The natural joy in Chloe’s eyes made lan’s heart ache a little.
lan walked up to Chloe.

Just as he was about to speak, someone called from the hallway. Dr. Irvine, Mr. Jordan wants to see you in his office.”
Chloe answered quickly and grabbed the bag from Ian.
She handed him the stuff she’d gotten ready for him that morning, then rushed out before Ian could even get a word in.
After Chloe left, Ian sat alone in the lounge, silent and lost in thought for a long time.
Ever since his time-traveling, it felt like everyone around him had changed.
But at the same time, it was like everything stayed the same, and he was the only one who’d changed.
A few days later, in the afternoon, at Hamilton Manor, Edward sat in the living room with Shane and Miranda, all looking serious.
Thomas reported the investigation results to Edward. “Andrea and her son haven’t left Tecnovia, and Ian is on a business trip in Marlovia. They haven’t met.”
Edward nodded in satisfaction. “As long as Ian isn’t married, we can’t let our guard down.”
Shane added, “You’re right, Dad. The heir of the Hamilton family can never marry Andrea.”
Miranda sat next to Shane, a flicker of doubt crossing her mind.
‘Ian keeps refusing to get married or even get engaged. Maybe Andrea isn’t the real reason?’ Miranda wondered.
Edward turned to Miranda. “When Ian gets back from his trip, invite Mrs. Goodwin and Miss Goodwin over for a visit. Try to spend more time with them from now on.”
It was obvious what Edward wanted. Miranda nodded. “I’ll do my best.”
Just because she didn’t argue with Edward didn’t mean she was actually going to do what he said.
The heiress of the Goodwin family, Margaret, was young but already had impressive skills and ambition that rivaled any
man.
Women like her were perfect for the business world, but not exactly cut out for marriage.
Besides, lan had rarely shown interest in Chloe before, but lately he’d been taking the initiative. As his mom, Miranda was well aware of it.
The day lan returned from his business trip to Kingsford, Miranda, following Edward’s instructions, invited Margaret and her mother over to Hamilton Manor.
Edward told Thomas to go pick lan up from the airport himself and bring him straight back to the Hamilton Manor.
That evening. Thomas walked into the living room with his head down. “Mr. Hamilton, Ian-”
Seeing Thomas hesitate, Miranda said in front of Margaret and her mother, “There are no outsiders here. Just say it.”

Thomas still kept his voice low. “Mrs. Hamilton, Ian went straigh to the Irvine residence after he got off the plane.”
Miranda shot Margaret and her mother an apologetic glance.
Shane’s face darkened on the spot. “Go bring that bastard back here right now!”
Thomas hesitated.
Margaret jumped in to break the awkward silence. “Mr. Hamilton, it’s really nice of you to invite us over. My parents and I are happy to be here. If Ian’s busy, he doesn’t have to rush back just for us.”
Margaret sounded polite and confident, but one could tell from her face that she wasn’t exactly comfortable.
lan knew she was coming to Hamilton Manor, but he still went straight to the Irvine family’s place instead.
‘Guess Ian’s feelings about me are pretty obvious, Margaret thought. ‘Looks like there’s no point hoping for an engagement between lan and me, or for the Goodwin and Hamilton families to team up.
After Margaret and her mother left, Edward slammed his cup down in fury. “The future head of Hamilton Group, running after a family that’s lost everything? It’s absolutely ridiculous!”
Shane called Ian himself, demanding that he come home immediately.
At the same time, Ian got a call from his dad and left the Irvine residence.
Once they were in the car, Mitchell couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Hamilton, didn’t you say you were going to wait for Ms. Irvine to get off work before leaving?”
Ian tightened his grip on the jewelry box. “Back to Hamilton Manor.”
Mitchell quickly told Robert to drive.
Not long after Ian left, Chloe got home from work.
When Chloe saw all those pricey health products stacked up in the living room, she couldn’t help but ask, “Dad, Mom, did someone come over today?”
Frank and Jill exchanged a look.
Jill let out a sigh. “Ian brought all this. Your dad and I told him not to, but he just wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
The stuff was already there, and lan was gone, so Chloe didn’t say anything else.
Chloe turned to her parents. “Dad, Mom, we’re just staying here for now. I’m busy with work, so if you get a chance, check out some places. Something with a balcony or a little yard would be perfect.”
Renting was just temporary.
Her little brother was starting ninth grade next year, and she didn’t want him staying in the dorms anymore.
Plus, her parents were getting older. Her dad loved gardening and keeping birds, and her mom liked keeping things tidy and hanging laundry outside.
It didn’t have to be a big place, just somewhere with a small yard where her parents could relax in their old age.
Before she knew it, it was mid-October, and Chloe was at work.
Her parents told her they’d finally picked out a place.

Chloe took advantage of her lunch break to go check out the house with her parents.

The place was right in the heart of the city, a first-floor duplex with front and back yards, fully renovated and move-in ready. And the price was below market value.
Chloe, always believing that if it was too cheap, there had gotta be a catch, quietly pulled her parents out of the sales office. “Dad, Mom, the layout must be off in this place. We really shouldn’t buy it.”
Jill scoffed, “This is the crown jewel of the building, in the best location. It’s brand new, no one’s ever lived here, and the layout hasn’t been messed with at all. Stop making things up.”
Chloe stuck to her guns. “If it’s way cheaper than the market price, there’s gotta be something shady going on. I’ve heard places like that always have some kind of bad history.”
“You silly girl!” Frank poked Chloe on the forehead. “Ian got us this insider deal from the developer.”
Chloe frowned. “Wait, when did you guys tell him we were house hunting?”
Jill explained, “Your dad and I checked out a ton of places, but none of them felt right. Then we bumped into Ian and mentioned it to him. Turns out, he’s got connections with the developer here, so we came over and instantly fell for this place.”
Frank chimed in, “The developer was ready to hand us the house for free just because of Ian’s influence, but we turned it down. We only asked for a bit of a discount off the market price. Never thought they’d actually slash it by half!”
Chloe couldn’t help feeling conflicted.
Seeing how excited and hopeful her parents looked, she made up her mind on the spot. “If you guys like it, let’s go for it.”
