Chapter 720 We’re Already Married
Is she always this taciturn by nature, or have I frightened her into silence?
She’s so timid, no wonder she’s gorgeous but has never had a single romantic relationship.
Boring.

Claudia glanced at her phone, smiled softly, slipped on her shoes, and walked out the door.
When she reached the residential compound gate, she caught sight of Nolan Garner not far away.
“Nolan.” Claudia called out.
Nolan and Claudia had met at the church up in the mountains, where they both studied calligraphy under Marion Gregory. They’d started their lessons at the same time; he was older than her, and the two had always been on good terms.
Nolan’s brows drew tight the instant he saw her limping along.
He glanced at the bodyguard behind her, then leaned in and whispered, “Did he do anything bad to you?”
Claudia shook her head.
“That’s a relief.” Nolan breathed out in quiet relief.
Nolan said carefully, “I had my grandpa look into things. He said Harold works at the military sub–district with an official, legitimate job–we just couldn’t find out his exact position.
“Still, word goes around that he looks really stern and intimidating. No one knows the real him, but he’s actually ruthless deep down. Rumor has it he’s even killed someone before.”
Intimidating?
Not really. He’s actually pretty good–looking.
But he does have that fierce, unapproachable temper.
Killed someone…
Could that rumor really be real?
Claudia’s heart lurched. Judging from Nolan’s serious tone, there might well be some truth to it.
Nolan kept his voice low and went on, “He had a girlfriend back in college, but she’s married now. He hasn’t been seen with any women these past few years, so everyone assumed he’s gay, and no one dares set him up with anyone. He has a fiancée now, though–his family introduced them half a year ago, and they’re planning to get married in three months.”

Chapter 720 We’re Already Married
“I’ve seen her already,” Claudia muttered quietly.

Nolan didn’t dare say more in front of the bodyguard, terrified Harold would take violent revenge on him if word got out.
“Alright, we’ll chat on WhatsApp later. I brought the thing you asked me to get,” Nolan said.
Nolan handed her the box in his hands, and the bodyguard standing beside her tactfully stepped forward and took hold of it.
After that, the two parted ways.
Half a month later, Harold came back all of a sudden, late at night.
Claudia hadn’t expected him to return out of the blue, or at the very least, she’d thought he’d send her a message first before showing up.
She was in the middle of changing a lightbulb at that moment.
The motion sensor light at the second–floor corner had broken down. She cut off the power supply for that section and fetched a brighter replacement bulb.
Barefoot, she stood on the ladder, tilted her head, and twisted the old bulb out with practiced ease.
She never noticed Harold had stepped up beside her and was steadying the ladder firmly for her.
I never knew she could fix a lightbulb on her own.
The July weather was unbearably sweltering.
She wore a black spaghetti–strap nightgown that only fell to her thighs, with nothing underneath.
As she stretched her arm up to screw in the new bulb, the hem of her nightgown slid upward slightly.
A hint of black lace trim peeked out faintly. Her skin was smooth and luminous, looking strikingly alluring against the dark fabric of her nightgown.
Harold stood below her, able to see every detail unobstructed.
He turned his face away, his eyes dark and heavy–he couldn’t figure out why his feelings shifted so drastically when he looked at different women.
Loretta had been in his life for more than half a year. They’d had meals together, watched movies, and even stood close to each other on many occasions.
She’d worn revealing clothes, too, yet she’d never stirred any longing in him to stay by her side.
But one glance at Claudia, and his heart turned restless and warm, and there were moments he found himself caught up in unspoken urges.

He swallowed hard again and tugged at the tie around his collar.
It felt as if she were the only woman who could rouse such a reaction from him.
The bulb flickered to life, and Claudia let out a small sigh of relief.

She was about to climb down when she turned her head and froze, spotting Harold standing fight in front of her.
Claudia nearly let out a startled cry.
Her hands clutched the ladder tightly, fearing she’d slip and fall.
When did he get here?
I didn’t hear a single sound at all.
He was dressed in his army green service uniform, sleeves rolled up to his forearms. His arms were strong and well–defined, with faint veins bulging under the skin–an arresting sight that made her pulse race.
The second she took in her own state of dress, a deep blush flooded her cheeks in an instant.
He’s seen everything, hasn’t he?
She scrambled down the ladder in a fluster, hurried into her bedroom, and shut the door firmly behind
her.
Harold stared at the closed bedroom door, his eyelids drooping with quiet exasperation.
She has no sense of caution whatsoever.
He’d been standing right beside her for ages, and she hadn’t noticed his presence one bit.
