KIRA POV
I probably heard “Happy birthday” fifty times anytime I left my room today, which wasn’t a whole
lot since I was getting ready for this party.
Eighteen years old. Hunter and I are officially eighteen and neither of us have found our mate. Dad says it seems to be pretty normal since the vamps killed off so many of our kind. As our kind has begun repopulating, and we’ve combined so many packs with others and created all new packs over the years it’s no longer as common to find a mate so soon in life.
However, my parents say that the Moon Goddess told them that Hunter would be a great alpha, and that I would mate with a great alpha and become an important luna.
Absolutely nothing about me makes me think that I could ever be an important luna that the Moon Goddess herself would do so much to save like she has, but clearly she sees something in me l don’t. Or possibly something that just isn’t there like she thought.
Getting ready for this big party tonight has me nervous. It’s not likely that I’ll meet my mate tonight, but the hype around this party having all of the pack alphas and soon to be alphas here specifically just for the chance that one might be my mate is enough to make me feel nauseous.
“Oh Kira, you look so beautiful!” Mom said as she stared at my reflection in the mirror.
I didn’t even know she was in my room.
“Oh, hi mom.” I said as I pulled a clip out of my mouth and finished my hair.
I stood up and turned to look at her. Tears were already streaming down her cheeks.
I rolled my eyes, “Mom, seriously. Twice already?” I joked.
She walked up and wrapped her arms around me, careful not to mess up my hair. When she pulled away, she started fidgeting with something in her hands.
She cleared her throat, “Many years ago, when I was your age, I met your father. Though I fought the idea of being his mate at first, he still found it very important to give me this necklace. It’s the first thing he ever gave me.”
She held up the necklace that had been hanging up in her closet for as long as I can remember. I decided long ago that I would give this necklace to you when you turned eighteen.
I turned and allowed her to place it around my neck. It matched my eyes. As I saw it around my neck, I quickly understood what about this necklace made dad want to give it to mom.

The very touching moment ruined as Hunter came barging into the room.
“You ready yet? Dad says we’re not able to head down to the party until princess here is ready” He gestured to me.
He always called me the princess, not because I was one as the daughter of the pack alpha, but because he liked to pick on me. It was in a loving way, but I hated the name.
He laughed as I rolled my eyes, “Kidding sis!” He said holding up his hands in mock aurrender. “You look good, I’m sure the alphas and their son’s will be lining up to meet you.
I know he’s trying to be supportive, understanding fully that this is a nerve-wracking day for me. However, the idea of them all lining up to meet me made me even more nervous.
“I wonder if either of you will be meeting your mates tonight!” Mom squealed.
I slipped on my shoes and took a breath as I tried to steady my nerves. “I guess I’m ready.” I said as
I exhaled.
As we walked out of the pack house and towards the party down by the river my nerves started to fade. They were replaced with this weird feeling, this weird warming feeling.
My wolf grew excited the closer we got to the party. Suddenly I knew. My mate is here somewhere. I looked to Hunter. He knows more people, specifically alphas, than I do.
However, when I looked at him I realized that he had a look on his face that confused me.
“Are you okay?” I mind linked him.
He looked over at me, “My mate is here.” He said.
I gave him a reassuring smile, “Mine too. Looks like this is going to be a big night.”
The look that confused me disappeared and instantly was replaced with an all too familiar look. Protective. I may be the daughter of an alpha, which you would automatically think gives me as much protection as I could ever possibly need. However, I also have my twin brother who very much so insists that he needs to be my mighty protector.
Something tells me that he learned that from my dad though. Mom says that my dad has always been protective.
“You look beautiful, Kira.” Dad says as he finally meets up with us.
He walked over and gave me a small hug.
As he pulled away he assessed my face. Then he looked over to my brother, smiled and looked
back at me.

“He’s here, isn’t he?” He said.

“Who’s here?” my mom asked quickly, excitement in her voice because she obviously knew who.
I nodded. I looked over to Hunter, “His is too.” I quickly added.
Goddess, the squeal that erupted from my mother could probably be heard through the entire pack grounds!
“Freya!” Dad quietly scolded.
“I’m sorry, I’m just so excited! Both of our kids are going to meet their mates tonight!” She said
never letting the excitement leave her face.
