Lioren narrowed his eyes, his gaze sharp. “The Shawn family is testing us.”

“Yeah,” Rafe nodded. “They’re watching how we react, and what kind of relationship we have.”

She lowered her voice and leaned in close to Dora. “The agave plants turned out to be ten times more effective than I thought.

“That stuff is a real treasure. Once you put it on your clothes, those mutant bugs won’t even dare come near you.

“Now you can go out during the wet season without a worry.”

Mindy patted Dora’s hand, her eyes sweeping over the five men’s combat suits as she gave a playful wink. “Since your whole family’s here, go ahead and try them on. If anything doesn’t fit, I’ll fix it right away.”

Dora felt grateful.

She knew Mindy had put a lot of thought into it this time.

“Hey Mindy,” Dora suddenly piped up, “The Shawn family is hosting a party. Wanna come?”

Mindy blinked, a bit caught off guard. “The Shawn family? You mean Cassian’s folks?”

“Yep,” Dora nodded. “They’re inviting all kinds of big names to celebrate Cassian scoring a rare mutated blueberry tree.”

Mindy blinked again. “Wait… am I allowed to go?”

Dora grinned. “Of course you can! You’re my friend.”

“And hey,” she added, picking up the combat suit Mindy had just made, her smile lighting up the room, “put on your new suit, you’ll look gorgeous and badass. Let’s show them what real style is.”

Mindy’s eyes sparkled.

“Deal!” she said, slapping her thigh. “I’m in!

“If the Shawn family tries any tricks to mess with you at that party, I’ll be the first to step in!”

Dora felt a warm rush in her chest and hugged Mindy’s arm, acting all cute. “Mindy, you’re the best!”

Dora’s eyes gleamed with mischief as she sidled up to Mindy, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Guess what? My third brother, Felix will be there too.”

Mindy’s cheeks flushed bright red in an instant.

Nearby, Elmer’s puppy ears perked up at the mention of “Felix,” and his puppy–dog eyes sparkled with excitement.

“Mindy, Felix is going too! You guys get to see each other again!” he blurted out, practically bouncing in his seat

Lioren flicked his tail, a rare, genuinely amused look flashing across his face.

Rafe adjusted his gold–rimmed glasses, a faint smile playing at his lips.

Clive stayed expressionless as always, but the darkness in his eyes seemed to fade just a bit.

With Mindy around, Dora wouldn’t be so focused on Lucian anymore.

Lucian, meanwhile, looked as calm as ever, like none of this had anything to do with him.

Mindy hesitated for a few seconds, but finally gave in to those sparkling eyes of Dora’s.

“These are our combat suits for the Shawn family’s party, let’s make their jaws drop when we walk in.”

At her words, the five beast mates grabbed their suits and went upstairs to try them on.
