Chapter 85
The silence in the house was deceptive.
Damian sat hunched over his laptop, his features sharp in the glow of
the screen. He was searching, analyzing–piecing together fragments
of digital evidence about Kael’s mysterious death. Next to him stood
Taurus, silent, brooding, arms crossed as he watched Damian sift
through files and encrypted surveillance.
“Something about the timestamp doesn’t sit right,” Damian
muttered, narrowing his eyes at a paused video.
“There,” Taurus pointed. “Zoom in. That shadow–there’s someone
with him before the feed cuts.”
Damian complied, but before either of them could speak further, a
figure stormed into the room.
Serene.
No words. No warning. Just motion.
She raised a frying pan over her head and with vicious precision,
brought it down on Taurus’s skull.

CRACK.
The sound echoed like a gunshot.
Blood spurted as Taurus stumbled, swearing loudly, catching himself
on the desk, blinking furiously in shock.
“Serene!” Damian shouted, rising from his seat.
But she didn’t answer him. Her eyes were feral–burning with hatred
-and fixed solely on Taurus.
“Take that, you murderer,” she spat, voice laced with venom. “There’s
more where that came from. Make sure you fucking look left and right
before crossing the damn road, Taurus, because I’m coming for you.
I’m going to end you, you sick bastard!”
Taurus looked at her, stunned and bleeding, hand to his forehead.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?!”
She stepped toward him, chest heaving. “If I had a gun, I’d unload it
into your empty skull. You think you’re smart? Think you can play
God and take away the only family I had?” Her voice cracked with raw
grief. “You both are full of shit. You think I don’t know? You think I
can’t feel it in my soul when a monster is near?”

“Serene,” Damian said again, this time more forcefully. “What the
hell are you talking about?!”
She turned on him briefly. “Don’t act clueless. You know what he did.
You protect him—this soulless piece of garbage. You let him in here.
Into our space. Into this house.”
Blood was streaming down Taurus’s temple. He didn’t speak, just
glared, wiping his sleeve against the gash.
“You’re out of your damn mind,” he muttered.
Serene stepped forward, raising the frying pan again.
“Taurus, get the hell out!” Damian barked.
There was a pause–Taurus’s cold eyes locked with Damian’s for a
moment–then he turned and staggered out, leaving behind a trail of
crimson.
The door slammed behind him.
Silence.
Serene stood there, chest rising and falling rapidly, the bloodied pan
slipping from her fingers and clattering to the ground.

Damian stared at her for a long moment, then walked slowly to his
laptop.
“You want the truth?” he said, voice low. “Fine. Sit down.”
She didn’t move.
He didn’t wait.
The screen came to life, showing grainy surveillance footage. Damian
spoke as the video played.
“This is from the night Kael died. A private cabin–off–grid. He was
meeting someone. We don’t know who. But he wasn’t alone.”
The video showed Kael pacing nervously in the small, dimly lit room.
A shadow appeared in the doorway. The footage glitched. Then-
static. The camera died.
“That’s all we have. Just minutes before his death. Someone
destroyed the camera right after. But I wasn’t there. And I didn’t kill
him.”
Serene’s lips trembled.
“I didn’t kill him,” Damian said again. “You want to hate me? Fine.

But not for that.”
Silence stretched between them. Too thick. Too heavy.
Finally, Serene pulled in a shaky breath and whispered, “I can’t be
here anymore.”
Damian blinked. “What?”
“This house… it’s suffocating. Everything here reminds me of what
I’ve lost. Of you. Of Kael. Of my father. I need to leave, Damian. I
need to clear my head.”
He stepped toward her, voice low. “You can’t just walk away from all
of this.”
“I’m not walking away forever. I just need space. From you. From
everything.”
“Serene-”
She looked at him, eyes glassy. “Please don’t chase after me. Just…
just let me breathe.”
She turned and walked toward the bedroom, dragging out a suitcase.
Her hands moved mechanically as she folded her clothes, eyes hollow

and movements slow. Damian stood in the doorway, unmoving.
