The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 171

Chapter 171

Kieran

I looked at Serena and almost smiled.

Serena was completely different from Michelle, She was calmer, and more classy. I knew she would never result to publicly embarrassing herself like this over a mistress. That was why it was shocking to find Sophie in the hospital covered with injuries inflicted on her by Sophie.

Serena at the moment had her eyes on the crowd. The truth of the life we were living was coming down on her. She could hardly take her eyes off the fight that was being broken off.

I had hoped that a conversation with Michelle would change her mind and fix her whole narrative. The agreement

between Sophie and I was different from What was

happening to the rest of the alphas and I wished I could tell

this to Serena.

I was nothing like these men able to go beyond their mate bond and cheat on their wives. Serena was not just a trophy

wife to me. She was the mother of my child.

If only she could just understand what was at stake, if only she knew what was going on and stop fighting it. But knowing her, she would not do that. She hated Sophie and the second she learned that Ethan was not mine, then the whole family

would find out.

“You’re pregnant,” I said. “That’s what needs your attention.

Not Sophie, not anyone else in this room. The baby and nothing else.”

She took her eyes from the fight and brought them to me. “You really do believe this baby is yours, don’t you?”

I glared at her. “The baby is mine and I know you want me to

believe otherwise, but I do know you.”

“The baby isn’t yours,” she said. “But since you seem very concerned: if you want me to put up with Sophie, learn to put

up with Misha and Andrew. And stop complaining.”

I took her hand. “Things are different between us,” I said. “I

didn’t sleep with Sophie. It’s not the same.”

“Then how did the baby happen?” she asked.

“Sophie and I.” I stopped and then exhaled. “That was years 2/9

ago. Long before you and I were married. Whatever Sophie

and I were, it was a long time ago. It’s not what this is now.”

She tilted her head.

“And I’m having something right now,” she said. “Not years ago. Right now.” She held my gaze. “So it’s the same thing,

isn’t it?”

I stared at her.

Her logic made no sense. What happened with Sophie was

long ago before I met her but now she was catching her fun

with Misha and Andrew.

“I’m not like those men,” I said. I looked back across the room

to where James stood at a different conversation, his back to

the corridor, his glass in his hand.

“These are the men you surround yourself with,” she said.

“They run in your world and sit at your table. They’re your peers, Kieran. Why would I believe you’re different?”

“Because I am.”

“Keep telling yourself that,” she said. “Maybe eventually you’ll 3/9

believe it.” She pulled her hand from mine. “You brought me here tonight for a reason. That reason was to show me

what this is and why I should accept it. I got the message.” She looked at me. “I don’t want anything to do with you right

now.”

She turned and took the path by the side away from the fight.

There was no way she could easily just walk away from me in

the midst of a conversation.

I took a step towards the path she had taken.

A hand closed around my arm, I turned around and saw Sophie standing behind me, her fingers were tied around my

wrist.

“What?” I said.

“Kieran.” She kept her voice low. “I don’t know if your wife is

angry that I’m here, but I want to explain. I didn’t come to

cause trouble. Fiona said her family would be coming and

asked me to join them. I didn’t realize Serena would be here

or I wouldn’t have-”

“Sophie.” I looked at her. “Stay away from Serena. There’s

nothing to explain to her. There’s no conversation that needs

to happen between the two of you.”

I turned to leave.

Her hand tightened on my arm again.

“Kieran. Are you okay with me being here?”

I looked at her, this was an alphas summit hosted by my family. My grandfather and father were not present because

they were not the active alphas of crimson. But if they were,

then Sophie had brought herself to the lion’s den.

“You came here knowing my family would be present,” I said.

“You came knowing Serena would be here. You knew what

this event was.” I held her gaze. “Was that not stupid?”

Her chin dropped. “I didn’t mean to.”

“Sophie.” I exhaled through my nose. “I’d advice you to leave.”

In truth, even though my grandfather and my father weren’t here, this was information that could reach them and at the

end make them show up.

“Can I-” She pressed her lips together. “Would you be able

to drop me off? I came with Fiona and I don’t want to wait

alone.”

“No,” I said. “I’ll call Mark. He’ll take you wherever you need to

go.”

“Kieran.” She stepped toward me. “Are you really going to abandon us?”

“I’m not abandoning anyone. Mark will be there for whatever

you need. He’ll drive you, he’ll handle anything practical.” I looked at her. “Be more careful about your environment next time. That’s the last thing I’ll say about it.”

I walked away.

I moved through the crowd looking around for Serena and

found Michelle instead. She stood near the far wall with her

drink refilled and her pearls in order and her chin up. There

were no signs that she had just engaged in a brawl except

the fingers pointed at her and the whispers hanging around

her.

James’s mistress was gone.

“Where’s Serena?” I asked Michelle.

“She went with some of the other women,” Michelle said. She nodded toward the side corridor. “Some of them are playing games in the east room. They were setting up when I last saw.”

“Thank you,” I said, and moved.

I was halfway down the corridor when a sharp scream travelled through the air, snatching my attention.

I hurried back to the party and found that a crowd had surrounded again and the music had been lowered.

Sophie stood against the wall. Jenna was in front of her, and down the front of Sophie’s dress ran a dark stain of red wine,

still wet. Jenna’s hand connected with Sophie’s face. The sound rang in the corridor.

“You are not supposed to be here, you tramp,” Jenna said.

“You understand that? You need to leave.”

Jenna was close to grabbing Sophie’s hair and doing worse
