Her previous attempt to enter Damian’s room had left Jaxson furious beyond words.
Since Eric and Camellia couldn’t control her, and Jonathan’s warnings hadn’t stuck, Jaxson felt he had no choice but to return from his quiet retirement to address this family disgrace.
“Dad. Sophia wouldn’t lie about something like this–there must be some misunderstanding…” Eric spoke up, his heart aching for his daughter.
“Would you like to take her place, then?” Jaxson shot him a piercing glare.
Eric quickly lowered his gaze and didn’t dare say another word.
“The investigation is already clear. The fire at the studio was caused by Kayla deliberately using a damaged power bank that short–circuited. She also received a payment from you two weeks ago–the bank record is right here. Kayla named you as well. With both a witness and physical evidence, what more is there to dispute?”
Jaxson was so incensed that he swept a cup off the side table, sending it shattering at Sophia’s feet. Fragments scattered across the floor, nicking the skin on her arms.
She didn’t dare make a sound.
Eric moved to intervene, but Camellia gently held him back.
If no one reined Sophia in now, even if she married someday, her future wouldn’t be secure.
“Two weeks ago, I lent her three thousand dollars. Kayla is a neighbor from back home–she was always kind to me growing up. When she asked to borrow money, I couldn’t just turn her down,” Sophia defended herself, her voice trembling.
“But I never told her to do anything like that. Abigail has always been good to me–why would I want to hurt her?”
Sophia shuffled forward slightly, trying to appeal to Jaxson’s sympathy. “Besides, I was out of the country two weeks ago. There’s so much I didn’t even know was happening…”
“Even if Abigail doesn’t blame you, do you think Christian will let this go?” Jaxson felt a deep sense of shame over his granddaughter’s actions.
He continued, “He spent most of his life searching for his daughter. Before this, you caused trouble over the inheritance shares. Now something like this happens–do you think Christian is someone to be trifled with? The fact that he hasn’t confronted you directly yet is a gesture of
restraint.”

Jonathan let out a cold, dismissive sound. “If anything had happened to Abigail, even if no one else acted, I would have dealt with you myself first.”
Sophia raised her eyes slightly, her neck stiff and aching from holding the strained posture.
Now she was trapped–the more she tried to explain, the guiltier she appeared.
She admitted she had acted selfishly before, but she would never own up to something she didn’t do!
Jonathan’s words to her that day were still sharp in her memory.
Who was Jonathan? He was the current head of the Tucker family. He usually overlooked minor issues, and even major ones he often let slide–but when he did speak, the family listened.
That sudden slap had shaken her deeply–how could she dare to orchestrate something like this now?
She couldn’t understand why Kayla would lie. She had lent her money to help in an emergency, and now she was being betrayed…
“Go to the hospital tomorrow and apologize to Abigail. And that young woman, Isabelle— given her age and position, the fact that she hasn’t come after you yet is already showing considerable restraint,” Jaxson said slowly, rising to his feet.
Having lived as long as he had, how could Jaxson not see the bigger picture?
Isabelle had her own capabilities, and with Damian’s support, if she truly wanted to make trouble for Sophia, she could have ruined her many times over.
Sophia felt deeply wronged–why should she apologize?
“I…” I didn’t do anything wrong.
She wanted to say it, but the words stuck in her throat–she could only swallow them down.
What choice did she have?
With both a witness and evidence aligned against her, no one would believe her no matter how much she protested.
In the end, it was because of her own past behavior–people had little reason to trust her now.
Even Camellia and Eric didn’t dare defend her openly. If she refused, she’d probably be left standing there all night again, and her legs would give out completely.

“I understand… she forced out, swallowing her humiliation.
Jaxson left the room.
Eric and Camellia quickly moved to help steady her.

Sophia sank weakly, her legs unable to support her–what little strength remained was spent just trying to breathe evenly.
Jonathan glanced at her. It wasn’t that he didn’t feel for her, but more than anything, he was frustrated that she kept disappointing his hopes for her.
“Get some rest. I’ll go with you tomorrow,” Jonathan stated.
“Jonathan!” Sophia called out quickly.
If Jonathan said he would accompany her, it meant he wouldn’t let her face complete humiliation alone. But she didn’t want to simply accept blame she didn’t deserve.
“Jonathan, I really didn’t do it…” Sophia looked at him earnestly, as if hoping for just a shred of trust from him.
Jonathan was silent for several seconds. Sophia wasn’t a skilled liar, but then again–who really knew?
Things had already gone too far.
Christian only learned of the incident the following day. Initially, they hadn’t planned to tell him, worried the news might be too much for his health.
But the situation had drawn enough attention that word soon reached him.
Before hearing the news, he had been at home undergoing a checkup with his private physician. His health had been gradually declining over the past two years, which was why he was so intent on settling his estate matters.
When the news reached him, his blood pressure spiked instantly. He needed medication to bring it back under control.
He had intended to go directly to the Tucker residence to confront them, but after Jonathan informed him they were already heading to the hospital, Christian went there instead, accompanied by two aides.
