Chapter 111
Third Person’s POV
At the track, Archer and Camille naturally became the center of gravity.
Staff members scurried over, bowing slightly–an instinctive display of submission to a high–ranking Alpha. “Alpha Archer, Ms. Haines, everything is ready.”
The gesture was unmistakable; they were already treating Camille like the future lady of the house.
Archer gave a slight nod, his eyes fixed on the track ahead. “Begin.”
On command, the test vehicle tore down the raceway.
Standing before the monitors, the crowd could clearly track the car’s high–speed performance.
After the professional driver successfully completed a lap, Dominic turned to Archer and Camille, asking if they’d like to experience it firsthand.
Archer agreed.
He and Camille slid into the same car. On the monitors, they could be seen talking in low voices. The way Archer tilted his head toward her radiated a rare tenderness–a protective Alpha aura that was so thick it was impossible to ignore, even through a
screen.
Melanie watched the monitor with a blank face, her expression totally neutral.
Next to her, Elmer looked like he’d just smelled something rotten and pointedly turned his head away.
Edric, wanting to give it a go himself, was about to grab Dwight when Gloria cut him off, stepping toward Dwight.
She was intentionally projecting her pheromones, trying to hook his attention. “Alpha Dwight, should we maybe-”
“You guys go ahead,” Dwight interrupted her, his eyes cold and locked on the track. He didn’t spare her so much as a glance. ” I’m not that interested.”
Gloria froze, looking like she’d been slapped by an invisible wave of ice.
Dominic then looked toward the two people standing on the fringes. “Mr. Boyd, Ms. Willis, would you like to take a turn?”
In reality, those two knew more about the car’s guts than anyone else there.
Elmer had originally been excited, but now, smelling the lingering scent of Archer and Camille’s intimacy in the air, he felt like he’d lost his appetite.
“Pass,” Elmer grunted.
Melanie, however, just smiled. She leaned in and whispered a few technical specs about the engine’s high–frequency performance into his ear.
With her sharp werewolf vision, she had caught details in the data flickers that the average person would have missed.
“You sure you don’t want to try it?” she teased, raising an eyebrow.
Elmer stared at her, whispering in shock, “How do you know those numbers?”
Melanie rubbed her nose and gave a mischievous wink. “I accidentally caught a glimpse when they were moving the files over”
Elmer’s mood finally cleared. He grabbed her hand and headed toward the car. “Fine. But you’re helping ine reverse–engineer this later.”

The test wrapped up half an hour later.
Archer stepped out of the car and straightened his coat, his powerful, dominant patchouli scent drifting through the wind.
He looked at the group. “Good work today. Dinner’s on me?”
Evander was the first to jump in. “Sounds great.”
Elmer, however, kept his face stone–cold. “Sorry, we’re busy. You guys enjoy. We’ve got things to do.”
Archer’s brow furrowed ever so slightly at the rejection.
He turned to Dominic, his voice becoming polite yet professionally distant. “Make sure someone sees Mr. Boyd and Ms. Willis
out.”
Ms. Willis… Elmer let out a silent, mocking laugh.
That formal, almost–stranger title was the final sign that Archer had officially moved Melanie out of his “private territory.”
He grabbed Melanie’s hand and led her away without looking back.
Simon watched them go and whispered to Evander, “Is it just me, or does Elmer really hate Alpha Archer?”
Evander’s eyes darkened. He’d noticed that Alpha–on–Alpha friction the last time they met.
He used to think Elmer was just a prickly guy, but now it was clear–that hostility was personal.
In the car, Elmer was still fuming.
He turned to Melanie. “Who was that girl in the suit following Camille around? She looked like she wanted to jump across the room and bite you.”
“Gloria, Camille’s cousin.”
“First Camille, now the whole family?” Elmer scoffed. “The way he’s spoiling her, I wouldn’t be surprised if Swift Tech changed its name to Haines in a few weeks.”
Melanie leaned back in the passenger seat, her face peaceful–almost serene. “With how much he loves her, he’d probably hand her the keys to the whole empire. Letting her family in is nothing.”
Elmer took a deep breath, realizing they needed to change the subject.
That night, Melanie stayed up late helping Elmer reconstruct the engine data. \
L.A. was seeing a rare snowfall; tiny white flecks hit the windshield, carrying a bone–deep chill.
When she finally got home, she grabbed her clothes to head for the shower when her phone rang.
It was Archer.
Melanie glanced at the name–the one that used to make her heart race–and felt absolutely nothing.
She ignored it and stepped into the bathroom.
When she came out, there were two missed calls.
Since she hadn’t picked up, Archer had sent a text, “Trista has a parent–teacher conference tomorrow. Don’t forget.”
Melanie dried her hair with one hand and typed back with the other, “I’m busy tomorrow.”
