Ian suddenly brought up the 20 million, catching Andrea completely off guard and leaving her stunned.
Everyone’s weird stares snapped Andrea back to her senses. Shock flashed in her eyes as she looked at Ian, but she looked so wronged. Her eyes rimmed red, and she looked around at everyone’s odd stares before turning to Ian.
Andrea said, “lan, your grandfather made me take that 20 million. He threatened my family to force my hand. Believe it or not, I never spent a single cent of it.” Then Andrea ran out crying her face buried in her hands.
Andrea threw all the blame on Edward in front of everyone before storming out. They had no choice but to believe she must’ve had her reasons.
As Andrea walked past Chloe, Chloe reached out on reflex to stop her. But before Chloe’s hand could even brush Andrea’s sleeve, Ian caught her wrist and pulled her to his side.
The two of them locked eyes in silence. Chloe shot Ian a questioning look. His expression was as dark as a thunderstorm sky.
Seeing the mood turn awkward, Patrick jumped in to break the tension. “Hey, it’s just a little hiccup. Don’t let it get to you. Ian, Chloe, come on over and cut the cake.”
Ian locked onto Chloe’s wrist and turned, leading her away. Chloe tried to pull free, but Ian kept her close, dragging her along.
Chloe said, “Ian, where are you taking me? We haven’t even cut the cake yet.”
Ian said, “If you want cake, I’ll make it for you every day.”
‘From the start, it never crossed her mind to spend this birthday with me.’ Ian’s face was stormy as he glanced back at Chloe, a sudden pang stabbing through his chest. He quickened his pace, practically dragging Chloe into the car.
With Ian and Chloe gone, everyone else was left awkwardly staring at each other. People started whispering and gossiping. some even flocking to Mia and Patrick for the latest scoop.
Miranda kept apologizing over and over to Chloe’s parents, clearly feeling bad about it. And Chloe’s parents looked really anxious and urged Carl to call Chloe to see what was going on.
Eric never expected to get caught up in all this drama just by coming to a birthday party. He politely said his goodbyes to Miranda and Chloe’s parents, then took his little sister and slipped out early.
Patrick waved everyone over to the cake. “Come on, we’re all her anyway. Let’s dig in, have some fun, and just ignore them.”
With Patrick leading the charge, the party quickly got lively aga
Miranda asked Mia to drive Chloe’s parents and Carl home, while she rushed back to Hamilton Manor.
Miranda couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Edward had people watching Andrea. How come he didn’t get a heads-up when she came back to the country?’
After Miranda left, Patrick stuck around to smooth things over. What was supposed to be a great birthday party just fizzled out, with nothing more to say.
Meanwhile, a black luxury car roared down the highway out to the suburbs.
Chloe, sitting in the passenger seat, had gone pale with fear. “Ian are you out of your mind?”

Ian was stone-faced, staring straight ahead, gripping the steering wheel as he was about to snap it in half. The veins on the back of his hands bulged, stark against his skin from how hard he was holding on.
Chloe’s eyes were wide, locked onto Ian, her hands clutching the seatbelt across her chest.
In her previous life, just a week after Ian died, she was driving home alone at night, dazed. Suddenly, she thought she saw lan standing by the roadside, holding a child. Then she freaked out and crashed her car.
Looking at lan now, Chloe couldn’t shake the feeling she might get herself killed on the road again. She shouted, “Pull over! Do you hear me?”
lan kept his lips pressed together, saying nothing, his eyes locked on the road ahead, not even glancing her way.
Chloe just squeezed her eyes shut and braced herself for the worst. She had no idea how much time had passed when the car screeched to a sudden, jarring halt.
Still shaken, Chloe looked outside. All she could see was a vast, desolate lake stretching out under the pitch-black night sky. The perfect spot to dump a body. She swallowed hard, then turned to look at Ian.
Ian looked agitated, almost on edge. He unbuckled his seatbelt, loosened his collar, then fished out a cigarette from the pack and bit down on it.
Just as he was about to light up, he caught Chloe’s wary stare. Without a word, he flicked the unlit cigarette out into the darkness. The next second, Ian suddenly leaned in, closing the distance between them.
Chloe pushed hard against his chest, trying to shove him away. She snapped, “Ian, are you out of your mind?”
Ian didn’t say a word. He just reached over and unbuckled Chloe’s seatbelt with practiced ease. His silence made her even
more nervous.
Freaking out, Chloe grabbed him by the collar. “Ian, say something! Just tell me, what are you trying to do?”
lan braced one hand against the back of Chloe’s seat, his other hand clamped down on her shoulder. His eyes were rimmed red. He locked eyes with her and shot back, “What the hell do you want?”
Their eyes met, their breathing all over the place.
Chloe hesitated for a second before saying, “I was just trying to have a normal birthday, then out of nowhere, some random woman barges in for you, and you drag me all the way out here. Seriously, what did I do wrong?”
In her previous life, she and Ian had cut all ties. This time, she just wanted to keep things simple between them. But that looked impossible now.
Chloe stared quietly into Ian’s dark, intense eyes, her gaze steady She waited for him to say something first. They were so close, eyes locked, the air between them thick with tension as silence stretched on.
The calm Chloe made lan feel strangely nervous. He thought, ‘All that had passed between them was nothing but pain. Every memory is a scar for her. For him, it was all remorse and orment.”
Chloe was waiting for him to speak first. If he laid it all out, she’d use that moment to end things between them once and for all, just like she did in the past.
Ian’s grip on Chloe’s shoulder slowly loosened, and he slumped back into his seat, feeling completely drained. He rested his hands on the steering wheel, staring out the window, his lips pressed together in silence.
Chloe could feel Ian’s mood shift. Something about him just wasn’t right. She pulled out her phone, ready to check in with her parents. But before she could even hit dial, he suddenly grabbed her phone.
