Chapter 28
Writer’s POV
The room was cold again.
Sterile and lifeless.
Selene sat upright on the metal bed, arms wrapped around her knees.
She hadn’t seen the masked men since the night she was brought in.
No one came. No one spoke.
Until now.
A loud click echoed from the door, and it creaked open slowly.
She didn’t move. Just watched.
The man who stepped inside wasn’t masked like the others. He was
tall, clean–shaven, dressed in black slacks and a beige turtleneck that
clung too tightly to his lean frame. His shoes tapped against the floor
like a metronome.
And he was smiling.

Chapter 28
Too wide. Too calm.
“Good morning, sunshine,” he said as if she were an old friend. “Did
you sleep well?”
Selene didn’t answer. Her body remained still, but her eyes tracked
his every step.
He clapped his hands. “No warm welcome? Not even a ‘Who the hell
are you?‘ Shame.”
He walked over to the table near the far wall and poured a glass of
water from a metal jug. “You’ve been quiet. That’s good. Quiet girls
tend to last longer.”
Selene’s eyes narrowed. “What do you want from me?”
The man turned. “There she is.” He smiled again, wider. “I’m Mark.”
She didn’t reply.
Mark shrugged. “No need for formalities. I already know who you are.
Luna Selene. Mate to the Alpha King. Beautiful, brave, spirited…” He
stepped closer, slowly placing the glass of water on the edge of the
metal table beside her. “And currently, very, very far from home.”

Selene stayed silent. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.
Mark crouched. His face came closer than she liked, eyes gleaming like he was studying an experiment. “Let’s get one thing straight, love. I don’t need to hurt you. Unless you make me.”
There was a shift in his tone–a sharpness that sent a chill up her
spine.
Then, he was smiling again. “Drink something. I need you healthy.
You and I have a lot of work to do.”
Meanwhile: Back at the Estate
Damian hadn’t slept.
Not since the call.
Not since that voice had threatened the one person he couldn’t afford
to lose.
He stood in his office now, watching the security monitors as if they could somehow spit out a clue. His shirt was unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up, hair messy from his fingers running through it over and
over.

Chapter 28
Mira walked in with her tablet, her face pale and tight.
“I’ve gone through every satellite feed in a fifty–mile radius. Nothing.
It’s like they vanished.”
Damian didn’t respond.
“I checked every garage, every tunnel, every abandoned building we
flagged during past missions.”
Still silence.
“Damian,” she said more firmly, stepping in front of him. “You need
to sleep. You can’t help her if you collapse.”
He looked at her. Something unspoken in his eyes. Rage. Guilt. Fear.
“She was right in front of me,” he whispered. “And I didn’t protect
her.”
“You didn’t know-”
“I should have.”
Mira softened. “She’s strong. You’ve seen her. If anyone can make it
through this, it’s Selene.”

Damian’s jaw clenched. “I won’t stop until I get her back.”
“Then let me help,” Mira said, voice low. “We’ve got one
unaccounted–for van seen exiting the shopping district thirty
minutes after the disappearance. I’m tracking its route now.”
Damian stood straighter. “Good. Let’s follow it.”
Back in Captivity
Selene didn’t drink the water.
Mark returned hours later. Same smile. Same unsettling calm.
“Still not thirsty?” he asked, sighing. “That’s okay. You’ll come
around.”
He walked to the far wall and opened a narrow drawer, revealing a
tablet. When he turned it on, Selene saw several files with encrypted
names. Her own face appeared on the screen.
She tensed.
“You’ve been quite the curiosity in our little world,” Mark said casually, scrolling, “Powerful blood. Tied to a man so influential, people would kill just to send a message through you.”

He paused. “Don’t worry, though. You’re not going to die. Not yet,
anyway.”
Selene’s eyes darkened. “Why are you doing this?”
Mark looked thoughtful for a moment. “Let’s just say your beloved
Alpha made the wrong enemy.”
“You’re using me to get to him,” she stated.
He smiled brightly. “Finally! She speaks sense.”
“Damian will find me.”
Mark stepped closer, and the smile vanished. “That’s what I’m
counting on.”
There was a flicker in his eyes, a brief madness he didn’t bother
hiding.
“You’re going to help me break him,” he whispered. “And the best
part? You don’t even know how yet.”
