Chapter 179 What A Fool
The other side’s price changed too: 7 million starcoins.
:
Cassian nearly ground his teeth to dust. “Drop it again! 6.8 million starcoins!”
The other side: 6.5 million starcoins.
Cassian: 6.3 million starcoins.
The other side: 6 million starcoins.
Cassian was speechless.

He glared at the numbers flashing on the Interstella Net, wishing he could smash his Optical Brain to pieces.
“They’re ganging up on us!” he roared. “They’re doing this on purpose!”
Regina’s face was ashen, her fingers trembling slightly.
Regina rasped, her voice barely holding together. “Lower it… take it down to 5 million… 4 million… 3 million. starcoins…”
Every time they dropped the price, the other side instantly matched it, then went just a bit lower.
On the Interstella Net, buyers who’d been itching to snatch up the goods quickly caught on to the game.
No matter what price the Shawn family listed, nobody was buying. Everyone knew something even cheaper was about to show up.
Everyone was just waiting.
Waiting for the price to drop even more.
In the end, the Shawn family’s medicine had dropped to 50,000 starcoins per dose.
50,000 starcoins per dose.
Fifty doses, totaling 2.5 million starcoins.
The price was really ironic.
After the price was posted, Cassian slumped into his chair, staring at the screen, waiting for the other side to make their move.
Will they go for 49,000? 45,000? Maybe even 40,000?’ Cassian wondered.
The other side updated their price.
They matched it. 50,000 starcoins too.

Cassian froze.
:
Cassian waited, but the other side didn’t drop their price any further.
50,000 starcoins.
The price stuck at 50,000 starcoins.
Cassian slumped into his chair, completely drained, like a shell of himself.
“It’s over… it’s all over…” he said in a hollow voice.

In Dora’s living room, everyone was gathered around, eyes fixed on the Optical Brain screen.
“It’s at 50,000,” Rafe said, nudging his gold-rimmed glasses up, a hint of amusement in his blue eyes.
Dora nodded and made a quick adjustment on her Optical Brain.
“Let’s set ours at 50,000 starcoins too,” she said.
Elmer had been watching for a while, and finally couldn’t hold back his question.
“Dora, I don’t get it,” he said.
Dora glanced over at him.
“Why didn’t you just start at 50,000 starcoins from the beginning?” Elmer scratched his head. “Wouldn’t that have been faster?
“You could’ve slashed the Shawn family’s price right away.”
Dora and Rafe exchanged a glance and both laughed.
Dora shook her head with a smile. “You fool, if we’d started at 50,000 starcoins…
“They might’ve just bought up all our medicine.
“Other families with cash would’ve jumped in too, all trying to snatch it up.
“Then they’d team up and jack up the price.”
Elmer blinked, still not really getting it.
Rafe nudged his gold-rimmed glasses and patiently explained, “If we’d started out cheap, the Shawn family could’ve joined forces with other big players.
“They’d pool their money, buy up all our medicine, and corner the market, just waiting for prices to soar.
“The wet season’s nowhere near over, and with the agave plant shortage, people would start panic buying.

“Once only their medicine was left out there, they’d push prices sky-high.”

“Exactly,” Dora chimed in. “We have to drive their prices down step by step, making it look like there’s plenty of supply out there.
“That way, no one will panic and start hoarding, and it’ll shake the confidence of those families looking to speculate.”
Elmer finally got it. “Oh…
“So you guys are purposely playing a price war with them, just to break the speculators’ confidence!
“You’re making them drop their prices, step by step?”
“Exactly,” Dora nodded. “Don’t forget, it’s not just Cassian who’s got stock.
“Rafe’s uncle, Robert, has some too.
“If we don’t crush their confidence, they’ll just team up and drive prices through the roof.
“We have to force them to keep dropping their prices from the very start, so the speculators see no hope at all.”
She paused, then continued, “After all this, everyone knows there’s plenty of agave medicine on the market.
“No one’s going to rush to buy, no one’s going to panic, and nobody’s going to try and profiteer during a crisis.
“For those who really need it, 50,000 starcoins a dose is something they can afford.”
Elmer looked at her like she was a legend.
He said, “Dora, you’re awesome…
“Yeah, every time there’s a disaster season, someone always turns the medicine into gold, skyrocketing the price so regular folks in the interstellar can barely get by.”
Lioren curled his tail, giving a rare compliment. “Impressive, you’re finally picking things up and making connections.”
Elmer shot him a glare.
Dora leaned back on the sofa, grinning brightly.
She said, “Did the Shawn family really think they could turn things around with the agave plants they got from me?
“We’re just riding their coattails to crack open the agave medicine market, honestly, we owe them a thank you!”
She picked up her coffee cup and took a gentle sip.

The frenzy over medicine speculation had finally died down, at least for the time being.
But the price the Shawn family paid was astronomical.
Compensation, medical bills, settlement payments for all the families…
42.5 million starcoins vanished in no time.

And with all the cash Cassian blew on agave plants, the Shawn family’s savings from generations were almost wiped out.
Regina sat in the study, staring at the staggering number in the ledger, her face pale as death.
“It’s over…” she murmured. “The Shawn family… we’re nothing now. Just an empty shell…”
Kael stood by the window, his back to her, and spoke in a low voice. “Regina, this isn’t the time to fall apart.
“We need to figure out how to fix this mess.”
Regina looked up at him. “How are we supposed to fix it?”
Kael turned around, a ruthless glint in his eyes. “The crystal ore.”
Cassian froze. “Dad, that batch of ore…”
“Liquidate it,” Kael said in a low, commanding voice. “Do it as soon as possible.
“If we can turn the starcoin tied up in that ore into cash, the Shawn family can get back on its feet.”
Regina frowned. “But with everyone watching us so closely right now…”
“Doesn’t matter anymore,” Kael said, stepping up to the desk and lowering his voice.
