Chapter 347
Chapter 347
About ten minutes later, Eric and Andrea sat in Eric’s office. Eric looked at Andrea and said, “Ready to talk now?”
Andrea, trying to please him, flashed a sweet smile and asked, “Eric, have you and Dr. Irvine been fighting lately?”
Eric shot her a sharp look. “What makes you say that?”
Andrea flashed a sweet smile. “Eric, we’re siblings after all, and I’m friends with Dr. Irvine. If you ever need anything, just say the word. I’m happy to help you guys out.”
Eric gave her a sharp warning look. “Andrea, just take care of your own stuff. Don’t go meddling in things that aren’t your business. And…”
At the family party, Chloe and Andrea didn’t even bother to say hi to each other.
If they really were friends like Andrea claimed, that wouldn’t have happened.
Eric thought to himself, ‘Andrea is lying!
Eric paused for a moment and then said, “Unless it’s an emergency, don’t come to the hospital for no reason. You’re free to leave.”
Eric’s assistant opened the office door and escorted Andrea out.
Standing at the office door, Andrea shot it a frustrated look, refusing to give up so easily.
She’d thought Eric would be her ticket in. If she could just get on his good side, maybe she could finally carve out a spot for herself in the Jordan family.
But he didn’t even give her the time of day. Instead, he shut her down with a warning.
Andrea had genuinely tried to help Chloe get ahead, but Chloe just brushed her off with that cold, ambiguous attitude.
‘Seriously, what’s up with those two?’ Andrea wondered.
‘Did I totally misread the situation? Maybe they’re not even a couple?’
At noon, Eric ran into Chloe again at the hospital entrance.
Eric wanted to talk things out with her.
Chloe hesitated for a moment and then nodded.

She figured this was her chance to finally clear the air with Eric.

They went to a cafe shop across from the hospital. Eric spoke up first. “Chloe, I’m not the clingy type. I just don’t get why you’ve suddenly gone cold on me. Can you tell me what’s up?”
Chloe’s face grew serious.
She said, “Eric, I’ve really thought this over. Right now, I just want to focus on my career. I honestly don’t have the time or energy for any romantic drama.”
Eric still didn’t get it. “Look, I swear I won’t bug you at work. And if you feel like I’m crowding your personal space, I can stop dropping by so much.
“We can just take our time and get to know each other. I’ll wait for you, no matter how long it takes.”
Chloe looked him dead in the eye, all seriousness.
She said, “Eric, it’s not about time. I’m just not ready for any kind of relationship right now.”
She steeled herself and said, “Honestly, this is already stressing me out. If you keep pushing, I
swear I’ll quit.”
With that, Chloe stood up and walked away, leaving Eric sitting there, totally at a loss.
Eric had a knack for picking up on subtle emotions.
He could sense that Chloe wasn’t truly rejecting him.
But she’d started acting distant ever since that night at the family party.
He figured that something must’ve happened that night.
Eric couldn’t wait any longer. He went straight to Ian.
He wasn’t about to get kicked out of the game without even knowing why.
At 2 PM, inside the Hamilton Corp’s Executive Office, Mitchell knocked on the door and came in. “Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Jordan is here to see you.”
Ian closed the contract he was holding. “Let him in.”
Ian got up and walked over to the lounge area.
Seeing Eric walk in with a serious look on his face, Ian spoke up first. “Mr. Jordan, you seem to be in a hurry. Is something urgent going on?”

Eric sat down across from lan.
He got straight to the point. “Mr. Hamilton, did something happen with Chloe that night at the Jordan family party?”
Ian shook his head. “I spent the whole night with her, made sure she got home safe. Nothing went down.”
Ian’s suspicions were spot on.
Andrea had been taken in by the Jordan family, and that was the reason Chloe started distancing herself from Eric.
Eric shook his head. He didn’t buy lan’s words.
Ian said, “If you don’t trust me, why not go ask Chloe yourself?”
Eric switched gears and asked, “Mr. Hamilton, were you and Andrea ever involved?”
Ian stayed calm and raised an eyebrow. “So you came all the way here in such a rush just to ask me that?”
Eric realized he’d come off a bit abrupt.
But he had to figure out why Chloe was suddenly freezing him out.
Eric said, “You and Chloe were childhood sweethearts, and you almost got married. So tell me. Do you know if Chloe and Andrea are actually friends?”
Ian lowered his eyes, masking the emotions flickering beneath.
Apparently, Chloe hadn’t told Eric about the history between her and Andrea.
Ian deflected, saying, “That’s Chloe’s personal business. It’s not my place to say.”
Eric pretty much had it figured out.
He was really just here to confirm his suspicions. “Look, Mr. Hamilton, I know it’s kinda weird for me to ask, but Andrea is my cousin in name. Andrea and Chloe are actually friends or not, that’s a big deal for me.”
Ian lowered his eyes, falling silent for a moment.
With an unreadable look, he asked Eric, “As you said, Andrea and I dated. Chloe and I grew up together, and we almost got married. Do you really think that’s the kind of history where people can just be friends?”
Eric’s brows knitted together.

‘So they’re not friends. They’re romantic rivals,’ Eric thought to himself.
The truth was just like he’d suspected.
‘Is Chloe still not over lan? Is that why she still holds a grudge against Andrea?’ Eric wondered.

But Chloe had told Eric that she and Ian had grown up together as childhood friends, and she’d always treated Ian like a brother.
Eric felt his heart thrown into chaos.
Eric slowly got to his feet. “Thanks for answering my questions, Mr. Hamilton. I’ll let you get
back to work.”
‘So Andrea’s where all the trouble starts,’ Eric thought to himself.
Ian stayed seated on the couch. “Mr. Jordan, if Andrea and Chloe ever clash, whose side are you on?”
Eric stopped in his tracks and turned around.
With unwavering resolve, he looked Ian straight in the eye and said, “Chloe is the one I’m committed to. I love her, and no matter what, I’ll always have her back.”
Ian nodded, his gaze dropping as he fell silent.
Eric shot back, “Why do you care enough to ask me that?”
Ian slowly got to his feet.
He walked up to Eric, locking eyes with him.
