Chapter 120
The night settled gently over the estate, cloaking everything in a calm that almost felt suspicious. Outside Damian’s bedroom window, the moon hung low, casting a pale sheen over the floorboards, illuminating the folds of the blanket around me.
It had been only a few days since Naia’s betrayal, since Mira’s unflinching justice, and since I shifted–finally–into what I truly was. Or maybe only part of what I was. Because I still didn’t know exactly what that meant.
Royalty. Heir. Legacy.
The words didn’t make sense. They didn’t fit.
Damian was downstairs, probably speaking with Mira about tightening security and rebuilding some section of the estate. I had barely touched my dinner, and Mira had frowned at me, her eyes as sharp as ever, before she finally said, “Get some sleep, Serene. The worst is over.”
I wasn’t so sure about that.
I tucked my knees to my chest and rested my chin there, staring at the necklace stand across the room.
Empty.
My chest ached all over again. I left it at Naia’s place…
The necklace Alberta gave me. The one Isa sent. The one that belonged to my mother.
Why did I forget something so precious?
I hadn’t seen Isa again since that strange encounter, when she whispered truths like riddles and vanished just as quickly. But somehow, I felt her presence. Not always–but in the stillness, in the way the air sometimes shifted. It was never loud. Just… there.
1 crawled back beneath the blanket and closed my eyes, thinking maybe–just maybe–I’d get a few hours of real sleep.
But instead, I found her.
It started in a forest. Not like the one around the estate–this was older, deeper. Each tree stood like a monument, their trunks wide as towers and
that shimmered silver even without sunlight.

The wind here whispered secrets. And the sky overhead was streaked with constellations I didn’t recognize.
And standing in the center of it all, in a clearing bathed in light that didn’t seem to come from anywhere, was Isa.
She looked exactly the same. White hair tumbling down her back in loose curls, eyes the color of dusk, and a long dark robe that moved like water. Her presence was commanding, yet warm–like a mother you wanted to run into but also how before.
I took a step forward. “Isa?”
She turned slowly, her face unreadable, but her voice was gentle. “Hello, child.”
My chest tightened. I opened my mouth to ask a hundred questions, but nothing came out.

Chapter 120
Isa smiled softly, “You always had a storm in your heart. It’s why you carry both the fire and the calm. You feel everything too deeply. That is your gift–and your curse.”
“Where am I?” I whispered, my voice echoing in the trees.
“Somewhere in between,” she said, walking toward me. “This is where the blood speaks. Where the past and future meet in dreams.”
“I thought you were gone.”
“I am,” she said. “But I’m not. Death is not an end for those born of the old blood. We cross over… and then we guide.”
My throat closed up. “So you’re like my spiritual guardian now?”
“More than that. I am your tether to the truth.” Her eyes narrowed slightly. “There is so much you still don’t understand, Serene. And soon, you won’t have the luxury of confusion.”
“1” I paused. “I found out I’m royalty. From my mother’s side.”
Isa gave a slow nod. “You are the last living daughter of House Everflame.”
“Everflame?”
She stepped beside me and raised her palm. In the air between us, a flame appeared, hovering silently. It burned gold, not red or orange–its glow ethereal.
“This was your mother’s crest. Fire that healed, fire that destroyed, fire that chose.”
Tears welled in my eyes. “She died protecting me, didn’t she?”
Isa nodded. “They came for her. Because of what she was. Because of what you would become. But she left pieces behind… pieces in you.”
I looked down at the flame. “I don’t feel powerful.”
