The Alpha’s Mafia Luna
Chapter 88
“Serene, hurry up before I leave you!”
Naia’s voice echoed from the living room, but I was still in front of
the mirror, lip gloss wand in one hand, deciding if I looked like I had
my life together–or at least like someone who didn’t cry in the
shower two days ago.
“You’re not leaving me,” I called back. “You love me too much.”
She snorted. “I love you conditionally. And those conditions include
being on time for our girls‘ day out.”
I rolled my eyes and finally stepped out of the room. Naia’s eyes
widened as soon as she saw me.
“Okay, damn. Give a girl a warning,” she said, tossing her bag over her
shoulder. “You’re glowing like you have a rich sugar alpha on speed
dial.”
“It’s literally just mascara and lip gloss,” I laughed, spinning once in
my jeans and the crop top she forced me to wear.
“No, it’s not. It’s confidence and a nice ass. Let’s go, pretty girl.”

Chapter 88
We spent the first hour roaming around the outdoor market, trying on sunglasses we didn’t plan to buy and taste–testing snacks from
little food carts. It was the first time in weeks that I felt… human.
Laughing too loudly. Taking silly selfies. Wearing clothes that made
me feel something other than haunted.
Then the attention started.
“Hey gorgeous, you got a name?”
“I’ll pay for whatever you’re buying if you give me your number.”
“Girl in the crop top! You got a man?”
Naia couldn’t stop laughing. “Serene, you are on fire. This is like the
fifth guy in thirty minutes.”
“I swear I didn’t do anything!”
“You didn’t have to. You’re just hot and mysterious. That combo will
kill a man.”
I tried to stay chill, but every time I smiled politely or brushed one
off, they just kept coming. At the smoothie bar, one guy offered to buy
me a drink just because I “looked like I broke hearts for a living.”

“You got a man?” he asked again.
“I have a knife,” I replied sweetly, sipping my drink.
Naia choked on hers from laughter. “Serene!”
“What? I’m just being safe!”
By the time we got home, our feet hurt and our stomachs were full.
Naia dropped her tote on the couch and kicked off her shoes with a
groan.
“That was fun.”
“It was,” I smiled, walking toward the kitchen. “I needed that.”
“No, I needed that. A reminder that we’re still young and hot and
capable of attracting trouble.”
I grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge and tossed one to her
before flopping beside her on the couch. “I can’t believe how many
guys tried to flirt with me today.”
“I can. You’re fine as hell, and now that you’re not weighed down by
trauma and secrets-”

“Naia!”
“What? It’s true!”
We both burst into giggles before she reached for her phone. “Oh, let
me check that job board thingy again. Maybe one of the places
actually replied-”
She paused mid–scroll.
“What?” I asked, tilting my head.
“Wait.”
“What?”
Naia’s mouth slowly dropped open. “Serene. SERENE.”
“Naia, you’re scaring me.”
She turned the screen to me, her eyes wide with disbelief. “You got a
callback.”
I blinked. “For what?”

Chapter 88
“For Draven’s Enterprise. As a personal assistant.”
I stared at her, frozen. “I don’t even have a résumé.”
“I used that one we made for fun in high school–remember the one
with zero real experience and lots of creative language? I didn’t think
it’d go anywhere.”
I blinked again. “Naia. That company is like… huge.”
“I know.”
“They don’t hire random girls with trust issues and a high school
diploma.”
“I know.”
“I didn’t even apply.”
“I KNOW!”
We sat in stunned silence before I whispered, “Are you sure it’s real?”
She scrolled up, scanned the sender, and nodded. “Yup. Verified
address. Legit contact details. There’s an attached offer letter and
everything.”

I covered my face with my hands. “I’m going to pass out.”
Naia squealed and tossed a pillow at me. “You’re going to work at
freaking Draven’s! You’re going to be surrounded by men in suits.
Tall, dark, dangerous ones.”
I peeked at her through my fingers. “Why does that part excite you
the most?”
“Because it’s giving ‘secret office romance‘ and ‘I spilled coffee on the
CEO and now I own the building.“”
I groaned and flopped back on the couch.
Naia kept reading the email. “They want you to start on Monday.”
“Monday?! That’s, like, two days away.”
“I know, right? That’s barely enough time for us to find you office
clothes and mentally prepare you not to stab anyone.”
“I don’t have any office clothes.”
“You will. We’re going shopping tomorrow.”
“You do realize I’ve never worked a real job before, right?”

Naia looked over at me and grinned. “Which is why I’m going to train
you. Starting now.”
I sat up slowly. “Oh no.”
“Oh yes,” she said dramatically. “First rule: never show weakness in
front of corporate wolves.”
“What if they ask for my qualifications?”
“You say, ‘I am the qualification.””
We laughed long into the night, sprawled on the floor with fashion videos playing in the background and an online cart full of cheap
blazers and work heels. For the first time in a while, the future didn’t
feel like a black hole.
It felt like a maybe.
A scary, ridiculous, surprising maybe.
And I was ready.
Sort of.
I’ve got bills to pay.
