Chapter 103
Third Person’s POV
Evander followed his line of sight.
Melanie was bent over the console, adjusting data, her profile cool and composed.
He shrugged.
“How would I know?”
They weren’t even acquaintances.
A nearby staff member overheard them and immediately chimed in.
“You mean Miss Willis? She’s not with Swift Tech–she’s a technician sent over by Hilltop Tech to help debug the system.”
As if sensing their attention, Melanie turned her head.
Her eyes briefly met Evander’s and Simon’s.
She recognized them–the same appraising stares from the auction house that night.
She paused for only a second.
Then calmly looked away.
As if they were nothing more than background noise.
Simon couldn’t help but chuckle.
“She’s ignoring us.”
Evander, however, had already lost interest.
Just as he was about to speak-
A ripple in the air stirred near the doorway.
This time, it carried an entirely different presence.
A scent of sweet orange intertwined with white florals drifted in–soft, yet laced with a faint, almost imperceptible edge of aggression.
Camille stepped inside.
When she spotted them, her pace faltered slightly.
“Miss Haines.”
Evander’s demeanor shifted almost imperceptibly. The casual indifference he had shown Melanie vanished.
Camille inclined her head, her expression still cool and composed.
“Alpha Evander. Alpha Simon.”
Evander stepped forward, maintaining a courteous distance.
“Does Miss Haines also work at Swift Tech?”
“No.” Camille’s tone remained even. “I majored in algorithms. Recently, I wanted to further develop my skills, so I joined the project team to learn.”
Chapter 103
Evander had heard of her.
In fact, since returning to the capital, her name had surfaced repeatedly in upper–circle conversations.
Graduated at eighteen.
PhD from a top–tier academy.
Racing, esports, extreme sports–she excelled in nearly everything.
She was like a finely forged weapon.
Elegant. Precise. Brilliant.
His interest in her deepened far beyond what he had expected.
Unfortunately-
She belonged to another Alpha’s territory.
The realization instinctively made him rein in the reach of his aura.
“Miss Haines, you’re truly impressive.”
Camille gave a slight nod.
“Recognizing one’s own shortcomings is the first step toward improvement.”
At the same time, Cullen, another project lead from Swift Tech, approached them.
The group headed toward the technical area.
Elmer looked up, one brow lifting slightly when he saw them.
“Alpha Evander. Alpha Simon. Miss Haines.”
Melanie’s movements faltered almost imperceptibly at the mention of the surname “Haines.”
But she didn’t look up.
She continued confirming parameters with the engineer beside her.
Her aura remained steady, restrained–almost entirely unaffected by any Alpha pheromones.
After brief pleasantries with Elmer, Evander and Simon were escorted to the conference area across the room.
Camille stayed behind.
Her gaze lingered on Melanie for a moment.
Brief.
Like an appraisal… yet faintly dismissive.
Then she turned to Elmer.
“Alpha Elmer, did you just arrive?”
Elmer continued recording data, his tone neutral.
“About half an hour ago.”
Camille’s smile was faint.

“I arrived this morning, but went upstairs to rest for a while.”
The implication was unmistakable.
That floor belonged to Archer’s private domain.
Among wolf clans, it symbolized trust, permission—even a degree of shared territory.
Elmer’s pen paused.
His tone cooled noticeably.
“So Archer is here today as well?”
“No,” Camille replied. “He’s at headquarters.”
Which meant-
Even without the Alpha present, she could still move freely within the core of his territory.
Elmer let out a soft “I see.”
He didn’t pursue the subject further. Instead, he walked directly toward Melanie with his notebook, pointing out a set of data.
Melanie glanced at it and nodded.
The two resumed debugging the system.
Their movements were synchronized, efficient.
Camille watched quietly as the scene unfolded, the warmth in her expression gradually fading.
“Which module is malfunctioning? Would you mind discussing it?”
Elmer’s voice turned cool.
“I’m working. This isn’t a good time.”
At that moment-
Melanie approached, reciting a string of correction parameters in a calm, precise voice.
Camille’s gaze sharpened the instant Melanie stepped closer.
It was the instinctive appraisal of a she–wolf.
Melanie had no intention of responding.
But sensing that icy stare, she glanced sideways.
There was no hostility in her eyes.
Only a clear boundary.
After the brief exchange, she left with Elmer to continue processing the data.
Camille stood silently for several seconds.
Then she turned and returned to the conference room.
Evander noticed the subtle shift in her expression.
“That didn’t go well?”

Camille didn’t look up.
“No. I was merely consulting Alpha Elmer on a professional matter.”
Her tone was flawlessly composed.
Simon frowned thoughtfully.
“But that woman earlier… she seemed rather wary of you.”
Evander said nothing.
He only remembered the auction house that night.
And that fleeting moment just now.
That faint yet stubborn trace of a mate’s scent lingering on Melanie.
It wasn’t solely her own.
It was the fading mark left by an Alpha.
Outside the conference room, the technical area glowed beneath harsh white lighting. Data scrolled across screens line by line.
Melanie stood at the console, her expression focused.
She didn’t turn around.
Nor did she acknowledge the lingering fluctuations of scent drifting from the conference room.
As if her entire world had narrowed to nothing but code and numbers.
Evander leaned back in his chair, long fingers idly spinning a pen. His gaze drifted through the glass wall, settling on the slender figure working in the distance.
He spoke suddenly.
“That woman. Do you know her?”
