Chapter 364
My heart ached, my tears threatened once more. But, for now, knowing I wasn’t safe, I held them back. When I was with Jasori. and we were back at the park that was home, I would take time to mult over everything, to truly sit with my mother’s love and handle her loss.
Right now, I was still too far into danger to allow myself even a moment’s weakness.
Realizing there was more than one page here, I flipped to the next.
The next page was old, also handwritten but in a different, more neat script. The curve of the letters was almost meticulous
Skimming through, I quickly realized I was looking at a formal order from that night of the attack. The order was to have all of the guard sent away. Jumping to the bottom, I looked to see who signed this order, who could have demanded such a thing.
Richard.
His name was as tightly written as the rest of the letter, and clear as day.
Quickly, I skipped to the next page, and then the next.
Order after order, all marked for the days following the attack, declaring every servant an enemy of the pack, a traitor. A murder. Death records. Lists of those exiled. All of it was here.
Richard had covered up his crimes under the murder of almost everyone else in the palace. My stomach clenched, I thought I might be sick.
Carefully, I folded everything back up and returned it to the envelope. I added the picture as well, to keep it safe. Then, I set that aside and reached for the book, opening to the marked page.
The section was titled, In the Case of the Alpha’s Death….
I read quickly.
In the absence of an heir, the next of kin to the deceased Alpha would take the role. However, if an heir were to be brought forward, that blood bond must be tested, and if proved true, the role of Alpha must be transferred to the heir instead.
My hands started trembling, shaking the book as I was reading it.
I searched for the definition of an heir, needing to be sure. It stated plainly, an heir was any living child of an Alpha.
But that meant…
That could only mean…
By law, I was the true heir of the Lycan pack.
Richard must have known that, but he hadn’t said a word to me about it. Like he was keeping it from me
The attempt on my life. The fire. Delta being killed. Now my being kept prisoner here.
All of it was adding up.
I went back to the book. Yes, it claimed that if the next in line of succession was proven to have murdered the person ahead of them, then they would forfeit their right to lead.
Richard must have known that too.
Had he been behind the attempts on my life? Or had he simply been hoping that they would take my life?
The evidence in the letter was proof of his ruthlessness. And if he had murdered his brother, my tather, the Alpha, then he would have no qualms about seeing me dead either. Not if I stood in the way of his control on the pack.

With dread, I truly understand the danger I was in. Especially without Jason here to protect me, anyone I encountered could be a threat, paid off or threatened by Richard to kill me and take the blame.
