Chapter 330
Laila’s POV
Something was happening to me and my wolf that I didn’t understand and couldn’t properly explain. I felt warm all over, like I was being wrapped in a full–bodied hug by the Moon Goddess herself, gifted with her light.
I had never felt like this before, I didn’t know what was happening. Overwhelmed, I just wanted it to stop, especially when I saw it wasn’t happening to Jason too.
“I don’t know what’s happening,” I told him.
“It’s okay,” he said. His voice was calm, but his eyes were filled with worry. “You are okay.”
“Jason…”
I glanced around, seeing it happen to the others around me. Some of them were openly gaping at me.
“Look at me,” Jason said, so I did, glancing back at him until he was all I could see. Only he filled my vision. He lifted a hand, reached for my face, and gently brushed his thumb along my cheek. I leaned into him. “So beautiful…”
He had said something like that before, and I had admonished him for it, afraid of the way it made butterflies take flight in my stomach. Now, filled with fear for different reasons, I found nothing but comfort in his touch, his affection, and how both made me feel.
Something was happening to me, but I didn’t feel alone anymore. Jason was going to stay with me. We would figure this out together. I was suddenly so sure of it.
I didn’t know how long it lasted, the glow, the compulsion to howl, but after a while, my skin returned to normal. My wolf calmed. They raised the lights on the patio, and it was over.
Jason lowered his hand, and I glanced around once more. Everyone was looking at us now, though none approached or said a word.
At least, not at first.
Soon, Alpha Richard pushed through the crowd, coming towards us.
“What is the meaning of this?” he demanded. His glare shifted from Jason to me. “Just who are you?”
“Why would that matter?” Jason said, stepping in for me, protective even in this.
“Only members of the Lycan pack have that reaction to our rituals,” Richard said. Though he answered Jason’s question, his gaze stayed on me. “Is this some kind of attempt at mockery?”
“No,” I said quickly.
“Then what?” he asked. “Why would you replicate our rituals?”
“I didn’t do it on purpose,” I said.
“That’s not possible.”
“It is. I…” I glanced at Jason, who glared at Richard, his body tense like he was ready to step in at any moment to defend me. I swallowed down my nerves. Jason would go to war for me, but I wouldn’t let him, not when words would do. Even if the truth was terrifying. “I’m an orphan. I don’t know where I’m from originally. Is it possible… If I reacted the way I did… Could I be from this pack initially?”
Richard’s anger slipped slightly in his surprise. Around us, curious whispers started. I could hear some of them.
“Who is she?”

“Could she really be pack?”
Richard asked me, “How could you not know?”
ール
“I have no memories of my past, I said. “I only know… when Jason found me…”
“She was alone in the woods,” Jason said. “We were both young children.”
The whispers grew louder.
“She’s of the right age,” one whispered. “Could she be the lost princess?”
Another shushed her. “Do not say that. The poor little girl died in the attack.”
A third countered. “They never found her body.”
“Who are they talking about?” I asked.
“It doesn’t matter who they are talking about,” Richard said. He turned to glare at the onlookers around us, who immediately quieted, some lowering their gazes in shame.
Jason inched closer to me, his arm brushing against him.
When Richard turned back to us, his glare remained. “We should speak privately.”
I didn’t know anything about a lost princess, but I was an orphan. I had dreams of war, and had been poisoned with wolfsbane, which only grew here. Reacting to the rituals seemed like the final clue to point me to my true home.
