Chapter 726 The White Audi
Chapter 726 The White Audi
Claudia froze for a second.
Mr. Harrington.
It clicked–he was Roger, the driver from yesterday, the guy with the scar across his cheek.
After washing up quickly, she headed out.
Roger was leaning against the front door of the villa, not stepping inside.
“Sorry, I overslept…” Claudia said, feeling a little embarrassed.
“Morning, Claudia,” Roger replied with a short nod, avoiding eye contact.
Who taught him to greet her like that?
A warm blush spread across her cheeks. She didn’t have the heart to correct him.
“Mr. Cross asked me to bring you a car,” Roger said, holding out a key fob.

She glanced at the white Audi A8L parked nearby—a model that easily went for over a hundred grand.
Was Harold being serious?
What did that make them now?
When she didn’t take the keys, he simply pressed them into her palm and turned to leave.
“Hey–wait!” Claudia called out, but Roger was already hurrying away. He rounded the corner and slipped into a black Rolls Royce Cullinan where Harold and Howard had been sitting with the AC running for an hour and a half–while Roger had waited outside in the heat.
“Why didn’t you just give it to her yourself, Mr. Cross?” Roger muttered under his breath. If this was about showing you cared, wouldn’t it mean more coming straight from you?
Harold didn’t answer. He just shot him a look.
She didn’t like bulky guys. He worried she’d have nightmares.
If sixpacks were her thing, Harold would’ve been first in line. But they weren’t. And he couldn’t exactly shrink himself down, nor was he willing to pile on the pounds.
Besides, Harvey was back. Harold didn’t feel he had the right to step in like this anymore. Once his father returned, whatever was between him and Claudia would likely fade back into quiet, polite distance.
Howard sat in the passenger seat, pressing his lips together to keep from laughing.
Sneaking around just to show you cared about a girl–it was almost sweet, if you thought about it.

The night before, Harold had gone home, stripped off his shirt, and spent a long time studying his reflection, clearly not thrilled with what he saw. Howard had walked in on that little moment and nearly paid for it with his life.
So Mr. Cross has bodyimage issues? Who would’ve guessed?
Honestly, Harold was confused, too. He was just fit–wasn’t that how a soldier was supposed to look? Why did everyone keep calling him a meathead?
He’d tossed and turned over it half the night and still didn’t get it.
But what really bugged him was that he didn’t even like her that way… so why did he care so much? He was just grateful to her. Keeping her safe should’ve been enough.
Lately, Harold couldn’t shake the feeling he’d been cursed.
Claudia ate breakfast with the car keys sitting on the table in front of her.
The car was brand new, and the title was already in her name.
This guy really wasn’t afraid she’d just take off with it.
Still, it solved an immediate problem.
From here to Trustwin Law Firm, driving should take about twenty minutes.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about buying her own car, but with bodyguards still posted outside from time to time, she knew things weren’t fully settled yet. Going out alone would’ve only stirred up unnecessary trouble.
But now the guards were gone, and Harold had sent a car.
So that chapter was finally closed.
There was still Sebastian, though. Harold probably didn’t know anything about that. Come to think of it, how had Harold dug up all that info about the Bowman family?
Claudia finished her glass of milk, licked her lips, and opened WhatsApp.
!
“Mr. Cross, how much was the car?”
Harold had just entered the military district when the message came through.
Was she trying to pay him back?
Harold sent, “Did you feed the fish?”
Claudia stared at her screen. As if she’d let his two little fish go hungry.

Were those fish more important than a car?
“Yes, I fed them.”
Harold didn’t reply after that.

She held her phone for another minute, feeling awkward, then gave up and walked out into the courtyard. Under the pavilion, the koi swam lazily–doing just fine, maybe even a little plump.
She pursed her lips and somehow forgot all about asking for the price.
