Chapter 913 Testing Boundaries
“How do I know you aren’t just after my pretty face or my trust fund?”
“Harvey, listen to yourself-does that sound like something a sane human being would ask?” Dolores was genuinely irritated by h absurdity.
“Then prove you’re actually my girlfriend.”
“Claudia already filled you in. What more do you need?”
Harvey tilted his head, scrutinizing her. “Claudia’s too soft-hearted. You probably sweet-talked her into covering for you.”
“As if I have the time to go around pretending to be some random guy’s girlfriend Dolores huffed, dropping her tote bag on the chair. She wasn’t in the mood to banter with someone who wasn’t making a lick of sense. “If you don’t believe me, fine. Just pretend I’m not your girlfriend, then.”
Harvey watched as she poured herself a glass of water from the pitcher.
“You want some?” She held the cup out to him.
He took it and took a slow sip.
“Girlfriend,” Harvey murmured, a faint smile playing on his lips.
“You’re impossible…” Dolores turned her attention to the clutter on the nightstand, absentmindedly straightening up his toiletries:
Harvey looked up at her. “Can I get a kiss?”
“No.”
“How about a hug?”
“No way!”
What was with these ludicrous requests?!
They’d only officially been a couple for five minutes, and he was already trying to move to second base?
So superficial.
So tacky.
Dolores’ mind raced ahead to how she was going to explain this to her parents later-and to Damian and isabelle too What whole she do if they found out? Harvey was significantly older than her, after all
She let out a quiet, internal sigh. Whatever, if anyone asked, she’d just claim he had a concussion and she was just humaning buy fo keep him calm.
Harvey looked a little dejected. He leaned back against the stack of pillowsand stared up at the acoustic tiles of the ceiling
Dolores glanced over a pang of worry tightening her chest. “What’s wrong? Are you upset?”
“No, my head just hurts…”
“I’ll go get the nurse.”
Harvey pressed his fingertips gently against his temples. “Don’t bother.”
She set down the items she was holding and sat on the edge of the mattress, her fingers moving to his temples in a soft, rhythmic massage.
Harvey watched her in silence, his gaze tracing the curve of her eyes, the slope of her nose, artd finally lingering on her lips.
In his dreams, she had always been a blur-a faceless entity calling out to him. There had never been a time when he wanted to se her as badly as he did during those long, dark nights in the coma.
Now she was right here, solid and real, and he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
“Girlfriend,” Harvey whispered.
Dolores responded softly, “Hmm?”
When he didn’t continue, her eyes scanned his face, checking for dilated pupils, worried he might be having another neurological episode.
“What is it… boyfriend?”
Harvey reached out and rested his hand lightly on her waist. He didn’t move it, didn’t dare push his luck-he just kept it there, testing the waters.
