Chapter 373

Laila’s POV

The fight was planned for the day before the ceremony which gave a few days to prepare, I knew that Jason needed to train, but as he insisted on never leaving my side, he couldn’t work while I was helping to plan. 1 trusted Alexa, so I left a lot of the planning to her as I went with Jason to the gym to help him train. Though, admittedly, I helped by staying out of the way and observing.

This was not a difficult ask. Jason was built like a god, and watching him lift weights, usually shirtless was usually better than primetime.

I swore, he was flexing more than necessary, on purpose, whenever he saw me watching. Those muscles of his went on for days endlessly impressive and mouthwatering. I’d already seen some of his strength in action, but watching hitn now, only put more ideas into my mind.

How effortlessly he could hold my entire weight while he —

I shook my head, trying to clear it, but stealing a look at him, I saw him smirking, proud of himself. Frankly, with that body, he had every right to be proud, and my body gave away just what I thought about it. I wasn’t able to hide anything.

But, as much as I just wanted to admire his hot body and think of nothing else, I had other things on my mind at the same time -worry. And that worry, unfortunately, often overshadowed those good and fun lusty feelings.

Jason noticed that too, his smirk sliding away. Immediately I regretted ruining the mood, but we couldn’t just ignore the worries, the troubles that surrounded us.

“Jason,” I said, when he set down his weights for a minute of recovery.

“It’s going to be okay, Laila.”

“He’s going to cheat.” We were alone in the gym, so despite it being located inside the palace, I felt comfortable talking there. At least this much. “We have to be prepared for that.”

“It doesn’t matter if he cheats or not,” Jason said. “He’s not going to win.”

I started to shake his head. Seeing, Jason stood from the bench and approached me where I rested, leaning against the nearby wall. He lifted a hand and cupped my cheek, running his thumb along my cheekbone.

“I am faster and stronger than him. He was never true Alpha, but a man who stole his role and power,” Jason said. “He will try to cheat, but he will not succeed. Unless he can find a way to kill me, I will not lose.”

My stomach tightened. “Don’t say that.”

“I was trying to comfort you.”

“By talking about your death? You know what he’s capable of, Jason. Do not put his killing you out of the realm of possibilities.”

“Hey.” He stepped closer, entirely boxing me in with his strong body, his warmth, his masculine scent. “Nothing bad is going to happen.”

I wanted to believe him, but I couldn’t. He was training. He was taking this seriously. And I supposed there wasn’t much we could do against Richard’s cheating other than to try to be aware of it. But I still worried, and I wouldn’t be able to stop until all

this was over.

“There won’t be much time between the fight and the ceremony,” Jason said. “Focus on that, and what you want to do there Leave everything about the fight to me, okay? I’m going to win. You believe that don’t you?”

“Yes,” I said, because I had to. Because the alternative would mean that something had happened to Jason. And I just wouldn’t be able to stomach that. “Okay”
