Chloe’s birthday landed on a regular weekday, so she went to work as usual. After work, she got held up for a bit. Running late, Chloe didn’t even have time to freshen up, so she just rushed straight to the hotel.

While waiting for the elevator, Chloe unexpectedly bumped into her high school classmate, Millie Clark.

Back when the Irvine family was still rich, Millie and Chloe were not just classmates. They were best friends. But after the Irvine family went bankrupt, Millie started looking down on Choc.

Millie saw Chloe as nothing more than a fallen heiress, no longer worthy of her friendship. She cut Chloe off completely. Worse still, Millie even tried to get everyone else to stay away from Chloe, too.

‘Every time I see someone like Millie, it just spoils the day,’ Chloe thought, feeling her mood sour instantly.

Chloe frowned when she spotted Vivian standing next to Millie. The two were arm in arm, looking as close as real sisters. Vivian hadn’t met Andrea yet, and obviously, she didn’t know Chloe either.

Chloe curled her lips in sarcasm. ‘Birds of a feather really do flock together,’ she thought.

The elevator doors opened, and as Chloe tried to step in, Millie stuck out her arm, blocking her way with a smug look. As they jostled each other, the elevator doors slid shut.

Chloe, fuming, shoved Millie away hard. “Millie, are you crazy or what?”

Millie gave Chloe a once-over, her lips curling in contempt. “Chipe, you might’ve been pampered since you were a kid, but the Irvine family’s been bankrupt for years.

“I know it’s hard to go from riches to rags, but honestly, you can afford a place like this anymore,” Millie said.

Vivian snickered. “Millie, look at her. Dressed like that, she probably struggles just to get by. If she’s here, it’s not to spend money. Working as a janitor, scrubbing toilets, would totally match her vibe.”

Millie and Vivian kept egging each other on, their eyes full of provocation and their whole attitude dripping with arrogance.

Chloe inhaled sharply, trying to steady her nerves. In a flash, she swung her hand and landed two loud, stinging slaps on each of their faces.

Millie and Vivian were left speechless, frozen in place, completely shocked by Chloe’s sudden attack.

Millie’s eyes widened. She shouted, “Chloe, do you still think youre the princess of the Irvine family? Did you seriously just slap me?”

Vivian, furious and humiliated, snapped, “Do you have any idea who I am? I swear, I’ll make you pay for this!”

Chloe jabbed a finger at both of them, her voice icy. “Run your mouth, get slapped.”

Millie and Vivian exchanged a glance, then both swung their hands to slap Chloe back.

The next moment, two even louder slaps echoed, knocking Mill and Vivian straight to the floor.

Mia stepped up and gave each of them a hard kick. “Who the he do you think you are, messing with Chloe?”

Millie and Vivian were just about to fight back, but when they looked up and realized it was Mia, the Hamilton family’s heiress, they instantly lost their nerve.

Mia was famous for her wild streak among those who knew her. Millie and Vivian wouldn’t even dream of fighting back.

Chloe glanced at the two, who dared not raise their heads. She pulled Mia close, then looked past her to greet. “Miranda.”

The elevator doors opened, and Miranda, bag on her arm, ushered Chloe and Mia inside with effortless grace, not even bothering to look at the two still squatting on the floor.

Millie, still clutching her face in disbelief, scrambled to her feet. Didn’t her wedding to lan get called off? Why is she still so close with the Hamiltons?”

Vivian leaned in and whispered, “Let’s go check it out ourselves

The two of them rushed into another elevator, hurrying after them.

Chloe, Miranda, and Mia showed up together at the birthday venue. Once inside, Miranda made a beeline straight for Chloe’s parents.

White rose petals were everywhere. From the stage to the champagne tower, even the floor was blanketed in them. One entire wall was covered in white roses, bathed in dreamy lighting The whole place was pure romance, like something out of a fairytale.

If it weren’t for the sign with her name front and center, Chloe almost thought she’d crashed someone else’s party.

Most of her friends were already there, hanging out in little groups and chatting. Some folks spotted Chloe and came up to greet her, while others acted like she wasn’t even there.

And then there were the ones who went straight for Miranda and Mia, putting on their best fake smiles and sucking up, desperate to score points with them.

Chloe watched it all unfold, just smiling quietly to herself.

Back then, even after the Irvine family went bankrupt, whenever it was her and Ian’s joint birthday, all their friends, hers and his, would still show up and mingle together, just like old times.

But ever since the news broke that her wedding to Ian was off, most people’s attitude toward her changed in an instant.

Most folks here were probably just hoping to catch Ian’s attention. It was her birthday, and if people didn’t bother with her, she didn’t bother with them either.

Chloe thought, ‘Honestly, if it were up to me, I’d much rather just sit around the table with my family, sharing a small birthday cake.

Blair dragged Chloe over to a quiet corner. “Chloe, the whole place is covered in white roses for your birthday. Don’t tell me Jan’s planning to pop the question again tonight.”

Mia slipped in behind them, grinning. “Chloe, do you think my rother’s got some kind of surprise up his sleeve for you?”

Chloe just thought to herself, ‘Well, I honestly have no clue if las planning any surprises for me. But I do have a major surprise lined up for him. The person I’m waiting for should be here any minute now!

While the three of them were chatting, Eric came in, leading his little sister Sophie by hand.

Chloe walked up to greet him with a smile. “Hey, Eric.”

Eric handed Chloe a gift, then gave Sophie a gentle nudge to remind her to be polite and say hello.

Sophie bounced right up to Chloe, her smile blooming like a flower. “Chloe, you’re so pretty! Are you going to be my future sister-in-law?”

Chloe felt a little embarrassed. “Sophie, trust me, I’m nowhere near good enough for Eric.”

Eric quickly apologized to Chloe. “Our little sister’s been spoiled by the three of us. She just blurts things out. Don’t mind her.”

Sophie pouted sweetly, clinging to Chloe’s arm. “Chloe, my brother never goes to girls’ birthday parties. You’re literally the first. If I had to bet, you’re totally destined to be my future sister-in-law!”

Speechless, Chloe found herself in an awkward silence.

Eric slapped a hand over his little sister’s mouth and grabbed her by the collar, dragging her out of the room like she was a sack of potatoes.

Blair leaned in and whispered in Chloe’s ear, “Chloe, the famous Mr. Eric Jordan is actually pretty great. Maybe you should think about it?”

Chloe shot Blair a glare over her shoulder.

She’d been hurt by Ian more times than she could count. After everything she’d been through, she was way past being naive about love. Love’s not something you can grab or control. Trying to force it is pointless.

Patrick strolled up to Chloe. “Hey, Chloe, any idea why Ian isn’t here yet?”

Before Patrick could even finish, everyone started making a fuss teasing and getting loud.

“He’s here!” someone shouted.

Chloe followed the crowd’s gaze and saw Ian walk in, dressed to the nines in an expensive suit, making a slow, graceful entrance. As soon as Ian walked in, the crowd swarmed him, surrounding him in a flash.

“Ian, what did you get Chloe this year?” someone called out.

“We’ve all been waiting forever! Come on, show us what you got for her.” Another voice chimed in.

The crowd started teasing and cheering again, making a big fuss

Ian’s gaze cut through the crowd, locking onto Chloe. Seeing this everyone quickly cleared a path, and Ian walked straight up to Chloe, with all eyes on him. His deep eyes were fixed on Cloe’s face, not looking away for a second.

He held out the gift to her. “Chloe, happy birthday.”

“Thank you, Jan,” Chloe said softly.

Chloe accepted the gift graciously in front of everyone, giving I all the respect he deserved. The gift box was so big and heavy that Chloe almost lost her grip on it.
