Chapter 353

Chapter 353

Jason’s POV

Laila was adamant that the book had once been there, and I didn’t doubt her for a second. But whether it removed, or someone else did, neither of us could say.

We continued about our day, Laila meeting up once again with Alexa while I kept watching. Richard did summon us again, until the next day, when it was time for me to go with him to retrieve his surprise fo

I’d been apprehensive about the entire thing, but now that it was time to actually go, to leave Laila unpr was feeling anxious and miserable.

In our room, I held her tightly, pressing her to me as closely as I could. All she needed to say was that she me to stay, and I would stay, no questions asked, to hell with what Richard wanted. To hell if i had to figh anything else.

But Laila didn’t say a word. She just held me in return, resting her cheek to my chest. I brushed my fingers through her hair, trying to memorize ever moment of us being together.

Being here in the Lycan pack with Laila has brought some of the best and worst moments of my life. We’ve closer than we ever had before, spending so much time together. Sleeping together, and the sex was to die But, I hated how much she was in danger. She’d nearly died, and now I was just expected to leave her side a “I’m going to be okay,” she said. “I promise. You don’t have anything to worry about.”

“You can’t ask me not to worry about you,” he said. “That just isn’t possible.”

“You are the one who might really be in danger. Going off alone with Richard. Only the Goddess knows where actually wants to take you.”

“If his plan is to get rid of me, he won’t succeed,” I said. “I think even he knows that. An Alpha cannot easily down another Alphas, especially when I am younger than him.”

“Still… I think I’ll worry until you are with me again.”

“I’ll definitely be worried,” I kissed the top of her head.

“I’ll stay safe.”

“Me, too.”

I really, really didn’t want to leave her, but that argument was tired. For the sake of both of us, I had to go.

I kissed her once more, gently, on the mouth, then stepped outside. When she closed the door, I waited to hear he lock it. I had already warned her that the door could be locked and unlocked from the outside, so I waited until I heard her stick a chair under the doorknob for extra security.

Then, with regret, I forced myself away from the door and down the hallway. Both guards stayed right where they were, one stationed on either side of the door. Neither followed me.

Outside, Richard was waiting by the backseat of his sedan. The driver was holding open the door.

“There you are,” Richard said. “We should hurry. I know you are eager to get back.”

I was, and appreciated the rush, even as I resented him entirely for making me leave at all.

Chapter 353

I opened my own door and slid into the backseat, as Richard slid in from the other side. His driver close door then went to the driver’s seat and started the ignition. As we pulled out of the driveway, I looked b palace, already feeling like I’d gone too far away from Laila.

“You two are close for not being bonded,” Richard said.

“I made some mistakes in our past,” I said, “But I see Laila as my mate.”

Richard watched me. “She hasn’t agreed to a mating bond.”

“Not yet,” I admitted. “But we grow closer every day.”

Richard hummed but didn’t comment on that, instead looking out the window.
