The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate (Jason and Laila) by Caroline Above Story novel Chapter 388

Chapter 388

“She was always jealous of the good relationship I had with my brother,” Richard said. “She pushed and prodded at her husband, always demanding he be fid of me. She was threatened because my brother wanted me to be the heir. No offense to you, Laila, but it made sense for a male to take the role.”

I glowered at him, not believing anything he said. I wondered if he believed his own lies, truly thinking this, or if he was just trying to pull a fast one over on me. It wasn’t going to work.

I knew what kind of man he was, and my father likely saw itin him too. He was the kind who would murder for money and power.

“You are a liar,” I told him. “And I will never believe anything bad you have to say about my parents.”

“A pity.”

“I know you killed them. I know you sent the guards away that night.”

He hummed. “So you do.”

Slowly the music started winding down. His grip on me was fierce, his fingers biting into my skin.

“You should be a good girl, Laila. You have one last chance here. Be obedient to me and I will not have to act against you as I did your parents. If you truly know the truth, then there’s no reason to hide it. You know the consequences of this. Fall in line, Laila. Before I have to destroy you and your boyfriend just like I did your father.”

I tore myself from his grip. “I’m not afraid of you,” I told him.

His eyes flashed red, dangerous. “You should be.”

I backed away, and suddenly Jason was there beside me, his hand at my back, guiding me away from the dancefloor as other women moved in, asking my uncle for a dance, waylaying him.

“Ready?” Jason asked me.
