The Breaking Point of Mate: Giving Up on My Alpha novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Melanie’s POV

Trista was actually really disciplined about that.

I said goodnight to her and walked out of the room, and I heard the click of the lock.

I knew Trista wasn’t trying to keep anyone else outshe was keeping me out. She was probably plotting something with Camille.

What exactly they talked about, I had no idea, and I honestly couldn’t be bothered to care. I turned and walked back to my room.

Moira likes having me over for dinner, so over the years, I’ve left a lot of my things here.

I found a set of pajamas and headed to the bathroom to shower.

After my shower, I sat down on the side of the bed I usually slept on. Since it was still early, I picked up the book I’d left in my bag and started reading quietly.

I didn’t know how long passed, but my eyes started to sting. I closed the book and checked the time. It was already 11:30 p.m.,

and Archer still wasn’t back.

Honestly, even after Archer thought I had tricked him into mating, he wasn’t exactly warm, but our relationship was better than it had been before.

But then, Camille showed up a little while later.

After Archer fell for Camille, he started keeping his distance from me again. Since then, he’s barely mated with me.

So I didn’t know if Archer wasn’t coming back tonight, or if he was just busy with something.

Lost in thought, I subconsciously left the bedroom and walked downstairs.

Then, a voice came from not far away, Everyone’s asleep. Not coming back to the room this lateis it because Melanie’s here and you just don’t want to go back?

It was Skye’s voice.

I looked toward the sound and saw Skye and Archer standing there. My steps immediately froze.

Because of the distance and because he had his back to the light, I couldn’t make out the expression on Archer’s face.

Skye continued, “Honestly, I get it. I’ve met Camille a few times. I hear she’s only 25 and already has her doctorate. She’s gorgeous and she’s got a great personality. Her brilliance and charisma are truly unmatched by most females. She definitely has what it takes to attract you. But her background isn’t exactly clean, Archer. Have you really thought this through? You–

Archer cut her off. I know exactly the kind of woman I like.

But-Skye was about to say more, then suddenly stopped. Fine, fine. You’re so protective of her you can’t even hear a single bad word. I’ll shut up, okay?

I listened, clenching my hands so hard the night air felt like it was cutting my cheeks.

I gave a bitter little laugh. I’d lost all interest in hearing more, so I turned and walked away.

As soon as I left, I faintly heard Skye open her mouth again. Oh, right, I heard Melante handed in her resignation. Is she leaving the company?

Archer’s voice came through: Rufus said she made a mistake. I told him to fire her following company procedure.

Skye’s clear, mocking laughter drifted over. Oh, so that’s the story! The way she spoke, it sounded like she was quitting on her

own. I should have knownHow could she ever bring herself to leave? She got fired, huh? Haha!

Archer didn’t respond, as if the matter had nothing to do with him.

Frost immediately bristled, a sharp snarl echoing in my mind. How dare he? He knows you quit! Has he forgotten you’re his mate, the Luna of the Razor Pack?

My fingers squeezed the fabric of my skirt, nails digging into my palm.

Frost’s anger burned my nerves like fire, but I knew confronting him wouldn’t earn me an ounce of support.

I walked up to the second floor, and as I was heading back to my room, I nearly bumped into Erasmus, who was coming

downstairs.

We both jumped. When we realized what happened, Erasmus apologized first.

He even asked with concern, Luna Melanie, are you okay?

Erasmus was the only one in the Pack, besides Moira, who’d been consistently nice to me.

I shook my head and smiled. I’m fine.

Erasmus was pretty young when Archer and I mated, so he didn’t know the whole story.

After all these years, he always told me I was beautiful and gentle, and that I never fought with Alpha Archer, calling me a perfect

Luna

He even said he’d cherish his own mate if she were like me.

So even after he grew up and slowly figured out some of the past issues, he remained very respectful towards me.

Erasmus scratched his head and said genuinely, Luna Melanie, you’re such a good person. Alpha Archer will see it eventually. Don’t be too sad.

I paused, not sure how to explain that Archer and I were getting divorced. (1

Frost let out a low, slightly wounded huff in my head.

I just smiled and said, Mhm, thank you.
