Surrounded by Five Beast Lords

Chapter 182 Rising To The Elite Family

The leader of the black-clad men cast his gaze downward at Cassian, and his eyes finally showed a hint of emotion.

“You’ve got some backbone,” he said.

He raised his hand, and shadow energy coalesced into a chain that shot toward Cassian like lightning.

Cassian tried to dodge, but the earlier attack had drained most of his supernatural ability, and his reflexes were shot.

The shadow chain snapped around his neck in an instant, hoisting him off the ground.

“Ngh!” Cassian gripped the chain around his neck with both hands, his legs kicking frantically in the air, his face turning bright red.

The leader of the black-clad men stepped forward, tilting his head up to look at Cassian.

Those eyes were still icy.

“You really think the military’s going to rescue you?” he asked.

Cassian’s eyes widened.

“They’re not coming,” the leader said, his voice eerily calm.

“Those guys had a little incident on the way.”

The last glimmer of hope in Cassian’s eyes faded away.

The leader of the black-clad men let the chain slip loose.

Cassian crashed hard to the ground, hacking and coughing.

He sprawled there, shaking uncontrollably, his face a mess of tears and mud.

The leader of the black-clad men looked down at him, pausing for three seconds.

“Not just these crystal ore,” he said, his voice still cold and detached. “I’m claiming this batch of crystal cores too.”

He turned around and with a wave of his hand,

The wall of fire was instantly obliterated by a surge of even stronger shadow energy, bursting into sparks that faded into the air.

The black-clad men kept hauling boxes, and before long, every last one was loaded up onto their vehicles.

Cassian lay sprawled on the ground, powerless as he watched the boxes of crystal ore vanish one by one, there was nothing he could do.

His lips quivered. He wanted to scream, to curse, to beg them to leave anything behind…

Even just one box, just one, please.

But no sound came out.

The leader of the black-clad men gave him one last look, then turned and vanished into the night.

All the black-clad men followed him, disappearing into the darkness.

Just like when they came, they left without a sound,

Cassian slumped to the ground, his whole body trembling.

He looked at the empty warehouse.

The crystal ore was gone.

The Shawn family’s last hope was gone.

Tyler walked over, his face ashen, his lips trembling as if he wanted to say something, but nothing came out.

The scar-faced man was helped to his feet, clutching his arm that wouldn’t stop bleeding, his face twisted into a terrifying grimace.

He glanced at the direction where the black-clad men had disappeared, then looked at Cassian, and suddenly broke into laugh.

That grin was pure, unhinged malice.

“Mr. Shawn,” he rasped, his voice rough as sandpaper, “the goods are gone, the crystal cores are gone. So, what are you going to do about this debt?”

Cassian didn’t answer.

He just sat there, staring blankly at the empty warehouse, his eyes hollow and lifeless.

Cassian had no idea how he made it back to the Shawn residence.

All he knew was that when he walked into the study and saw the hopeful look in his mother’s eyes, he couldn’t get a single word out.

“How did it go?” Regina asked urgently. “Was the deal successful?”

Cassian opened his mouth.

“The goods…

“We got robbed.”

Regina’s smile froze on her face.

“What?”

“We were ambushed,” Cassian rasped, his voice rough as sandpaper. “A group of men in black surrounded us and took everything, the goods and the crystal cores we got from the other side”

Regina’s eyes went wide, her lips quivering, but she couldn’t get a single word out.

Kael stood nearby, his face dark with anger.

“Did you see who they were?” he asked.

Cassian shook his head.

“They all wore masks, didn’t say a word, and moved like they’d done this a thousand times…. looked like a mercenary crew.

Cassian said.

Kacl fell silent.

Mercenary crew.

Those crews only cared about the money, didn’t matter who hired them. Once they got paid, they vanished without a trace.

One couldn’t even chase them if one wanted to; there was nowhere to start.

Regina coughed up blood, the shock hitting her so hard she couldn’t hold it in.

“Regina!” Kael rushed over to catch her, but she collapsed, eyes closed, her face deathly pale.

Cassian stood nearby, trembling all over, he couldn’t tell if it was from anger or fear himself.

By the time Clive got home, the night was already deep.

He slipped quietly into the courtyard, and when he noticed the living room lights still on, the tension in him melted away

He pushed the door open, everyone was waiting for him in the living room.

Dora was in a loose set of pajamas, her hair a little messy, clearly she’d been waiting up for him.

As soon as he walked in, she jumped up from the couch and gave him a quick once-over, checking for any injuries. Only when she saw he was unharmed did she finally let out a breath of relief.

Dora looked up at him, her eyes sparkling. “Did it work?”.

Clive nodded, his eyes lingering on her face for a moment. A faint, sharp smile tugged at his lips, and a rare warmth flickered in his chest.

“Yeah, it worked,” he said.

Elmer cheered, “That’s great!”

Lioren curled his tail, a smile in his amber eyes. “The Shawn family is completely done for now.”

Rafe adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, his blue eyes flashing. “What about the ore?”

“They’ve already been moved to a safe location,” Clive said, glancing at Dora. “Once things calm down, we’ll ship them to our weapons base.”

“And there were a few unexpected bonuses.” Clive added, then slipped his arm around Dora’s shoulders and led her out into the courtyard.

LABE

As soon as they stepped outside, Dora spotted five boxes.

Elmer hopped over to the boxes, his eyes wide with curiosity. “What’s in these?”

Before he could even finish his question, his hands were already reaching for the lid.
