Chapter 843 Fireworks
By the time they reached the town square, the fireworks display had just kicked off.

“Stand in front of us,” Harvey said, making space for her. “Once it gets more crowded, you’ll get pushed back otherwise.”
Claudia stepped forward, glancing briefly at the two of them before turning her gaze upward to the brilliant bursts of color painting the night sky.
Perched on Harvey’s shoulders, Zander cheered and gasped with every explosion overhead.
Harvey wasn’t really watching the fireworks–he was watching Claudia.
With her head tilted back, Claudia felt something she hadn’t experienced in what seemed like forever: a quiet, spreading warmth.
She wished Harold could be here.
Pulling out her phone, she snapped a quick photo of the sky. Just as she was about to send it to Harold, Zander’s voice piped up behind her.
“Mommy! Take one of me!”
He was already grinning and throwing up a peace sign.
Claudia turned and lifted her phone, switching to the front camera. The three of them filled the screen.
“Cheese!” Zander made a goofy face.
Claudia smiled.
So did Harvey.
The fireworks ended sooner than expected. As people began to disperse, someone hurrying past bumped into Claudia, who was still focused on her photos.
“Watch it.” Harvey reached out, caught her by the wrist, and gently pulled her back before letting go almost immediately.
They waited near the edge of the square, letting the bulk of the crowd pass before making their way out.
“Send me those pictures later,” Harvey said casually, as if the earlier moment hadn’t lingered in his thoughts.
“Sure,” Claudia replied, pressing her lips together faintly. She still felt a little awkward.
After leaving the square, Harvey led them to a late–night food truck that was still serving. He ordered a couple of portions of loaded nachos.

his appetite.
“You want anything?” Harvey asked Claudia.
She shook her head. She wasn’t hungry yet. “I’m good–you two go ahead.”

Harvey didn’t push it. Once Zander had eaten most of his share, Harvey finished off the last few nachos Zander had left behind.
Back at the hotel, Zander was still buzzing with energy.
“Night. Be good for your mom,” Harvey said, stopping just outside their door without stepping inside.
“Goodnight, Uncle!” Zander chirped, holding Claudia’s hand.
Harvey’s eyes met Claudia’s. He paused a couple of seconds before saying, “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight,” she replied.
The door closed softly.
Harvey stayed outside, head slightly lowered, not moving for a solid two minutes before finally turning to walk away.
When he returned to the suite, Dolores was already asleep in the second bedroom.
Her door was shut firmly, and hanging from the knob was the “Do Not Disturb” sign that usually hung outside the main suite entrance.
Harvey gave it a passing glance, then headed to the living room. He poured himself a drink from the minibar, settled onto the sofa, and swirled the glass slowly before taking a sip.
After a while, he opened his laptop and scanned through some documents.
A notification popped up–a WhatsApp message from Howard, sent a few minutes earlier.
Harvey called him right away. “Bring the files over.”
“Mr. Cross, I’m just out of the shower–I’ll be there in five,” Howard answered, sounding slightly flustered. Harvey hung up, walked over to the suite door, and left it unlocked.
As he turned back, he noticed Dolores‘ sneakers lying haphazardly on the carpet near the entryway.
He bent down, straightened them neatly, then returned to the sofa.
Maybe it was the drink, or maybe the air conditioning wasn’t doing its job, but Harvey was starting to feel a
little warm.
Figuring Howard wouldn’t arrive immediately anyway, he decided to take a quick shower.

When he came out, he had only a towel wrapped around his waist. He stood by his laptop, drying his hair with another towel.
Just then, Howard reached the door and was about to knock when Dolores wandered sleepily into the living room. Her hair was tousled, and she froze mid–yawn, scratching her head like someone still mostly asleep.
Hearing movement behind him, Harvey turned–and found Dolores standing there, blinking slowly, clearly not fully awake yet.
His gaze shifted past her shoulder, and he spotted Howard waiting in the doorway behind her.
Dolores seemed to short–circuit. She hesitated, unsure whether to keep heading toward the kitchen for water or retreat to her room.
Her eyes, however, were glued to Harvey’s torso–specifically his waist and the defined lines of his abs.
She bit her lip lightly.
Wow.
Those V–lines.
Noticing where she was staring, Harvey glanced down at himself, then quickly snatched a jacket from the sofa and tossed it toward her.
It landed right over her head, covering her face..
“Look at me,” he huffed with a furrowed brow. One hand rested on his hip while the other rubbed at his forehead, color creeping across his cheeks.
He felt oddly… exposed.
