The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 6

Chapter 138

Serena

The table is full and warm, and I pick up my glass while everyone talks at once.

“Can I have everyone’s attention for a moment?”

Conversations drop. Trevor sets his drink down. Jenna straightens. Andrew, who has been staring at Ethan finally looks up at Serena a smile on his face, as for Sophie, she goes very still.

Kieran watches me from the opposite end of the table. His eyes don’t move.

“Tonight is about celebration,” I say, letting my gaze travel the table and land on each face before moving to the next. “My department. My work. The people I want close going forward.” I pause just long enough for the warmth of it to settle. “Since we’re all going to be neighbors, I think we should make it official. Sophie and Ethan are upstairs now. I want us all closer.”

  1. “Darling. Raise your glass.”

One beat passes, then two.

He finally lifts the glass.

We all drink from our glasses.

I set my glass down and smooth my palm against the tablecloth. “There’s one more thing. I’ve taken Ethan as

my godson.” I said excitedly, smiling ear to ear.

Sophie leans toward Ethan immediately, her lips near his ear. He pulls himself upright in the chair his eyes went going wide and bright.

“Serena is my godmommy?”

“You can just call me Serena,” I say. “No need to change anything.”

Ethan processes this for two seconds. Then he swings around in his chair and points at Kieran with his whole arm, a committed gesture that puts his entire body behind the announcement.

“Daddy.” His voice carries clean across the table. “Thank you, Daddy. And thank you, Serena.”

Everyone moves at once. Trevor lifts his glass. Jenna claps once. Andrew draws breath.

Kieran stands up.

The scrape of his chair cuts through everything, a blade drawn clean across the room. Sophie’s hand freezes midway to her glass and hovers there.

“I don’t agree to any of this.”

Trevor sets his glass down very slowly. “What do you mean you don’t agree?”

Kieran doesn’t look at him. “You

eard me.”

“Ethan has been calling you daddy for months,” Trevor says. “You sat there and accepted it every single time. What exactly don’t you agree with tonight?”

“Shut your mouth, Trevor.”

Treyor moves his eyes away, deciding the sentence isn’t

worth his attention.

Andrew has been studying Ethan since the chair scraped. He turns to me with his head tilted and his brow pressed into a deep crease.

“Serena.” He considers his words with deliberate care. “Are you certain this child belongs to your husband? I’ve been looking at him since we sat down and I genuinel can’t find it.”

Kieran looks at Andrew. “Shut your mouth.”

Andrew blinks. He looks back down at his plate. “Noted.”

I press my hand flat on the table and lean toward Kieran. “He’s your son. Let him call you what he calls you. Don’t embarrass yourself at my dinner table.”

Kieran’s eyes come to mine. “You are not allowed to take him as your godson. I didn’t agree to that.”

Andrew reaches across the table and covers my hand with his. “Serena. What if you’re the godmother and I’m the godfather? I’ll step in. It would be my honor.”

Sophie laughs loud enough the entire room is moved towards hers. “Oh, Seren, your friend is so funny.”

Andrew turns to look at her. His expression goes flat.

“When I’m talking,” he says, “you don’t talk. I don’t enjoy being interrupted by people with ugly faces.”

Sophie’s laugh disappears as her chin lifts.

“Andrew.” My voice comes out firm. “That’s en

“I’m only-”

“Kieran is Ethan’s father.” I say it clearly. I hold Sophie’s eye for one second. “He’s the only father that boy knows. Whatever is happening at this table doesn’t change that.”

Sophie leans down to Ethan and whispers something. He listens with enormous focus, Then he slides off his chair, walks the full length of the table, and stops directly in front of Kieran. He tips his head back and points at Kieran’s chest with one small finger.

“I want this daddy.” His voice fills the room. “He buys me toys. He loves me very much.”

Nobody speaks.

Kieran’s hand closes hard around his glass until his knuckles go white.

Trevor glances at Andrew. Andrew watches Ethan with the expression of a man recalculating a position he thought was solid.

“Stop trying to adopt someone else’s child,” Trevor tells him.

“I wasn’t adopting-”

“Mind your business.”

I clear my throat.

“Honey.” I keep my eyes on Kieran and my voice steady. “Don’t let opinions get to you. Ethan is your flesh and blood. When you’re old and everything hurts, he’ll be the one sitting at your bedside.” I pause. “Though if you’re unkind to him now, he might just stand at the foot of the bed and watch.”

Jenna makes a sound into her glass.

Aina stirs in my chest, pressing toward the bond that runs between Kieran and me- still alive and threaded

through with warmth despite everything I’ve done to thin it. I can feel Cora on the other side of it, faint but reaching, pulling toward my wolf the way he always has without knowing why I keep pulling back. Even across a dinner table, with Ethan’s hand pressed against Kieran’s knee and every secret laid out like a centerpiece, the bond hums between us.

I press Aina down.

Kieran’s eyes meet mine. They’re dark and flat.

“The baby you’re carrying belongs to me,” he says.

The table goes quiet in a different register.

“We did the test,” I say. “The results were clear. That baby isn’t yours.” I press my palm flat against my stomach under the table where he can’t see it. “Ethan is the child
