, she just stared in shock, her mouth hanging open. “Level 8?! Dual–type supernatural ability?”
“Yes,” Lucian replied, his answer crisp and direct.
Dora didn’t know what to say.
She cleared her throat and switched topics. “So, why are you suddenly back? Didn’t you say you still had stuff to handle at the military?”
Lucian took out an exquisite invitation from inside his jacket and placed it on the table.
The cover was gold–embossed, bearing the Shawn family crest, with a line of graceful handwriting: [Commander Lucian Golding, you are sincerely invited to attend the Shawn family’s Blue Jewel Banquet, accompanied by your family.]
Dora raised an eyebrow, then took out the invitation Rafe had received and set them side by side to compare.
The two invitations were identical in format and wording, even the phrase “accompanied by family” was exactly the same.
“Rafe got one, and so did you,” Dora said, thinking aloud,

Chapter 148
“Is the Shawn family targeting my beast mates on purpose?”
Elmer leaned in for a peek, pouting and looking a bit down. “But Dora, I didn’t get an invitation.”
Dora saw Elmer’s head come closer and gave his hair a reassuring ruffle.
She pretended to be casual and snuck in a quick rub of his beast ears while she was at it.
“They did it on purpose. You blocked them, so even if they tried, it wouldn’t get to you,” Dora said.
TO vouchers
Dora leaned back in her chair, enjoying the lingering sensation on her hand, her lips curving into a mischievous smile.
She said, “Sending invitations to my beast mates and telling them to bring their families? That’s basically their way of saying, ‘I know you’re all family, but I’m deliberately not inviting you, so what are you gonna do about it?“”
