Chapter 121
“You don’t feel ready. That’s different.”
Her hand dropped, and the flame dissolved into golden sparks.
“I left her necklace,” I blurted suddenly. “At Naia’s house. 1-1 can’t believe I forgot it.”
“You didn’t forget. You weren’t ready,” Isa said, turning away. “But now, it is time to reclaim everything that was stolen–your strength, your birthright, your
truth.”
She began to fade. The forest dimmed.
“Wait!” I called. “What else? What am I supposed to do now?”
Isa’s voice echoed as her form disappeared into the darkening mist:
“Listen to your bond. Guard your heart. And beware the silence before the scream.”
I woke with a gasp.
My skin was damp with sweat, my breath sharp. But I wasn’t afraid. No. I felt… steadier.
Damian stirred beside me, his brows furrowing before his eyes opened and met mine. “Serene?”
I turned to him, reaching out, instinctively seeking his warmth. “I saw her. Isa.”
He blinked slowly. “In your dream?”
I nodded.
“She said… she’s going to guide me now. From the other side.”
Damian sat up against the headboard, pulling me gently into his side. “Then we’re not alone.”
A pause.

“I have to go get it,” I whispered. “The necklace.”
Damian exhaled. “Then we’ll go together.”
The morning was soft and gray, the clouds stretching over the hills like wool. Mira greeted us at the kitchen with a knowing glance. She didn’t ask where we
were going. She simply handed us both thermal coats, a set of car keys, and a protein bar she insisted I eat before fainting again.
The drive to Naia’s wasn’t long, but the silence inside the car was thick with unspoken thoughts.
I kept replaying Isa’s words in my mind.
Guard your heart.

ppp.
Beware the silence.
Why did that sound like a warning?
As we neared Naia’s old apartment, I felt my body tense. The building was quiet, and the air seemed unusually cold for late spring.
“Do you want me to go in first?” Damian asked, watching me closely.
I shook my head. “No. This is something I have to do myself.”
The hallway still smelled like cinnamon incense and lavender. Naia’s scent. I reached for the key Mira had taken from Naia’s coat when she was arrested.
I turned the lock and stepped inside.
Nothing had changed.
The living room was as cozy and deceptive as I remembered. I moved through it carefully, Damian staying near the doorway, giving me space.
My eyes caught the glint of silver on the vanity.
The necklace.
I reached for it, fingers trembling. The moment my skin touched it, something clicked inside me–like a lock turning.
A pulse of warmth radiated from the pendant, traveling up my arm and through my chest.
I stumbled back slightly, catching my breath.
“Serene?” Damian was at my side instantly.
“I’m fine,” I said quickly. “It’s just… it reacted. Like it knows me.”
He helped steady me. “It’s yours. Your mother’s magic is in it.”
I looked up at him. “We have to leave. I don’t like this place.”

He nodded. “Agreed.”
Back at the estate, I sat at the edge of Damian’s bed again, fingers curled around the pendant. The gold crest gleamed softly in the low light.
“I feel like I’ve opened something I can’t close,” I admitted.
Damian sat beside me. “That’s what power is. Once you awaken it, it doesn’t let you sleep.”
A half–laugh escaped me. “Great. Eternal insomnia.”
He chuckled. “You’ll get used to it. And you’ll learn how to control it.”
“I’m scared,” I confessed, voice dropping. “Not just of what’s coming… but of what I might become.”

He took my face in his hands, gently. “Then become it anyway. You are not your bloodline. You’re what you choose to do with it.”
I leaned into him, resting my forehead against his. “Thank you… for choosing to be here. Always.”
“I couldn’t stay away if I tried.”
Outside, thunder began to roll across the distance, low and ominous.
