Chapter 108
Kieran
The bond does not dictate my body anymore.
What the hell does that even mean?
How could she claim to have rejected me months ago and I never felt any change in my body? Cora could not tell I was rejected?
Serena would say and do anything just to be able to get the divorce she wanted and even come up with fake stories just like this.
There was no point in wasting my time or my family’s time trying to get her to tell the truth. She had made the decision to consciously breathe these lies.
And from what I have gathered, it seems she has forgotten that everything comes with a price. Every lie she tells has a repercussion.
And that was what she was about to see.

was giving me the leeway for me to show her exactly what I could do. It’s easy for her to spout nonsense and it was easy for me to show her just what she was asking for.
“We should leave,” I said startling everyone present.
Grandfather’s head snapped toward me. “What?”
“Leave this family alone.” I turned to face him. “We are leaving.” I repeated while keeping my eyes on her.
Her eyes widened slightly, just the reaction I was expecting.
“We are not finished-” Father started.
“We are.” My voice filled the room. “This conversation is over. We are going.”
The shock on Serena’s face was the only thing I took with me. She expected a fight, a threat, a war declared across. her mother’s living room.
I stepped toward her; my family shifted behind me, restless, confused.

used to. There was no man in the picture and no matter how long she wanted to act like there was, I could still
tell.
Serena respected herself too much for this crap.
“You don’t have to worry,” I said to her; my voice was low, meant for her ears alone. “One way or another, you will return to the house.”
I smiled.
Serena
I watched Kieran’s car disappear at the end of the street through the front window. My fingers pressed against the glass; the baby kicked once, sharp, restless.
What was that? What was that look he gave me before he left? Why did he leave so easily? Why did he not fight, not yell, not demand answers about the rejection I just threw at his feet?
Kieran wouldn’t just accept this. Even his last words told me that he was not just going to accept the defeat.

My stomach churned.
What did he mean by that? What was he planning? How could I protect myself from a man whose next move I could not see?
My mother’s hand gripped my arm; “I want you to know that we are on your side.” She said gently.
“Yes, whatever decision you wish to take, we will stand by your side.” He smiled at me.
But even my family was not enough to protect me from whatever this man had planned. He was capable of anything, he was crazy and he had the power to backup such craziness.
There was no way I could win against him.
And he had no limit, he might just drag my family into
this chaos.
“I should’ve been here and taught them a lesson.” Josh suddenly said breaking the silence. “I’m sure if Kieran received a punch from me or two, he would know not to mess
with you anymore and that family of theirs is really,

asking for a good beating.”
His words were filled with childish voraciousness to defend his family. It was both cute and very annoying to see. This had brought us problem with Sophie and Kieran before, it shouldn’t lead to another.
However, right now, I could not even find it in me to scold him. I only laughed along with my parents.
“Don’t worry,” I said. “He won’t do anything.”
These words were a dangerous lie I was feeding my family. They had already done so much for me, I didn’t want them to worry their heads anymore.
If they could get the rest of the day without any worries, that was enough. They had spent many days looking over their shoulders unsure of what Kieran would do next.
They did not need more fear. They carried enough for a lifetime.
“He’s leaving us alone,” I said. “That’s a good sign.”
Magmother nodded.

The rest of the day went smoothly and even though I kept wondering what was going to happen next, nothing happened.
But I was not about to rest. Even when the night
came, I still could not keep my mind at peace. Kieran was unpredictable but at the same time, he was very predictable. He was going to do something, I just did not know when.
I woke up in the morning and quickly checked my phone, there was no news, the world did not stop, the hospital was not caught up in flames and my life had not stopped.
I tried to steer my thoughts from Kieran and focus on the fact that today was my first day at the department. My own department, my own team, my own office with my name on the door.
I was not going to let Kieran’s shadow steal this from me. I refused.
I got out of bed, pressed my hand against my belly, breathed.
“We’re going to work today,” I whispered. “You and me:03
We earned this.”
