COLT POV
“What’s going to happen now?” Freya asked.
“Now, you’re going to have to figure out how to wipe out the vampires.” The Goddess said.
“I don’t understand. How are we supposed to do something like that? We’re just one pack. Well, okay three packs but we’re not three full packs.” I questioned her.
She smiled, “You’ll figure it out. I think that if you adventure over to the other side of the Rocky Mountains, you’d find a few more packs that are just like you.” She answered.
“Like us?” Freya asked. “What do you mean ‘like us’?”
“Trying to survive the blood suckers?” I asked.
She nodded, “Groups that survived and banned together to try and survive. They’ve struggled, but they’ve adapted to survival living.”
More packs. That could help, and with the influx of people we could hopefully do just what the Goddess has just told us.
“I must get going. I’m not even supposed to be here. I do wish you the best.” The Goddess looked over to Freya, “I will not be available to you whenever you call for now. I will become more available to you and your daughter once she is a little older. I encourage you very strongly to work with her on learning her abilities as soon as she can understand what they are, what they do, and what they’re for.”
She hugged me goodbye. If you had told me even just the day before I met Freya that one day the Moon Goddess herself would be hugging me, physically hugging me, I would have probably thought you were very ill and possibly quite crazy.
She wrapped Freya in her arms, and I could swear I almost saw a tear fall from her eye. She
whispered something to Freya and squeezed her one last time. Then she let her go and shifted to that beautiful giant owl. The gusts of wind shook the trees as she flew away.
I felt a pang in my stomach as I watched her fly away. The Moon Goddess, our creator, came here to help my pack. What makes us so special? Why are we her favorites, as she calls us? I don’t think I’ll ever really understand that. I know that she has a special connection to our bloodline, but she
, created all of us creatures so I can’t say that I will ever understand it.
I stepped closer to Freya once the Goddess left our sight. Freya still just stood there, watching the
tree lines like she was hoping that she was going to turn around and come back.

“Are you okay, Freya?” I asked her quietly.
She nodded and leaned back into me.
“She saved my life, again.” She whispered, still not taking her eyes off the tree line.

I had a feeling something like that happened. I could feel her one minute, and then the next I couldn’t. I couldn’t feel her again until I actually saw her again, which was only just after the Goddess showed up to save our a**es. I had a feeling that she had something to do with Freya
coming back out to fight with us.
Freya is a very strong woman, but I often worry about her. I’ve actually lost her once and I almost lost her again today. If I could, I’d wrap the damn woman in bubble wrap. I love her and losing her is
not an option.
Freya and I went ahead and began helping the rest of the pack work on getting our fallen pack members moved to a different place so we can allow their families to be told properly. We want this done fairly quickly because we really want to get our people out of the bunker. Honestly, I just want to hug my children.
It took another hour, but finally the only bodies left in the open were the blood suckers. We will continue to clear those out too, but for now the pack members were the most important to get
moved.
I made sure to task Levi and Ash with getting a few more people together to make sure the families get advised right away. We made sure to take the names of everyone that fell so their families can be told as soon as possible. Sadly, many of them did have families, many with small
children.
These are the times our pack does the best at coming together and make sure that families of fallen soldiers are well taken care of through their time of grief. For the next month, so that many mothers and wives do not have to worry about cooking or cleaning, there will be people that go and clean the homes of the fallen, and all meals will be had together around the market area.
For some, this will last longer than a month and sometimes it’s not enough for us to do this. We do all that we can for our pack, and if someone comes to me or one of my men saying they need something, we make it happen somehow.
I went with a group to make sure the pack knew it was safe to come out of the bunker. Hunter and Kira ran right up to me and tackled me. I am a big man, but when my two kids tackle me, I make sure to go down like they’re bigger than I am. The giggles that leave them when I do it melts my heart.

We quickly went to find Freya, who was working on getting a fire going inside the pack house so the kids wouldn’t be cold tonight. This time of year is funky when it comes to the weather. It’s warm during the day and pretty damn chilly at night. Once the sun goes down, we usually make sure to get a fire going so that the pack house is warm through the night. However, tonight we were under attack so that didn’t happen as early as we wanted.
Right now, it’s quite chilly and all I want to do is grab a warm drink and snuggle with my kids in front of the fire until they pass out. If I know Freya at all, it’s exactly what she wants too.
