Chapter 390
Laila’s POV
The scene was brutal, but I didn’turn away. My uncle was a vile man, responsible for so many deaths, so much hardship. By werewolf laws, he deserved far worse than a quick death, but I was glad that Jason hadn’t stretched it out overlong.
Richard was a terrible, horrible man, but he was still my family. Inside, I mourned the family that I could have had. My parents around me, raising me to be their heir. Richard could have been a doting uncle, a supporter to help raise me, an advisor to help me make the right choices.
Instead, he chose selfishness. Brutality. He didn’t care who he hurt in his quest for power. Ever his own brother. His own niece.
He wouldn’t be remembered as a kind man. He’d be labeled a traitor. A false leader. A tyrant.
That was a legacy of his own design. He could have been a good man, but in the end, he just… wasn’t.
Jason shifted back to his human form. My uncle’s blood was drenched down the front of his chin, his suit. He spat out some onto the ground. My uncle stayed in his wolf form, never to shift out of it.
“I am Laila’s champion!” Jason announced. “I have slain the false Alpha in her name. She is your leader now!”
Curiously, the people started coming away from the walls, looking at me, at the destruction here, at Richard’s broken neck.
“Is he really dead?” they whispered. “Is this nightmare truly over?”
