Chapter 914 A New Beginning
A hospital aide arrived wheeling in a dinner tray..
Isabelle ended her call with Harvey and took her place at the dining table.
She heaved a deep sigh of relief, realizing for the first time in days that she was actually hungry. “Harvey awake. He said it’s too late for a visit tonight–Dora’s already there with him.”
Harold and Claudia exchanged a knowing glance. They hadn’t intended on going back to the hospital anyway.
Over the meal, Claudia recounted the interaction between Harvey and Dolores from earlier that day.
Suddenly, everything made sense to Isabelle. No wonder Harvey had insisted they stay away.
For once, Harvey had actually taken the initiative.
He had never really had any glaring faults–except when it came to romance. It was as if he was missing a crucial chip.
People always described him as charming and easygoing, yet he had never been completely swept off his feet by anyone before.
Later that night, after Claudia stepped out of the shower, she found Harold nodding off against the headboard, his laptop still balanced on his knees.
Zander was sound asleep right beside him.
She gently lifted the computer from his legs and set it on the nightstand.
The movement roused him.
“Did I wake you?” Claudia smiled, climbing onto his lap and resting her head against his chest.
Harold grinned, wrapping his arms around her waist and stroking her back. “Work has been a nightmare lately. I feel like I haven’t had any time for you.”
Claudia was worn out as well. She kept her eyes closed and murmured softly. “It’s okay. Just don’t go getting into any mischief behind my back.”
“You’ve got some nerve, Claudia–suspecting me!” He pinched her cheek playfully
Claudia chuckled softly against him and held him tighter.
Harold reached over to switch off the lamp, pulled her close, draped an arm around her waist, and kissed the top of her head. They drifted off wrapped in each other’s embrace.
Dolores sat by Harvey’s bedside, carefully feeding him spoonfuls of broth.
Amanda had just dropped it off.
The moment they heard from Dolores that Harvey was awake, they had rushed straight to the hospital.
“Amanda, you guys should head home now. The nurses are on duty, and it’s getting late–the roads are going to be slick.”
It was December, and the night air carried a biting chill. The streets were practically deserted after dark-
Quentin glanced at Amanda. Dolores wasn’t sure if she was expected to leave with them or not.
Just then, Harvey finished his soup, and she started efficiently packing up the container.
“Dora”
Amanda gently placed a hand over Dolores‘ to stop her. “Isabelle isn’t feeling well, the Cross family business is still stabilizing, Damian is away on business, and Claudia is holding down the fort at home. You don’t have plans, so why not stay? Besides, you’ve been looking after him all this time anyway…
“Mom!” Dolores lowered her voice. “How can I, a single woman, stay here alone with…”
A man and a woman, alone in a private room together!
For the past few days, while Harvey was unconscious, Dolores could manage it–she would just curl up in the visitor’s chair.
But now Harvey was fully alert, calling her babe” and “girlfriend” at every turn. If she stayed tonight, there was no telling what might happen.
