Chapter 684 The Big Bad Wolf
Chapter 684 The Big Bad Wolf
Joseph watched them from the yard and smiled to himself. He pulled his sleeves back down.
When Daisy and Anthony came back, the first thing Daisy noticed was Lyra in Grace’s arms.
“Look,” she said to Anthony, “doesn’t that look like our daughter?”
Anthony noticed too.
“Joseph’s using her to pick up girls?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Daisy laughed and walked over.
Grace saw that Lyra was asleep and carefully carried her back into the Clark Residence.
“You’re back,” Joseph said, standing up.
“Hold her for a bit before you put her down,” Grace said softly. “Otherwise, she’ll wake up.”
“Okay.”
Joseph reached for the baby. His hand brushed against Grace’s.
Neither of them said anything.
“Thanks,” Joseph said.
“Don’t mention it.” Grace paused. “But your lighter… I couldn’t find it.”
“Doesn’t matter. Forget it.” He held Lyra and glanced at her.
“Then… I’ll go.”
“Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas.”
Grace hurried out of the yard, nearly running into Daisy and Anthony coming in.
Daisy watched her, then looked at Joseph holding Lyra.
“Joseph.” She grinned. “Who’s that?”

“The neighbor from across the street. You’ve seen her before. She came to borrow a lighter.” Joseph’s eyes were on Lyra. He bounced her a couple of times, then laid her back in the stroller.
“Oh yeah? Why’d she run off like that? Looked like she’d seen a big bad wolf. Did you scare her?”
Anthony chuckled quietly and bent down to look at the two sleeping babies.

“I’m not as bored as you are,” Joseph said.
Daisy pouted, then she and Anthony each carried a baby upstairs.
Joseph watched them go. Then he glanced toward the gate.
Grace was playing with the kids outside.
He rubbed his fingers together and looked away.
Outside, Grace happened to glance into the yard. She saw Joseph turn and walk back inside.
She didn’t think anything of it and went back to watching the fireworks.

“Grace, is that man in there mean?” a three- or four–year–old asked. “They say he’s a big bad guy. He caught two kids today. Did he hurt you?”
Grace laughed. “He’s so mean! He almost ate me. He’s a big bad wolf who can turn into anything. If you don’t go to sleep at night, he’ll come get you too!”
She wiggled her fingers like claws. The little boy screamed and ran off.
An old man nearby smiled, “Don’t scare the children. Joseph has a wonderful personality. Stop making jokes about him.”
Grace pressed her lips together. “Oh.”
“You don’t have a boyfriend, do you? What do you think of him?”
“Grandpa, I’m hungry. I’m going to find something to eat.” Grace made an excuse and bolted.
“Hey…”
Upstairs, after settling Lyra and Luna, Anthony glanced at Daisy and reached for her hand.
Daisy didn’t notice. She suddenly remembered something and ran to the sofa to grab her phone.
Lynn had already cursed her out a hundred times in their chat.
When the fireworks had started, Daisy had dropped her phone right there and run to find Anthony. Lynn hadn’t heard back from her for two or three hours.
Daisy smiled and started typing a reply.
Anthony looked at his empty hand. He walked over and sat down beside her.
Daisy didn’t hold back. She swung her legs onto his lap and lay back.
“I’m tired,” she said.
Anthony looked at her legs on his thighs. He grunted and started rubbing them.

Daisy was straightforward. She did whatever she felt like. She always said Anthony was stiff and they didn’t have much in cominon. But whenever they were together, she’d curl up next to him and find something for him to do.
