Harvey had already mapped out the entire itinerary with Zander, and now that Claudia had joined them. it was only natural to include her in the plans.

“Of course,” he replied.

“All right, I’ll take him for his bath. You go change, and then meet up with us,” Harvey said.

Claudia gave a nod. “Sounds good.”

Dinner was arranged at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant. Seated around the table were Harvey, Claudia, Darren, Nora, along with Howard and Dolores.

Zander was placed between Harvey and Claudia.

“Just a relaxed dinner, no need to feel tense,” Harvey reassured the group.

– He then served Zander a spare rib.

Claudia glanced at the boy–he seemed to have filled out a little recently.

Holding the rib with both hands, Zander munched away, soon ending up with grease around his mouth.

Harvey’s brow furrowed slightly as he reached over to wipe the corner of Zander’s lips.

Across the table, Darren and Nora exchanged a look.

Howard chimed in, “Really, Mr. Kingston, Mr. Cross is very easygoing. Nobody needs to stand on ceremony here.”

Darren had always heard that Harvey was the kind of downtoearth executive people described, but he’d never actually seen him so approachable. In his mind, Harvey had always seemed somewhat distant, almost untouchable.

“Don’t just watch him–you should eat too,” Harvey said gently to Claudia.

“Right.” Claudia nodded.

She found it a little curious–normally Zander needed Harold’s help to eat, but with Harvey he managed entirely on his own.

Harvey simply kept refilling his plate and topping off his juice. It didn’t look difficult at all.

“He behaves so well for you,” Claudia remarked without thinking.

Hearing that, Harvey glanced down at Zander, who was busy chewing a piece of meat. “You don’t listen to

Mom and Dad at home?”

Cheeks puffed with food, Zander mumbled, “Zander’s good.”

Claudia smiled.

Harvey gave the boy’s head a light pat and explained to Claudia, “It’s not that he’s only wellbehaved with me. He just wants more attention from you two. He’s really attached to you.

“The reason he listens around me is because he knows if he acts right, he won’t be a bother. In his mind, that’ll make you like him more. Zander’s a good kid.”

Claudia looked at him, her heart aching softly.

“Thank you, Harvey.”

Harvey returned a mild smile. “Would you like Dora to stay with him tonight?”

It was the first time Harvey had referred to her that way in front of others. He rarely even used the nickname in private.

Claudia caught the flicker of alarm on Dolores‘ face.

“I wanna sleep with Mommy. Zander will be good and won’t disturb Mommy,” the boy announced, glancing at Harvey as if seeking approval.

“So you don’t need Dolores after all?” Harvey asked.

“No. Dolores is really tired,” Zander replied.

Harvey pinched his cheek lightly. “Smooth talker.”

Dolores let out a quiet breath of relief and picked up a piece of rib, tucking it into her mouth.

It felt like she hadn’t had a proper night’s rest in ages.

Claudia smiled toward her. “Thank you for all your help lately. I know it hasn’t been easy.”

“No trouble at all,” Dolores managed, the words squeezing out around the food in her mouth.

Harvey noticed the glisten of sauce at the corner of her lips and slid a napkin toward her. “Wipe your mouth.”

“Thanks, Harvey.” She took the napkin without hesitation and dabbed at her mouth.

Claudia still couldn’t quite figure out the nature of their relationship.

Harvey took a sip of iced juice. “Then he’ll stay in your room tonight.”

“Okay,” Claudia agreed warmly.

She was looking forward to some quiet time with Zander too.

The boy clearly brightened at the news.

On the other side of the table, Darren nudged Howard discreetly. “So what’s the story with the assistant and Mr. Cross?” he asked in a low voice.

“They’re neighbors–known each other for years. They use those nicknames even when it’s just them. We’re all used to it. Besides, Dolores is actually the best friend of Mr. Cross‘ sister.”

Howard added, “But family ties aside, Dolores is seriously capable. Last week when I was under the weather, I had her quietly handle some tasks. She did a solid job.”

Darren nodded.

For a moment, he’d almost worried Harvey’s reputation might take a hit.
