Obsidian Lanterns Fli
Chapter 10
Melanie’s POV
The two colleagues beside me quickly took two steps back, sneaking glances at Camille.
Camille saw me, too, but then coldly looked away.
She clearly didn’t think much of me. She walked into the elevator, surrounded by the managers.
The elevator door closed. My two colleagues finally sighed in relief. Then they started gossiping excitedly.
“That must have been Mr. Atkinson’s girlfriend! Oh my god, she’s super hot! Totally high class, confident, and gracious.”
“Yeah, you’re right!”
The two of them turned and quietly asked me, “Melanie, what do you think?”
I looked down and replied faintly, “She is.”
Camille was actually the illegitimate daughter of my father, Alpha Marvin.
Perhaps that wasn’t accurate enough.
When I was eight, my father insisted on rejecting and exiling my mother so Camille and her mother, Zara, wouldn’t suffer.
He quickly mated with Zara.
I was left with my grandmother, Monica, and my grandfather, Chad, along with my mentally unstable mother.
Over the years, Chad’s business struggled. Meanwhile, my father’s family business flourished.
I heard my father spent a fortune on Camille’s education, giving her the best of everything to make up for her difficult childhood.
Camille didn’t disappoint. Outsiders called her brilliant.
So, the once–illegitimate Camille was now a legitimate heiress.
I thought our paths would never cross after childhood, but fate seemed to favor her.
Archer and I were childhood friends. No matter how hard I tried, Archer never noticed me. But the moment Archer saw Camille,
he was completely captivated by her.
“Melanie, are you okay?” my two colleagues asked, concerned.
I snapped back to reality. “I’m fine.”
Archer and I were getting divorced soon. Whoever Archer chose was no longer my concern.
That day, I didn’t pay attention to Archer and Camille again.
I worked late, almost nine o’clock. As soon as I finished, my phone rang.
It was my friend, Gillian.
I answered and realized she was drunk. She asked me to pick her up from the restaurant.
I quickly finished the last of my files, grabbed my car keys, and left the company.
Twenty minutes later, I reached the restaurant. I was about to walk to the entrance when I saw a little girl emerge from the other side of the parking lot.
I froze, looking at the clear profile of her face. Trista?

Shouldn’t she be at school in London? What was she doing here…
Did she come back with Archer?
Even though my position didn’t allow me access to classified company documents, I knew Archer’s business expansion in the UK was still incomplete.
I thought Archer was only back temporarily. I never expected Trista to come back, too…
Since I saw Archer this morning, they had been back for at least a day.
But Trista hadn’t called me even once.
My grip tightened on my bag. I watched the little figure skipping ahead and quietly followed her.
As I reached a corner in the lobby, Camille and a few of Archer’s friends appeared at the end of the hallway.
I instantly turned and hid. Then I heard my daughter happily call out, “Camille!” She quickly ran and hugged Camille.
I sat down on a couch nearby with my back to them, hiding myself behind a potted plant and the back of the chair.
“Trista, are you back too?” Camille asked.
“Yes, because you came back! Dad and I missed you so much. Dad finished his work early and brought me back! And we made sure to come back the day before your birthday so we wouldn’t miss it!”
“This is the necklace Dad and I made together. Happy Birthday, Camille!”
“Wow, you and your dad made this yourselves? That must have taken a lot of effort and time! Trista, it’s amazing. I love it, thank
you!”
“I’m glad you like it!”
Trista hugged Camille, whining playfully. “I haven’t seen you in a week, Camille. I missed you so much. If I couldn’t call you every day, I wouldn’t have lasted in London…”
“I missed you too, Trista.”
Just then, footsteps approached.
