5 Second Thoughts
Chapter 855 Second Thoughts
Claudia set Zander down and helped Harold put away the toys.
Pursing her lips, she found herself thinking about Darrell earlier.

She used to be like that too, she realized–wondering if Darrell and Joyce had been together back in the. day, and whether she would’ve taken him back if they had.
Looking back now, she’d been pretty lovesick.
Good thing she’d had enough sense to marry Harold first.
Next door, Harvey was scrolling through his WhatsApp chat with Claudy.
Harold had sent over a voice memo earlier, followed by a bunch of videos and photos–all of Carson and Jessica hanging out at the arcade.
As soon as Harvey got Claudia’s messages, he made Dolores leave the room.
At first, Dolores tried everything to stay–they knew each other well enough, it wasn’t like she was going to hit on him.
Any other time, Harvey might’ve let it slide, but after seeing those photos and clips, he showed her the door right away.
He even held it open for her.
And just to avoid any gossip, he booked her a separate standard room down the hall.
Dolores had no clue what she’d done to set him off like that.
Once she was gone, Harvey took his glass out to the balcony, gazed at the city lights below, and called Harold.
“Why send these to me? Forward them to her.”
Harold paused, then replied, “You’re her boss on this trip. Claudia doesn’t have her WhatsApp set up, so I had to send them to you. Besides, she’s traveling for work–anything that happens during work hours is your responsibility.”
Harvey saw right through his little scheme. “Kid, you’re not cut out for matchmaking.”
Harold went quiet–busted. “Fine, you forward them then. It’s not like I talk to her much anyway.”
They hung up, and Harvey finished his drink in one go.
Leaning back in his chair, he stared blankly ahead.
It was pretty clear what was going on between Harold and Claudia.

Plus, that time back home when Claudia was trying on her wedding dress, he’d definitely seen a hickey on her neck while standing behind her.
Who else could’ve left it but Harold?
Harvey poured himself another glass, glanced at the videos of Carson and Jessica again, then turned off his phone. He wasn’t going to bother with it.
But for some reason, his eyes stung a little.
After her shower, Claudia was putting Zander to bed.
Harold was puttering around in the other room.
By the time he came back, Zander had just drifted off.

Claudia’s gaze fell on him as he stepped inside, clutching a steaming spiced herbal mug alongside a single soft–poached egg.
He set it down on the windowside table and came over to her.
Once she’d tucked Zander in, Harold took her hand and gently led her toward the window.
“It’s still warm, but it might taste kinda weird. I probably messed it up,” he said with a light chuckle. “Try it first–if it’s no good, I’ll make you another one.”
Claudia looked from the mug to him, smiled softly, and picked up the spoon to take a sip.
“Honestly, I can’t begin to imagine how spiced herbal brew paired with an egg would even taste.”
Nobody had ever fixed such an odd combo for her before.
She liked the warm spiced drink on its own, and eggs were perfectly fine separately–but mixing the two? It struck her as incredibly bizarre.
He tilted his head. “So when you get your period, you usually just tough it out?”
Claudia felt a faint blush rise to her cheeks. She hadn’t expected to be discussing this with a guy today.
“Not everyone gets bad cramps.”
“Oh…”
“I do sometimes, but it’s not too bad. Most of the time I’m okay.”
Even as she said it, she kept sipping until she’d finished the whole mug.
The taste was… definitely interesting.
