172 The New Beginning
FREYA POV

Tonight, both of my children were blessed with meeting their mates. Not that I care as much as Colt does, but the official purebred bloodline will live on through Maximus and Kira.
The celebrations tonight ended gradually for most, but for our family they continued until Hunter ended up passing out by the fire. I instructed him to take Olivia back to his room and without being told Kira and Maximus split off, heading toward the pack house.
Colt stumbled his way back to the pack house eventually. Ifound myself alone, sitting at the fire just thinking. Our family has gone through a lot in our years together. I shouldn’t have even been a part of most of these things. The only reason I am is because the Moon Goddess favored us enough to save my life not only once, but twice.
“Has it been a life worth living, my dear?” The all too familiar and very missed voice said from
beside me.
I turned to the space next to me by the fire and found the beautiful glow of the Moon Goddess looking back at me.
I smiled and looked back to the fire, “Yes it sure has. Thank you for letting me live it.”
“One day soon your daughter is going to be a mighty Luna standing beside her Alpha. Your son is going to have a bunch of children with his Luna, and he will also be a mighty Alpha. The bloodline of my family all those years ago will live on and the future of all shifters alike will live on because of them.” She answered.
After a few minutes she turned to me and said, “You will have Hunter here for the rest of your life. Kira will be leaving and will not regularly return. Right now, she wants to keep coming home. The idea of being away from you all is hard on her.”
I didn’t understand why she was saying this, but I could tell what she had to say was important and
necessary.
“Kira is going to want to be here with you, but she’s going to learn quickly that the pack she’s going to needs her. They’ve not had a Luna for a very long time and she’s going to heal a pack that is otherwise quite broken.” As she said this, I understood what she was saying.
I nodded, “Will you be with her as she goes through this change then?” I asked.
She held off a moment or two before she finally answered, “Yes. I’ve been away for a long time trying to get the rest of the world ready for what’s to come. Now, it is time for me to be with her.”

Hearing that put my concerns to rest. If I couldn’t be there with her to help her through the challenges she’s about to face as a Luna of a pack that hasn’t had the strength of a Luna in a long time, then the best thing I could wish for is that the Goddess will be with her.
We sat there staring into the fire a little longer until I suddenly realized she was gone. In the place she sat was a single white owl feather, a reminder of her power. These very feathers are what saved my life twice.
KIRA POV
At first when I woke up, I forgot about having a mate. All I could think of is how great I slept that night. Then the scent hit me, his scent. A rush of all my feelings came flooding in. It was almost as if on cue the bathroom door opened on the other side of the room and out walked a naked
Maximus with only a towel covering his manhood.
And here I thought the towels were large, but it looked like a tiny hand towel on him.
We slept together through the night, but Maximus did specify that he didn’t want sex until we were married and the mate bond between us was solidified. I was very much so okay with that. I could
tell even just sleeping next to him felt different. The mate bond is different.
“It’s not far to Wildwood. I was thinking we could eat breakfast with your family, and I could help you pack up in time to head out this afternoon.” As he dropped the towel and began putting on his pants I couldn’t help but just stare at him. “Does that sound good to you?”
The idea of leaving home makes me quite nauseous, but at that moment I couldn’t think much
past the rim of his pants and the muscles leading up to his chest. So, all I did was nod.
After breakfast we headed back to my room and began packing. I hated the idea of leaving home, but somehow Maximus made it all seem very exciting.
Packing up my entire life into a few bags was rather depressing, but I guess it’s always been the
plan since my whole life has been preparing for this moment.
My parents walked down with us to the cars. The walk down seemed to go by fast as my mom
nervously gave me an entire crash course on being a pack Luna even though she’s been teaching
me forever. She also told me that she wants me to commune with the Goddess as soon as
possible when I get there.
“She told me she’s with you Kira. It’s the only ability you’ve not mastered and if you can’t get it
down
you send word, and I’ll come help you. Since she was gone I couldn’t help you much with that one, but now that I know she’s here I know that you need to master that ability quickly.” She said as
she kept playing with a feather in her hand.

Before we got in the car, she handed me the feather, “This is the feather of the Moon Goddess. When you see her, she will be a woman of beauty you can’t quite imagine. However, it’s her feathers from her shifter form that saved my life.”
The feather was beautiful, the whitest I’ve ever seen before.
