The Breaking Point of Mate: Giving Up on My Alpha novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Third Person’s POV

Archer usually didn’t pay much attention to Melanie, nor did he care for her gentle care, but he noticed her coldness now.

The contrast to her past demeanor was too stark.

He was surprised but just assumed she was sulking. He paid no mind to the anomaly.

He didn’t even bother to ask why she was upset. He just said coldly, Trista’s enrollment is complete. You’ll take her to school tomorrow morning.

Melanie replied, Got it.

Archer said nothing else and turned to the walkin closet to get clothes for a shower.

This was his standard attitude towards her.

Melanie looked at his back, thinking about the divorce. She wanted to ask when they could go to court.

But she knew Archer had a busy schedule. With his personality, if he were ready, he would contact her without prompting.

After all, he wanted the divorce sooner than she did.

Because of this, she hadn’t pressed him once in the past halfmonth.

Just then, Archer’s phone rang.

Melanie watched him answer. The single word Hellocarried a tone completely different from how he spoke to herit was

distinctly gentle.

She almost immediately guessed the caller was Camille.

Sure enough, after whatever Camille said, Archer released his grip on the closet door and said, I’ll be right there.

He then quickly walked out of the room without looking back.

Melanie watched him leave and didn’t call out to him.

A moment later, she heard the sound of a car startingArcher was gone,

She closed her eyes, calmly turned off the small bedside lamp, and went to sleep.

The next morning, Melanie woke up shortly after six, since she needed to take Trista to school.

She was alone in the room; Archer had not returned after leaving last night.

Melanie no longer cared.

She checked the time calmly. Knowing, Trista wasn’t up yet, she went to knock on her daughter’s door.

After a while, Trista finally opened the door.

Seeing Melanie, Trista pursed her lips and said grumpily, Mom, why are you knocking so loud? You’re giving me a headache.

Last night, she told Camille she couldn’t take her to school. Although Camille said, It’s what your mom should do,her tone was clearly disappointed.

Trista felt so guilty about it she had several nightmares.

Now, being woken up by Melanie, she was in an even worse mood.

Melanie looked at Trista’s tantrum and didn’t get angry. She just said calmly, It’s a long drive to school. If you don’t get up now, you’ll be late.

Since Camille couldn’t take her, Trista had lost all enthusiasm for school.

She groaned without saying anything, but she knew she couldn’t be stubborn about school.

She lay on the bed, sulking. I know.

After lying there for a while, she didn’t move. She looked up at Melanie. Mom, squeeze the toothpaste for me.

Melanie responded, Mhm.

After Melanie walked into the bathroom, Trista picked up her phone and sent Camille a good morning message. Then, she got up and went into the bathroom, picking up the toothbrush with the toothpaste already squeezed onto it by Melanie and started brushing her teeth.

As Trista was about to finish brushing, Melanie soaked a towel in hot water, wrung it dry, and handed it to her to wipe her face.

Then, she opened the wardrobe and asked, Which outfit do you want to wear?

Trista glanced inside. Mom, I can change myself. You can go out first.

Melanie closed the wardrobe door. Okay.

After Melanie left, Trista pulled out the clothes she had specially brought from home yesterday.

It was a supercool camouflage outfit that Camille had helped her pick.

She was going to wear this to cheer on Camille tonight.

Thinking about the race tonight and seeing the cool and stylish Camille again made her happy.

After getting dressed, Trista checked her phone and immediately frowned.

Usually, when she texted Camille, Camille would reply quickly. But she had already finished getting ready and still hadn’t received a reply.

Did Camille get mad?

Worried, she quickly texted Camille.

Camille, what’s wrong? Are you angry?

Camille, you know I don’t want Mom to take me to school. I prefer you to be with me. Please don’t be mad, okay?

After a while, Camille still hadn’t replied.

Melanie came in after organizing her things. Trista? Time to go down for breakfast.

Trista, anxious about not hearing back, got impatient with Melanie’s urging. I know! Mom, stop nagging! It’s annoying, you know that?

She picked up her backpack angrily and marched downstairs.

Melanie didn’t say anything but noticed Trista was wearing unfamiliar clothes.

Melanie usually helped choose Trista’s outfitsalways checking with her, of course, and always matching her preferences.
