Ian walked over to Edward. He explained, “Grandpa, it wasn’t me who brought her back.”

Ian looked at his parents and said, “Mom, Dad, don’t worry. I’m done with that woman for good.”

Shane snorted. “You’d better keep your word.”

Miranda wasn’t buying it. “She just got back and showed up at the exact hotel where the party was. If you didn’t tell her, how on earth did she know where to go?”

Ian looked down, masking his emotions. He was absolutely sure Chloe was the mastermind behind Andrea crashing the birthday party.

That day, Chloe had asked him to go to the seafood market with her. When he saw Xander and Melody, he instantly got what Chloe was planning.

He figured Edward had people keeping tabs on Andrea abroad, so he thought she couldn’t just fly back whenever she wanted, so he didn’t give it another thought.

But he never expected Andrea to actually manage to evade the people who were supposed to be watching

her.

He knew exactly what his family was worried about. But there was no way he could explain to them that he and Chloe both had memories from their previous lives.

And there was no way he could tell them that Chloe was the one trying to set him up with Andrea again. She deliberately gave a tip-off to Xander and Melody, and that’s how Andrea ended up coming back.

He promised, “Don’t worry, what I thought before doesn’t matter anymore. Even if I end up single forever, that woman Andrea is never an option for me.”

Edward let out a quiet sigh of relief. “Ian, I gave you 15 percent of my shares because I trust you. You’re the only heir to the Hamilton family.

“Andrea was never good enough for you, not before, not now. You need to be serious about marriage.

“If you can cut Andrea out of your life. I won’t interfere with whatever happens between you and Chloe.” With that, Edward got up and left.

Ian kept his eyes down, saying nothing. Edward’s already decided to stay out of it. But even if the entire Hamilton family got down on their knees and begged, Chloe still wouldn’t come back to him.

Shane said, “Ian, if you can really cut Andrea out of your life for good, I’ll let you handle everything in the company. And whatever decisions you make for this family, I’ll back you up all the way, no questions

asked.”

Ian shot him a skeptical look. “Dad, you really mean that?”

Shane replied. “A real man stands by his word.”

lan said. Then you’d better start treating Mom right, or I’ll tell her to leave you. Alright. You guys get some rest. I’m heading out.

Miranda felt a wave of relief as she watched her son walk away. As long as her son stopped thinking about Andrea, she’d finally be able to stop worrying.

Shane jabbed a finger at Ian’s back and yelled, “I’m your father! Is that really how you talk to your dad?”

lan strode off without looking back. He opened the car door and tilted his head back, gazing up at the sky above the garden. The sunlight poured down, chasing away all the gloom.

From the way Edward and Shane had acted just now, Ian finally understood. He realized then that their constant attempts to control his life had largely been a consequence of his own doing.

Andrea had “saved” him once, and he’d always seen her in a good light, convinced he understood her. The more Edward and Shane tried to control him, the more he rebelled and refused to listen.

It wasn’t until he realized he’d lost Chloe for good that he truly understood just how much she meant to him. As for Edward and Shane, they only came to their senses after losing him. But realizing the truth after everything’s gone is pointless.

From now on, he wasn’t just going to turn his own life around. He was going to help his family change for the better, too. He swore to make sure everyone close to him would live well and be truly happy.

Meanwhile, at Kingsford International Airport. Blair grabbed Chloe’s suitcase. “Honestly, having a few big- shot brothers around isn’t the worst thing. Beats cutting each other off for life and acting like sworn enemies.”

Chloe looked apologetic. “It wasn’t easy for you to stay a couple extra days, and I still didn’t get to treat you properly.”

Blair couldn’t care less about all that. She was just here to gossip. “Chloe, that woman who showed up at the party, she’s troublesome. Better keep your guard up around her.”

Chloe nodded, taking the advice. “Don’t worry, I won’t have anything to do with her.”

Andrea had plenty of ambition, but her schemes were pretty basic. All of Chloe’s pain stemmed from Ian. No one else had anything to do with it. Chloe had never once viewed Andrea as a real threat.

After seeing Blair off, Chloe headed straight back to the hospital.

At two in the afternoon, Eric came over and handed Chloe a cute little bag with cartoon characters on it. “These are some handmade fruit candies that Sophie made. I brought you a few.”

“Thanks, Eric,” Chloe said. She took the bag, popped a candy into her mouth, and grinned. “Mmm, these are delicious.”

Eric couldn’t help but laugh at how adorable Chloe looked. “I’ve postponed your official start date after your internship.

“Next week, you’ll be assigned training in Tecnovia and are expected to return around the end of the year. Is that okay with you?”

Chloe nodded. “Yeah, that’s fine.”

Eric raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you even going to ask why I’m doing this?”

Chloe trusted Eric completely. “If you’re the one arranging it, I know it’s for my own good. I’ll do whatever you say, no questions asked.”

In her previous life, with Eric by her side, Chloe’s career was a breeze. She never hit a snag. Eric was her fairy godmother, and whenever he gave her advice, she took.it to heart.

Chloe was just about to finish work when Miranda called, inviting her to dinner tonight at seven.

Chloe arrived at a restaurant downtown right on time. She walked into the dining room and joined Miranda and Mia.

Mia stood up, pulled out a chair for Chloe, and said warmly. “Hello, Chloe.”

Chloe greeted Miranda and Mia, and she sat down next to Mia.

Mia blurted out, “Chloe, Mom and I brought you here because we wanted to ask how your talk with Ian went last night.”

Chloe was completely honest with Miranda and Mia. “Miranda, Mia, Ian and I have already talked it out. We both feel more like siblings than anything else. We’ve agreed to really value our family ties.”

Meanwhile, at the Royal Court Club, bodyguards guarded the door of the private room located at the very end of the second-floor hallway. Within, Mitchell stood respectfully behind Ian.

lan wore black slacks and a white shirt, the top two buttons casually undone. He leaned forward a bit, elbows propped on his knees, his right hand holding a wine glass.

After a few polite knocks, the bodyguard cracked the door open halfway. “Mr. Hamilton, Ms. Sherman is here.”

Mitchell glanced at Ian, then nodded to the bodyguard at the door. Andrea was let in immediately.

Andrea slipped inside the room, looking a little nervous. When she saw Ian lounging on the couch with a drink in hand, she hurried over with a wounded look. “Ian,” she called out.

Mitchell stepped forward and cut her off.

Andrea stared at lan, completely stunned. “Seriously, Ian? What’s all this about?”
