Serene’s POV
The sun rose quietly over the city, casting a soft golden light through the windows. The birds chirped outside, and the air smelled like freshly baked bread from that corner bakery Naia always dragged me

Another scream echoed from the hallway–my own voice, echoing off
the walls like a banshee in distress.
“NAIAAAAAAAA!”
Seconds later, she stormed into my room barefoot, eyes wide, hair wild. “What?! What happened? Are we being attacked? Did you step

on a nail?!”
I clutched my face, my hair an absolute disaster, heart racing. “I DID
SOMETHING TERRIBLE.”
She blinked. “Did you… murder someone?”
“WORSE,” I wailed. “I told Lucas I’m a werewolf!”
Naia froze. “Wait. What?”
“Last

was… I told him about the forest thing.”
She frowned. “You mean when you were a kid and everyone shifted
except you?”
“YES.”
She crossed her arms. “And?”
“I told him everything!” I groaned. “I said wolves and pack and moon
-I even mentioned that time I thought a squirrel had powers. I was
drunk and stupid and now–NOW–he knows!”

Naia tried to hide a smile. “Technically, you didn’t say you’re a
werewolf, right?”
“I literally said the word shift under the full moon, Naia.” I collapsed
into the pillow with a dramatic groan. “What if he’s human? What if
he thinks I’m crazy? Or worse… what if he’s a hunter?”
She laughed. “Lucas? A hunter? Girl, he looks like the kind of man
who cries when he kills a spider.”
“I’M BEING SERIOUS.”
I sat up, still wrapped in my blanket like it could protect me from
shame.
“What if he reports me?” I whispered. “What if I end up in a lab being
poked with silver needles?”
Naia groaned. “You’ve been watching too many supernatural
conspiracy movies again.”
“I’m being cautious.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
I grabbed a pillow and screamed into it.

“Do you think he’ll fire me?”
Naia raised an eyebrow. “He brought you home after three margaritas
and a squirrel monologue. I think you’re safe.”
I buried my face again. “What if I scared him?”
“Did he look scared?”
“No. He looked… calm. Like a wolf. A sexy, terrifying, forest–man kind
of calm.”
Naia burst out laughing. “Oh no. You’ve got a crush.”
*I DO NOT,” I snapped.
“You just called him a sexy forest–man, Serene.”
“It slipped!”
She sat on the edge of the bed, grinning. “Next thing you’ll say is he
smells like pine and unresolved trauma.”
“He smells like cinnamon and rain,” I muttered into the pillow.

Naia clutched her stomach and rolled back, laughing so hard I wanted
to throw her off the bed.
“This is serious!” I pushed her with my foot. “I’m his personal
assistant! If he fires me, I’ll end up back at that bakery where the
manager smells like onions and midlife crisis.”
“You’re overthinking.”
“I’m a werewolf working under a possibly human CEO. This is chaos.”
Naia sobered a bit. “Okay. Rational adult time. Did he freak out?”
“No.”
“Look disgusted?”
“No.”
“Run away?”
“No… he laughed. A lot.”
Naia smirked. “Either he likes weird girls or…”

“Or?”
“…he already knows.”
I blinked. “You think he’s supernatural?”
“He didn’t seem surprised, right? Maybe he’s just hiding it.
I groaned again, flopping back. “I embarrassed myself.”
She stood up. “It’s Sunday. Get up. You’ll live.”
“I’m never going outside again.”
“You have work tomorrow.”
I screamed again.
Later That Morning
After a forty–minute shower, I shuffled out of my room in Naia’s
oversized panda hoodie and fluffy socks.
“Comfort clothes for emotional recovery,” I mumbled.

She handed me hot cocoa like a nurse dealing with an emotional
breakdown. “Drink. Breathe. Check your phone.”
My soul left my body.
“My phone!”
I dove for it like it was about to self–destruct. I hadn’t even looked at
it since last night.
There it was.
One new message.
From Lucas.
I froze. My hands shook.
Naia leaned over. “Read it.”
“I can’t,” I whispered. “What if it says ‘You’re fired, wolf girl“?”
She snatched the phone from me and opened the message.
Lucas: “Hope you’re feeling okay. You gave me a good laugh last

night. Don’t worry, your secrets are safe. See you at the office
tomorrow.”
I stared at the words, barely breathing.
“He knows,” I said softly. “And he’s okay with it.”
Naia smiled. “He even said ‘secret.‘ That means he heard you.”
I blinked. “So… he might be one of us?”
She shrugged. “Maybe. Or maybe he just doesn’t care.”
I sank into the kitchen chair like a war survivor.
“I’m never drinking again.”
Naia smirked. “You’ll be drinking again by Friday.”
We both laughed.
But then I looked out the window, and a different ache hit me.
Lucas wasn’t the only one I’d been thinking about.
