Surrounded by Five Beast Lords novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4 Their Encounter

In the interstellar world, social class was decided by supernatural ability level. Most males who survived in the black market were bottomrung fighters with lowlevel abilities and no background. Most of them were only level 1 or level 2.

Once a male’s supernatural ability passed level 4, he’d either become a leader or find himself a decent job. They wouldn’t keep crawling around in the black market.

So no matter how many enemies there were, in front of Clive, who was already a level- 4 supernatural ability user, they were nothing but a mob.

But Aurora Syndicate had clearly come prepared. There were far too many level4 ability users among them, who shouldn’t have been there at all.

To break through by force and unleash his killing move, Clive pushed the crystal energy in his body too far. It was almost drained dry.

As his mind blurred, he detonated several highpowered energy bombs he carried with him. Using the chaos and smoke as cover, he dragged his weak body out and escaped.

Instinct drove him toward the crowded downtown area, where it would be easier to hide.

When the last bit of crystal energy in his body ran out, and with his injuries weighing him down, Clive could no longer keep his human form. He reverted to the most basic form that used the least energya small black snake, only about 12 inches long.

With the last of his strength, he slipped into a thick patch of alien plants that gave off a faint numbing scent. He curled up inside, disguising himself as a dead vine.

Pain, weakness, and numbness of crystal energy depletion swallowed him whole. Before darkness took him completely, he thought, Looks like I’ll die here. That same year, 18yearold Dora was going through what she believed was the darkest stage of her life.

That day, she’d gotten mad because her mother had taken the side of Iris, who had just been brought home. Out of spite, Dora ran out alone and wandered around with no real destination. In a green belt, she found a dying black snake.

The snake was completely black. Its scales were dull, and some were even torn and curled back, exposing the tender pink flesh underneath.

It lay there without moving, looking badly injured. Dora couldn’t even tell if it was dead.

She had always been bold. Naturally, she wasn’t afraid of snakes like most females. Not only was she not scared, but she actually liked them quite a bit.

She crouched down and carefully poked it with a twig.

The snake curled up with the faintest movement.

The gloom in Dora’s heart vanished at once when she saw the snake was alive.

Looking at the snake, she felt a strange, twisted thrill rising in her chest. An evil smile appeared on her pretty face as she thought, Perfect. I’ll take it home and keep it at home. When it gets better, I have it bite Iris.’

She tore a small, fairly clean piece of lining from the hem of her dress, carefully wrapped the snake inside, and brought it home.

She hid the snake in her room and secretly fed it the highestgrade nutrient drink every day.

With the pocket money she’d saved, she bought psychic restoration fluid made from alien beast crystal cores, something said to work even on beastfolk cubs, and gave it to the snake, hoping it would heal faster.

At night, afraid it would get cold, she even tucked it into her blanket and slept with it. As the snake’s injuries slowly healed, she began carrying it around almost every day. Sometimes, it curled around her wrist, staying with her wherever she went.

For the first time in Clive’s life, he felt warmth, care, and attention from someone else, and the feeling of being needed. He wanted so badly to sink into that warm love forever.

Dora carried a faint rose fragrance, which soothed him in a way nothing ever had, making both his body and mind feel at peace.

Clive was greedy for that feeling, even if Dora’s motives probably weren’t pure. She treated him like a pet and often talked to him about things she kept buried in her heart. She said she was a defective female without the Spatial Realm Ability. Inside her realm was nothing but poor, sandy soil where nothing could grow.

In the interstellar world, once males married, they relied on femalesSpatial Realm to gain crystal energy. A useless female like her probably wouldn’t be wanted by any male. But Clive didn’t care. He’d lived until now without any female taking care of him.

He didn’t care a bit that she was a defective female. He was willing to protect her for the rest of his life.

Worried that Cassian would cancel their engagement, Dora always thought about how to please him.

Whenever Clive heard that, he got mad for no reason. He wanted nothing more than to bite Cassian to death.

Dora also often said that once he healed, she wanted him to bite Iris and get revenge. She often said something vicious, but the warmth she gave him was real, and so were

those precious drinks and the safe feeling of being held in her arms every night. Those were things he’d never experienced before.

He greedily soaked up that warmth. With the expensive drinks and her gentle energy feeding him day after day, his wounds soon healed.

Clive swore to himself that when he recovered, he’d repay Dora.

If Cassian didn’t want her, then he would. He would give everything he had to keep her safe and happy for the rest of her life.

Even if she was a defective female, he would work hard and give her all the status and honor that every female wanted.

Under Dora’s careful care, Clive’s injuries gradually improved. Then, one night, after Dora had fallen asleep, the snake slid down from beside her pillow.

After days of being nourished by the crystalenergyrich psychic restoration fluid, something inside him finally broke through a critical point.

In the dark room, the snake vanished. In its place lay a tall, lean young man with smooth muscle lines and a body that still looked a little thin.

His hair was messy, and his eyes were clear and bright in the shadows. He lay quietly beside Dora.

Watching Dora’s peaceful sleeping face under the moonlight, his heart pounded wildly in his chest.

The gloom and violence built up from years of fighting melted away in front of her, turning into careful devotion and one desperate hope.

He couldn’t help lowering his head and gently kissing Dora’s forehead. The small movement woke her up.

Dora slowly opened her eyes. What appeared before her was a young man even more handsome than Cassian.
