Evie’s pov
The reporters had left two hours ago and now what was left in the pack was just chaos. The Beta was dead and the acting Beta was in the custody of the council.
Silver Blood pack had no second hand.
“What do we do with the body Alpha?” Arielle came to question.
Ryan looks at me and I look away. I know it would be my decision on how I would put my father to rest.
‘He doesn’t deserve peace.’ Serena mused and honestly, I agreed with her. My parents had always chosen Kimberly over me even when she was the cause of their demise.
Their hatred for me had run so deep that they chose a monster over me.
My eyes drifted toward the covered body laying beneath the white sheet outside. The wind shifted slightly, making the fabric flutter. A strange numbness settled deeper into my chest.
That was my father beneath there.
But somehow….. he had stopped feeling like my father a very long time ago.
Ryan’s hand settled gently against my lower back. His touch is warm and makes warmth spread across my body, instantly calming me down.
“Evie,” he whispered softly. I knew what that meant. It was my decision to make.
My throat tightened as I looked away from the body. A part of me wanted to scream that I didn’t care what happened to the body. Another part wanted to bury him and forget this entire day ever happened.
I looked at Ryan and uttered. “He should be buried beside Margaret,” my eyes cast over to the dead body in disappointment. ” He deserves to be buried beside his mate.”
Ryan nods and accepts my wishes. For the next hour or so, the pack members help with the body and help put things in order.
However, after everything was done, I felt numb. Serena also had quit stirring from the moment father killed himself.
“I need to punish the warriors who let the press in,” Ryan grumbled when he closed the door to his office. We were all in here, me seated on the couch while Gavin and Kwan stood just before his huge desk.
But instead of walking towards the desk….Ryan walks over to me. I gasp when he sits down and lifts me up like I weigh nothing. He sets me on his lap and hugs me close.
My heart finally start to work again. It melted the ice that had surrounded the organ a bit earlier from father’s words.
Ryan buries his face in my neck and inhales deeply. Gavin and Kwan share amused glances. “If we knew you two love birds would be all cuddled up we’d have waited until you two were done before coming in.”
Ryan grumbles something on my neck before lifting his head. I can’t help it, I giggle a bit.
“Okay let’s be serious here. It’s clear your pack is going against your wishes. Well, at least some of them are because as you have stated, some of the warriors let the press in and didn’t inform you. If I were you, I’d hold a meeting and see
Ryan stiffen suddenly and Gavin stopped talking, staring at Ryan in confusion. I turn to Ryan and see that his eyes were toggy A very clear indication that someone was mind linking him.
The second the fog leaves his eyes…… he utters in an icy voice. “The council leader is here and he’s brought with him others.”

Ryan’s pov
All I want to do was hold my mate and hug her. I wanted to bury my head in her neck and draw in as much of her scent as possible into my lungs. She calmed me down. Evie…..
After years of wishing for this, finally we can be together.
We can finally be a family now.
“I’ve told them to allow the leader to come here,” I said tightly as Evie got off my lap. I didn’t like that we had to part even though it was for a little.
Apex growled irritably inside me the moment her warmth left my arms. ‘Put her back.’
I can’t now. Not when the council leader was storming here with others.
He’s minutes away from opening the door.
I dragged a hand down my face and stood slowly from the couch while trying to shove down the possessive instincts clawing at me to bring her into my arms. Instead….I reached for her hand the second the door opened.
I grasp her like she was my lifeline because she was. She and our son were.
“Alpha Ryan,” the council leader snarls the moment he steps into the room. His aura is strong, urging lower ranked wolves to bend. Not us in here.
The others followed after him closely, their eyes darting around the room as if searching for threats.
“We were supposed to come to you,” I pointed out stiffly, tightening my hold around Evie’s hand. She squeezed my hand as reassurance and that made me relax immediately.
The council leader’s eyes flickered down toward our joined hands before his mouth tightened. “Well seeing that a death was shown on live television after I ordered for you to control your pack, I think it was a good choice I come to check on the pack myself to see what was really going on.”
My jaw tightened as he walked more into the room and plops right down on the chair in front of the desk. “Beta Gold did suicide. It wasn’t our doing and I will get my pack under control,” I gritted out.
The council leader leaned back slightly in the chair, studying me with narrowed eyes. Two council members stood behind him while two more positioned themselves near the door like silent guards.
“You say that now,” the council leader replied with no emotion in his tone. “But from what the world witnessed today, your pack is in shambles, your Beta is dead, your acting Beta is under investigation and your Luna to be has been named a curse by her very own father.”
