Chapter 357
Chapter 357
Laila’s POV
I reached forward, catching Delta as she fell. I was too weak to hold myself up, let alone both of us, a down into the grass. Despite my best efforts to hold Delta against me, she rolled over, spilling onto th crawled over her, reaching for her wounds.
The blood spots had blossomed bleeding from her torso. I covered one of each with my hands, trying to pressure. But from how profusely she was bleeding, I knew those had to be silver bullets.
Delta coughed a blood dripped from her lips. Her eyes were unfocused, even as she lifted a shaking hand
“My… daughter…”
I took her hand at once, abandoning the pressure, knowing it was fruitless. My heart ached, but still I held hand with both of mine, holding to offer her what comfort I could here at the end.
It wasn’t fair. I just found her, and now she was being so viciously ripped from me. “Hold on,” I told her, tears welling in my eyes. “Help must be coming.

But it was already too late. The light was leaving her eyes. Her breathing was slow, pained. She wheezed with inward intake of air. Yet, even so, even with the pain she must have been in, when she looked at me, she smiled ever so slightly.
Peacefully.
“Mom… please,” I begged. “Don’t go.”
“You…” she wheezed. “Are… my greatest… joy…”
Then with a final breath, she slumped, her eyes closing, her hand going slack in my hold.

The Alpha forces who had done this moved closer, and a kind of fury rose up from within me, overtaking all else. My wolf was raging. Weak as it was, it wanted revenge. It filled me with a strength I didn’t know I could possess in that moment, as I jumped to my feet and growled at the approaching guards.
“Stay away from her, you monsters!” I shouted.
The guards looked at each other, confusion in their faces – but not regret. They had just killed a woman, and they
didn’t seem to care.
“We were following orders,” said one of the guards.
“She was trying to take you,” said the other,
“We protecting you,” insisted the first.
“Protecting me?” I repeated shrilly, “You killed her! How could you? You killed her!” Not fully thinking. Ilanged forward. I wasn’t even thinking. I only knew pain and fury, my heart hurt so much, I had no weapons. Even furious

my wolf was too weak to shift. But my rage curled my fingers, ready to claw if I had to.
Yet, before I could reach the guards, a needle pricked my neck. Turning, I saw Larry.
“This is for your own good,” he said, sympathy in his eyes.
He pressed the needle, injecting the liquid inside into my skin. The world swayed, my vision darkening
I saw Delta on the grass, dead. I reached for her.
