When Thomas said Edward wanted to invite the Irvine family over for dinner to catch up, Chloe couldn’t help but scoff
That old geezer is still the same as ever,’ Chloe thought to herself Still acting all high and mighty.
Just as Chloe was about to refuse, lan cut in before her. “Tell my grandfather there’s really no need.”
Thomas looked uneasy and stayed put. “Mr. Hamilton, Edward gave me strict orders. Maybe you could talk Ms. Irvine into coming?”
Frank hesitated, then said to Ian, “Ian, it was wrong of us to break off the engagement so suddenly. Even though it’s all in the past, we never actually apologized to your parents. Since your grandfather reached out, we should at least go see him.”
As soon as Frank finished, Thomas quickly added, “Mr. Irvine is right. I’ll go let Edward know right away.”
Ian’s eyes were intense, locked onto Chloe, his expression impossible to read.
Chloe stood there, falling into a thoughtful silence.
She knew all too well what kind of men the Hamilton family were.
But since Edward had come knocking, even if she turned him down now, he’d just show up again next time.
So, she figured she might as well lay it all out on the table and settle things once and for all.
Chloe pulled Ian aside into a private room and laid it all out. “Ian you’ve seen how it is. The closer you get to us, the more your grandfather gets worked up.
“So, for everyone’s sake, maybe it’s best if you keep your distance from us from now on.”
Ian’s voice was as gentle as he could make it as he said to Chloe, Chloe, just because my family feels that way doesn’t mean I do.
He promised, “Don’t worry. I promise I won’t let my family give you any trouble.”
He’d failed to protect her in his previous life.
This time, he swore, he’d never let anything hurt her, not even a scratch.
Chloe couldn’t get through to Ian. She just said, “Guess we’ll see onight if they’re going to make things hard for us.”
A few hours later, Chloe and her parents arrived at the hotel as promised.
Jan came over right away. “Where’s Carl?”
Chloe shot back, “We’re not here to eat, so why would I bring him?”
Jan was left speechless.
Standing at the doorway, Chloe pecked into the private room and saw only three people inside It was Edward, Shane, and Miranda. She noticed Mia was missing, too.
Miranda came over to say hi
Ian invited Chloe’s parents inside.
Edward and Shane sat there with their noses in the air, acting all doof and superior

Miranda glanced back at her husband and father-in-law and couldn’t help but sigh in frustration.
Ian stepped up and pulled out chairs for Chloe’s parents. “Mr. Irvine, Mrs. Irvine, please have a seat.”
Chloe walked over and shoved the chairs right back in, ignoring an’s gesture.
She said, “Seeing how Edward and Shane are acting, it doesn’t look like we’re really here for dinner, does it?”
Chloe stared straight at Edward. “No need to sit down. If you’ve got something to say, just say it.”
Edward’s sinister eyes fixed on Chloe.

His voice was harsh as he said, “The wedding’s off. So why is the vine family still accepting gifts from Ian? Do you think he’s just your family’s personal ATM?”
Frank stepped forward, about to speak, but Ian cut him off. “Grandpa, calling off the engagement was my idea. The Irvine family never took anything from me. Where did you even hear that?”
Edward snorted. “I won’t even get into all the stuff you bought on your business trip to Marlovia, but what about that over 30 million you spent at the charity auction? Who did you give that to?”
Ian’s face was cold as he shot back, “Grandpa, it’s my money. I can spend it however I want and give it to whoever I choose. You have no right to butt in!”
SLAM!
Before Ian could finish, Shane slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet.
He jabbed a finger at Ian, his face red with fury. “Back then, you embezzled company money and faked the accounts just to bail out the Irvine family. Don’t think you fooled us for a second. We know exactly what you did!”
As soon as Shane said that, the Irvine family all looked stunned.
Miranda’s gaze shifted between Ian and Chloe.
She couldn’t believe her son had actually embezzled company money just to help the Irvine family.
Frank and Jill exchanged a worried glance, both looking troubled
Ian kept his cool, face unreadable. “Dad, you say I embezzled company money. Got any proof?”
Shane’s forehead veins popped as he snapped, “Back then, your grandfather and I locked down your accounts because we didn’t trust you with your own money. You couldn’t get your hands on a single cent.”
He continued, “The Irvine family was drowning in debt, and you had no other way out, so you took cash straight from the company. The timing and the numbers line up exactly. You might fool everyone else, but you can’t fool me!”
Jan fired back, “Unless you’ve got hard evidence, Dad, I’m not admitting to anything.”
Chloe turned to fan and couldn’t help but frown.
The year the Irvine family went bankrupt, she had just started college.
The day the creditors came knocking, she went crying to lan.
Back then, Ian was still a student, studying business under his da, and had zero say in the company.
He told her he had some money stashed away and would quietly cover the Irvine family’s debts for her, but made het promise not to tell anyone.

That money didn’t come from his own account; it was company funds he secretly used to pay off the Irvine family’s debts.
Shane jabbed a finger at Frank, his voice harsh. “Every time your family moves, you make my son help out. Do you even realize how valuable his time is? Can you really afford to ask for his help?”
Frank was furious. “Mr. Hamilton, that’s just too much. We’re grateful for everything Ian’s done for us, but the Irvine family has never tried to take advantage of your family!”
Ian slapped a bank card down on the table.
Staring straight at his father, he said, “Helping the Irvine family pay off their debts was my own doing. They’ve already paid me back in full, with interest. If you don’t believe me, feel free to check the card yourself.”
Shane scoffed, not buying it for a second, “Back when the Irvine family went bankrupt, they were so broke that they were practically fighting beggars for a spot under the bridge. Where did they even get the money to pay you back?”
“Dad, that’s enough! Don’t go too far,” Ian snapped, his voice icy.
His cold, sharp tone cut Shane off before he could say another word.
Chloe blurted out, “You’re such a snob.”
Shane jabbed a finger at her. “You got the nerve to insult me?”
Chloe shot back, “I’m not planning to marry your son, so what if insult you?”
Before Chloe could finish, Shane snatched up a glass from the table and hurled it straight at her.
Jill and Miranda both screamed in shock, but Ian shielded Chloe with his own body, taking the hit himself.
Not even caring about the pain in his back, Ian looked her up and down, worried she might be hurt.
Chloe shook her head.
Even though lan took the hit for her, Chloe didn’t thank him one bit.
‘Paying for his old man’s mess serves him right, she thought.
Chloe snapped, “You two old fossils, listen up. With you guys running the show, lan’s never getting married, not in this lifetime!”
