Evie’s pov
Everything and everyone suddenly got silent. Even the reporters stopped breathing for a second as Ryan held my father in the air like he didn’t weigh a thing. My father’s face began turning red as he clawed desperately at Ryan’s wrist. “A-Alpha-” He
choked out.
‘Apex is losing control,’ Serena whispered anxiously.
The reporters stumbled backward, the cameras shaking as they continued filming anyway. One woman nearly tripped over herself trying to get away from Ryan.
My father managed to rasp out a cold laugh despite Ryan choking him. “Look at you,” He wheezed painfully in mockery.” Destroying your own reputation over that cursed girl.”
Ryan’s grip visibly tightened and father gasped, face turning so red that I feared he’d remain that shade permanently. “She has a name,” Ryan snarled. “And you will speak it with respect.”
My chest tightened painfully as I watch Ryan defend me in front of everyone.
“He’ll have the council get involved in this….” Gavin muttered. “He can’t afford to screw this up.”
But Quincy crossed her arms and glared outside. “No,” she said coldly. “Who gives a damn about the council getting involved? Let the man defend his family.”
“I’m not saying he shouldn’t defend her, hell he should a hundred percent but he should’ve done it smartly and not attack him in front of cameras. They could use it against him,” Gavin points out. “As much as I don’t see eye to eye with the guy, he’s the best alpha the Silver Blood pack could have and if he loses the title…..the pack will be done for.”
Gavin was right. This could end up badly for Ryan.
My father looked toward the cameras again, still struggling in Ryan’s grip. “This,” He choked out bitterly. “Is exactly what I meant. Ever since Evie was born, destruction followed her everywhere.”
Even now. Even after Kimberly murdered his mate. Even after everything.
He still hated me more.
Ryan’s grip tightened even more and if he continues to apply pressure, he’d break his neck. I had to stop him so he’d not ruin his reputation.” Ryan,” I breathed out knowing he’d hear me.
He stiffens when he does and glances at me. Our eyes clash and I silently tell him with my eyes that he should release my father. His jaw clenches and with a growl, he reluctantly releases him.
My father collapsed harshly onto the ground and coughed violently until spots of blood flung out of his mouth. The reporters surged closer again. Ryan stood over him like a dark cloud ready to unleash a storm.
“You failed as a father,” Ryan said in a scary calm tone. “You stood by while your daughter was abused, humiliated and treated like garbage by everyone around her,” His voice grew colder and more furious. “Including you.”
Father looked up at him, his eyes burning with hatred and there were no signs of regret on his face. “She ruined my family.”
“No,” Ryan snarled. “Kimberly did.”
The entire crowd erupted into murmurs again.
Ryan stepped closer. “Your precious daughter murdered her own mother and her younger brother,” His eyes glowed brighter. And yet somehow you still blame Evie.”
Father freezes before replying, but this time his voice chokes up a bit. “It was Evie who killed him and she killed Margaret. If

she hadn’t come back here….. Margaret would still be alive.”

Ryan let out a cold laugh that had no hints of humor. “Your precious daughter killed her own family,” he said darkly. “But you blame someone innocent who had not lifted a finger? Did you hear me correctly? It was Kimberly who ripped out Margaret’s tongue. Not Evie.”
Father’s face hardened stubbornly. “Kimberly snapped because of her.”
“She snapped because she’s a murderer,” Ryan roared, causing everyone to flinch. “She’s always been a murderer. She just showed her true colors then because she was sloppy.”
Suddenly a sharp sound cuts through the air inside. Gavin stiffens because that sound came from his pants pocket. He took out his ringing phone and cussed under his breath.” Shit. It’s the council. They must’ve been trying to get in touch with Ryan but since he’s preoccupied, they’re trying to get through to me.”
My stomach dropped. The council was involved now.
“Answer it,” Lisa whispered nervously. Gavin looks reluctant.
“Gavin,” Quincy snapped. “Answer the damn phone before you make it worse.”
With another curse under his breath, Gavin swiped to answer and immediately pulled the phone away from his ear when a furious voice exploded through the speaker. “Put Alpha Ryan on the phone immediately Alpha Gavin!”
Gavin looks fed up and spares me a glance. I nod and with a sigh, he walks out of the door and towards Ryan who was still standing over my father. I didn’t want Ryan to be in any more trouble than he already was because of me.
Gavin stops beside Ryan and I can hear all the way from here, the leader’s voice boom through the speakers. “Put the call on speaker right now.”
Gavin does what he’s demanded with a bit of hesitation. ” Alpha Ryan!” The council leader hisses through the phone.
“What is it?” Ryan said boredly, still glaring at my father who was still coughing up blood.
“Have you completely lost your mind!?” The man roared and the reporters gasped.
“The council is calling him!”
“Are they intervening already?”
Ryan’s expression remained emotionless as he didn’t bother responding. I swallowed and pleaded with my eyes for him to comply. “You are ordered to stand down immediately,” The council leader snapped through the phone. “Remove the reporters from your territory and report to the council with Evie Gold at once.”
Both Ryan and I stiffen.
I am being summoned to the council…..
Ryan’s eyes flickered to me and then toward Atlas. His jaw clenches before he says one word that makes everything in the air shift. “No.”
