When she didn’t answer, Anthony didn’t push. He kissed her earlobe and whispered, “It’s okay. Take your time. When you’re ready.”
“Anthony,” she said softly.
The corner of his mouth lifted. He brushed the damp hair from her forehead.
It wasn’t exactly what he’d hoped for, but at least she’d stopped calling him Mr. Vale.
Anthony had just carried her to the bathroom and put her back in bed when the nanny knocked.
He tucked a strand of hair behind Daisy’s ear. “I’ll have them give the babies formula. You get some sleep.”
Daisy shook her head. “Bring them in.”
He frowned, opened the door, wheeled the bassinet inside, and sent the nannies back to rest.
Daisy lay on her side, nursing Lyra. Anthony sat nearby, holding Luna, watching her.
“Don’t stare,” Daisy said.
Anthony smiled, “I’m not stealing any.”
Her face went red.
When Lyra fell asleep, Anthony put Luna down, carried Lyra out, and came back.
Daisy was already asleep. Luna’s eyes were wide open, still feeding.
Anthony lay down beside Daisy, propping her up so she’d be more comfortable, and watched the two of them.
He didn’t settle Luna until the early hours of the morning.
Daisy had once said she wanted to sleep with the babies. Anthony had said no.
She was already exhausted enough. Besides, he didn’t want two little ones getting in the way.
Daisy didn’t wake up until almost noon the next day.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” She sounded annoyed. She tried to get up to check on the babies.
Anthony pulled her back into his arms. She rarely slept this well.
“The nannies fed them already. Stop worrying about them so much.” Think about me for once.
“But I’m sore.”
“Where?”

He frowned and started to get up to check her, worried he’d hurt her last night.
Daisy put a hand over her chest, said nothing, and hurried out of bed.
Anthony understood. He didn’t follow.
He smiled.
On Christmas Eve, Daisy brought Anthony to her parents‘ house.
Adrian and Priscilla each held a baby, parading them around in front of Joseph.
Joseph sat cross–legged on the sofa, pretending not to see them.
“Lyra, look. That’s your uncle. He doesn’t even have a wife yet,” Adrian sighed.
Daisy was on the phone with Lynn.
Lynn said she hadn’t been feeling well lately and was thinking of getting checked out.
“You’re a doctor. Take your own pulse,” Daisy said.
“I did. Nothing seems wrong.”
That was exactly why she wanted to go to the hospital.
Boom!

Fireworks exploded outside. Then jellyfish fireworks began rising into the sky one by one.
The night lit up like daylight.
Daisy dropped her phone and ran downstairs.

Anthony had just stepped into the backyard after a phone call. He’d barely hung up when Daisy came barreling out of the house and threw herself into his arms.
Fireworks bloomed overhead. Daisy held him tight.
Anthony stood frozen for a moment, then wrapped his arms around her and stroked her hair.
She looked up. “Are you okay?”
Anthony smiled, “I’m fine.”
They smiled.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?”
Daisy followed his gaze. She understood what he was feeling.
