Evie’s pov

Everything happened way too fast. It was like I had just blinked and in one second my father was kneeling before me with hatred burning in his eyes then the next-

Blood sprayed across the grass.

A horrified scream tore through the crowd as my father’s claws ripped across his own throat. His body collapses onto the ground head just inches from my toes.

“Stop recording!” Some of the reporters screeched in horror, lowering their cameras.

But others kept filming anyway. Because some people were cruel like that. Tragedy sold better than compassion ever could.

“Move back!” Some screeched above the shocked gasps.

“Oh goddess-

The smell of blood slammed into me so brutal and without warning that it caused my stomach to twist. I bite my tongue, hard. My father’s body tremble slightly on the ground while blood soaked into the grass beneath him.

All I could do was stare. Unsure of how to feel in the moment. He had hated me so much to the point he took his own life in front

of me.

He wanted me to feel the pain. He wanted me to put the blame on myself. He wanted me to fear that his words would come true.

But I don’t feel anything.

Ryan moved instantly. “Turn those cameras off!” he roared so loudly the windows of the pack house tremble. Some of the reporters obeyed his words instantly but some who were brave enough, kept their cameras rolling.

Apex surged closer to the surface and Ryan’s eyes flashed dangerously red. “I said off! NOW!”

That did it. Every remaining camera lowered and the pack warriors finally came to force the reporters out of the territory. Even Quincy came out the house to shove one man herself when he tried sneaking another recording.

“Didn’t you hear the Alpha?” she snapped viciously. “Get the hell out!”

My eyes remained locked on my father’s body. His blood was inches away from my toes now, slowly creeping through the grass.

I should’ve felt something. Perhaps relief even but….nothing.

Instead what I felt was a strange emptiness where my heart beat normally.

Arielle’s pov

I stared at the screen before me, glaring at the two of them. Look at her. Her father had just killed himself in front of her and she had no emotion showing on her face.

Evie…..

I despise you.

My eyes rip from her to stare at the Beta’s body. Our pack is ruined because of her. Evie Gold. Since coming back here she’s only brought destruction. She was a curse like Beta Gold said.

She would ruin Silver Blood pack further.

My claws push out and press into the skin of my palm until I draw blood. Just then the door opens behind me. I stiffen and quickly put the television off.

“Goddess Arielle, have you seen what’s going on out there?” Thetta grumbles.

I turn to him slowly and shrug. “I did say she was a bad choice to lead. She isn’t even Luna yet but look at what she’s done.”

Thetta looked at me like I had grown a second head in my shoulders. “Are you blind and deaf? Did you not hear that it was Kimberly who killed her mother and her little brother? You’re just as delusional as Beta Gold clearly.”

I glared at him furiously. “I’m not delusional!” I snarled.

Thetta’s face hardened instantly at my outburst. “You sound insane right now Arielle,” he said flatly.

My nostrils flared with anger. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me.” He crossed his arms. “Kimberly murdered her own family and somehow you’re still blaming Evie for existing. The girl has barely done anything. Beta Gold killed himself to put the death on her too.”

I scoffed. “Beta Gold did what was necessary.”

Thetta raised both brows in shock. “Do you hear yourself right now?”

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest. “I don’t get why you can’t see all of this is happening because of her. She came back and everything started falling apart!”

“No,” Thetta corrected sharply. “Kimberly killed people, her own family and escaped. Beta Gold publicly shamed his daughter then slit his own throat. Ryan rejected the council order because he’s in love with his mate and put his family first above all,” His eyes narrowed. “Those were their choices. It wasn’t her doing. It wasn’t Evie’s fault. It was theirs.”

I let out an irritated breath. He couldn’t see it. He was too blinded by her act of innocence.

“That man hated his daughter so much he killed himself in front of her just to traumatize her one last time,” he grumbled with distaste. “And somehow you still found a way to defend him and you still blame her.”

“I’m not defending him!” I snapped.

Thetta shook his head and then looked at the black screen of the television before his eyes skit to the empty bed where the Beta had been in. My body locked up.

“Speaking of the Beta. Who released him? He was far too weak for any doctor to give him the okay to walk out the infirmary…” Thetta drawled but something in his tone told me he knew it had been me who released Beta Gold.

My stomach tightened with nerves but I forced myself to stay relaxed and appear like nothing was amiss. “What are you implying?” I asked in a very calm tone.

“The Beta was under strict orders to not leave the infirmary u til he is better,” he said slowly. “He did not seem better out there yet someone allowed him to go out…..”

I looked away, swallowing. Thetta’s eyes narrowed. “Please tell me it wasn’t you who allowed him to go out there Arielle!”

“I didn’t think he’d say those things about Evie!” I snapped, glaring at Thetta. “He said he would try to calm down the situation. Evie is his daughter I didn’t know he’d say those nasty things to her.”

Thetta looked at me silently before shaking his head in disappointment. “You better pray to the Goddess Alpha Ryan doesn’t find out you were the one who let Beta Gold out of his room.”

My hands clenched into fists at my sides as I seethe. “Even though I let the man out, I had no part to play with what he said about Evie!”

Thetta let out a heavy sigh. “I’m hoping you weren’t involved Arielle for your sake. You see the lengths alpha Ryan would go to
