Damian didn’t ask any other questions.

But he felt a little unsettled. Anthony had called her “Ellie.”

It was the first time he’d heard such an intimate nickname for her.

Later, they showed the reports to Matilda. Everything was fine, so they left the hospital.

Damian drove. Isabelle sat in the passenger seat, seeming happy, humming a tune all the way home.

“You’re in a good mood,” Damian sald lightly.

“Yeah. The baby is over 12 weeks now. Just a few more weeks until we meet him. Do you think he’ll look more like you or me?” Isabelle studied the report intently. “Probably more like you. You talk to him so much. When he comes out, he’ll probably just want you.”

Isabelle kept talking, not noticing Damian’s distracted mood.

“What’s with you today? You’re so quiet,” Isabelle asked.

“Nothing,” Damian smiled. While waiting at a red light, he reached over and placed his hand on her belly. “I like listening to you

talk.”

Isabelle suddenly thought of Anthony. She looked at Damian and said, “You and Anthony, brothers in hardship, both ended up with me. If you’d met someone heartless, you two would really have suffered.”

“Yeah.” Hearing that, Damian began to understand why Anthony had stayed away for so long.

It must have been hard for him back then.

According to Lucas, Anthony probably returned around the time of Ashley’s accident. If that was the case, he wasn’t just helping Damian–he was helping Isabelle.

“Did he tell you anything else?” Damian asked.

Isabelle said, “No. Thinking back, we thought he was… an idiot. He wouldn’t answer any questions. I met him around the end of the year you were injured. We knew each other for a while, but then lost touch.”

Damian was stunned.

“I don’t mean it like that. He just wouldn’t talk. We only knew his name was Anthony.” Isabelle leaned back in her seat.

She placed her hand over Damian’s, letting his large hand warm her belly as she rubbed it gently.

“To be safe back then, I even used a fake name,” Isabelle said with a laugh.

“What is it?” Damian withdrew his hand to gently pinch her cheek, then returned it to the steering wheel to focus on driving.

“Ellie. Didn’t you hear him call me Ellie?” Isabelle grinned.

Damian let out a soft laugh and shook his head, the tension in his brow easing.

“You didn’t think…? I knew it!” Isabelle said triumphantly.

She hadn’t clarified earlier. Though she’d seen the shift in his expression, ire hadn’t seemed too bothered.

Damian said, “We all have our own friends. A name is just a name. Of course, I’d prefer it wasn’t too intimate, but you have your own way of relating to each other.”

Anthony had only learned Isabelle’s real name the other night. He’d slipped up earlier, afraid Damian might misunderstand, which was why he’d left in a hurry.

That afternoon, Isabelle arranged to visit Collin’s house with Diana.

Damian didn’t go. Linda had no connection to him, but he sent Collin a brief message as a gesture.

When Collin saw the message, his expression didn’t change. He didn’t want visitors disturbing him, but hearing it was Isabelle and Diana, he didn’t object.

He had planned to tell them in a few days. It just happened that Henry ran into her the other night.

Bruce drove, picking up Isabelle first, then Diana.

Diana looked radiant, She’d initially wanted to wear something bright, thinking they could go shopping after dinner. But remembering they were visiting Collin, she changed into simple, muted clothes.

“You two are finally back,” Isabelle complained.

“Oh, come on. You sound just like your husband. Always pushing us to work,” Diana grumbled.

Brian and Diana had just returned, still jet–lagged and barely rested, when Damian called and ordered Brian back to the office.

She took a small gift box from her bag and handed it to Isabelle. “Here. For you. So ungrateful. I finally take a vacation and get scolded for it.”

Isabelle’s expression instantly softened. She took the box carefully, as if it were a treasure, and opened it.

Inside was a delicate pink diamond pendant.

“Wow. You got me a pink diamond? How could you part with it?” she asked.

Diana smiled, “Got bored. Spent his money for fun.”

“You’re something else. If Brian finds out you gave this to me, he’ll make me pay him back tomorrow,” Isabelle said.
